    2. Even next of kin cannot benefit anything unless he/she is also the beneficiary of the account.

    3. Next of kin does not mean the person will get anything and with a court approved legal representative, the next of kin will be largely irrelevant.

    4. All these silly attention seeking twitter birds..if its true, tag the person nah...mschetwwww

Meanwhile, you think say na joke to get money out of a dead person's account? Where's your letter of administration from the court? Yes, where a person died intestate( that's without a will) you still need to go to the probate section of he judiciary to sort things and it is a very tedious process which involves the death certificate amongst other things. Someone writing next of kin on a document doesn't suffice just like that especially where there's a tussle.

So this story is a big fat lie. Cannot happen....

Except it was your employment form..yes, the government will pay entitlement to the person stated on your employment form as NOK. That one no de get long story... But bank? That's a big big deal

  8. That's a fat lie, their relationship is not legal, they can never pay the gf. That's a Void Contract that has no binding force/agreement between them

It's actually possible. Maybe they went to the bank together. And as lovebirds he could have done it to please her not knowing the implications.

But I find it hard to believe he didn't update his account. Or even opened a new one.

This just goes to show no one knows tomorrow.

Poor wife. Maybe the girlfriend will be kind to share.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Not sure this is possible, but if i were the ex girlfriend i would give the 6m to his widow. Regardless of the circumstances in which we broke up. There's more to life than money and 6m...

  52. It is not possible. The administration of estate of a deceased person is a long and cumbersome process which is regulated by the law. It is not determined by who you fill as next of kin. The persons entitled under the relevant law can sue such a girl friend. It is not possible at all the post is a farce.

Is it that easy? How will the girlfriend get the letter of administration or even the death certificate?
      The writer should try harder.

  54. I would assume that his current Marital statues would terminate any prior contract or commitment. By law, his wife should be the beneficiary...

  55. It's important to update next of kin o, my late BIL used his younger brother's name as he started working in the early 90's, and never remembered to change after marriage, he had an issue at his place of work which landed them in court, he won the case though and was paid 100mil for the 3 years the issue spanded and he was innocent. Note that he was not in terms wit the bro who was his next of kin but somehow they reconciled. Before jack Robinson he was ill and died. Union bank of Nigeria had the mind to pay this brother, instead of asking for the wife who is now left with 2 kids to cater for and she is not working.
Ok bro, pay school fees na, no o
Pay lesson fee and give snacks money, no o.
Lol... now my sis no need all this let her start her life all over, no bro has decided to visit all the diabolical people in town and God keeps exposing him, because he is a defender to the defenceless.
I have seen the tunder that will strike him doing press up in redeem camp.
Moral of the story : this update is real, do it so your loved ones won't be stranded in the case of your demise.

  60. My own money will go to the government when I die.
Not my children or any family member.
The government have me free health care, social security, every protection in life that I ever need and the best nationality and passport to travel and enjoy the world.
    My government will inherit me!!!

    So go get yours!!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. This is really funny.lol. Who the hell does that? #girlfriend??

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh come on Guys!! This just isn't possible. The only way this could happen was if he drew up a will with his ex gf as the sole beneficiary, and never updated his will before his demise. However, as a banker I can tell you that the NOK stated on the account means less than nothing...the person cannot even be privy to your account balance unless he/she is an active signatory to the account. Once an account holder dies, the account is frozen until someone provides a Letter of Administration (which the bank will still independently confirm from the court). And to get a LoA, you need his death certificate, newspaper publication, in fact I'm tired of typing. Documents which only the wife or elder chilo or sibling or some such would have. Morale of the story; that guy up there made it up.
    You're welcome.
