Labour Room Drama 120

Wow...Lucky woman!

Hello Stella,

How are you doing? Am an avid reader of your blog. I thought to send in my own LRD. My journey of child bearing started with an ectopic pregnancy six months into my marriage. I nearly lost my life but I thank God for saving me in his grace and mercy. I lost a Fallopian tube in that encounter.

So you can imagine my apprehension with regards the odds that were standing against me ( hubby and I were not living together at the time). God once again showed me his mercy and I took in about 6 months later.

Omo, I was sick from day one. Vomited every day up to the extent that I would vomit blood a times. The doctor I was seeing in the private hospital asked hubby and I to abstain from sex for 4 months and she placed me on progesterone injections for that period.

I suffered, my sweat was smelling of the injection, my saliva, wee wee, everything used to irritate me. Even the smell of my poo poo used to make me vomit. I continued seeing my doctor dutifully.

Fast forward to 8 and a half months later, I went for an independent scan and I was informed that my placenta has reached maturity and I should see my doctor immediately. I saw my doc who repeated the scan and asked me to come in later for inducement. He then asked if I would like to start the process immediately but I remembered the bush I had under and told him I would come back in the evening.

When we got home, after giving the contents of my bag a double check, I opened up and my hubby dutifully shaved my bush as he had been doing since I started showing then we left for the hospital.

I was admitted and the first tablet was inserted at midnight. I laid down and was being checked by the nurses and after about two hours I was still normal so the doctor inserted another tablet. I laid down again, still wasn't feeling anything. Then another patient in my room who had 3 children told me 'madam, tell your hubby to help you get hot water, drink it and it will help kick start the labour'. That was how I started drinking hot water like it was tea o. True to her advice, I fell into labor about thirty minutes later. No more laying down o, I started pacing up n down, the pain wasn't funny at all.

At about 6 am, I was taken to the labour ward. Unfortunately for me, the nurses were changing shifts so the night nurse did not want to attend to me as she will had to finish before leaving for the day. The morning nurse just came to show my hubby how to rub my back and took off to jist.

The contractions were coming hard and fast, I went to the toilet to vomit and then felt like pooing, so I sat on the toilet seat and started pushing, a nurse came in at that point and when I told her I felt like pushing, she promptly told me madam, you will feel like that but don't push.

I was like that for a few more minutes then I told my hubby, if you don't want to see your baby in this toilet, you better go and get someone to attend to me, he left and after some shouting, the matron and morning nurse followed him to where I was. I was asked to lie down for a check and the nurse shouted she is full o! I could have slapped her then but...

My hubby carried me to the delivery room and immediately I opened my legs the nurse shouted see baby's head, it was then she started calling for the doctor, she had not even prepared the equipment to be used, she was just running helter skelter. The doctor came and asked me to push. After 3 pushes, at 8.35 am my son arrived and all the pain vanished.

The placenta followed immediately after. The nurse just kept repeating 'this woman is strong o', apparently she did not take my matter serious because I wasn't shouting in the course of the labour.

All the anger I felt towards the nurse vanished as soon as I saw my baby and all I felt from then onward was gratitude to God who did not allow anything to go wrong during the whole process. I asked my hubby to count his fingers and toes because I was concerned about all the drugs I had to take during his pregnancy.

There is my LRD for my first born who will be 6 yrs old next year. He has a sister and her own delivery drama is a story for another day.

Thank you Stella for sharing and to the BV family for reading this long post!

Regards.

*LOL @asked him to count fingers and toenails..I did that as well.

    1. How much is Reddington again? Come on! How many people can afford that. To me it doesn't really matter where you have your baby as far as you have a safe delivery. Will Reddington give you special baby certificate? Some people even give birth successfully at home.
