Meeting Point 30

There is always a meeting point!

Finally I get to send in my story, and though you've obviously heard it a million times, I'll still love to add that you Stella, are doing a marvellous job and the BVs are a perfect icing on the cake.

Now to my story, I was in my final year in school and we had a two weeks break, thought of heading to Lagos to spend it with my parents when my older cousin who was based in the same state I schooled suggested I spend it with her instead, after all it was going to be a short break. I agreed and she mentioned our attending a wedding of one of her colleagues the next weekend.

On the said day, we went and during offering we had to go forward to the front of the church to place our offerings. Whilst working past, naturally I saw the couple with the bride's maid and best man by their sides. For me it was just a passing glance. After mass was pictures and since I didn't know the couple personally, I didn't join in any of the pics, though I stood apart my gaze kept meeting with that of the best man who just seemed to be fixated on me. We had another engagement that same day so we left immediately after the church service and never joined in the reception.

I happened to have been in a relationship as at this time, but it was one of those relationships where we had more fights than peace. And though both my ex and I happened to be very stubborn people, I always ended up being the one to call him and make a truce. On one of our usual unnecessary fights, I realized I was wasting my time with him. I remember staying up one night and telling God it was over with my ex as I wasn't up for our cat and dog fights anymore.

And I told God I wasn't going into any relationship anymore as I didn't have energy for drama, so the next man to show interest in me should be my husband. His intention from day one of meeting me should be marriage. To me, it was just a simple prayer. So I called my ex the next day and told him it was over, he probably thought it was a joke, but after he didn't hear from me for about three weeks he got the message.

Now two months after the said wedding I attended, I was awake one night reading when my phone rang, it was a foreign number, I wondered who or where from, I answered. It was my aunt's colleague, the groom. Shocked, I asked why he was calling all the way from "the abroad" lol He told me he went visiting his brother and his brother has been searching for me and wanted to talk to me. "Who's your brother?" The best man!

While I was trying to understand what was going on the brother collected the phone and asked me if I was married, I said no, and he was like, good cos you're my wife. I laughed.

To cut the long story short, he saw me that wedding day when I walked past, and he knew I was his. He came looking for me during reception but I was long gone. He tried describing me to everyone but no one seemed to know whom he was looking for. So he told his brother that as their parents were late, and as he has attended his wedding, nothing was bringing him to Nigeria again Cos he met his wife and lost her so there's no reason to return.

He remembered a friend, seeing him sound so serious, tell him, that if I was truly his we'll meet again. He said he laughed at the possibility as we were based in different countries. He returned to his base and less than two months after, his brother went visiting him during his honeymoon trip and went along with the wedding video, while watching he saw me and started screaming ''that's her''. His brother and friends knew instantly cos he hadn't stopped talking about me. Luckily the brother recognized me, got my number from my aunt and called.

After that night, we spoke every day and got to know each other more. He had all the qualities I wanted in my man and of course I remembered my prayer to God and it all seemed too good to be true. He came home some months after and met my parents, my dad told him if he was ready to wait till I was done with law school then there'd be no problem.

Today we've been married for seven years with two beautiful kids and till this very day, though living together, he still calls me every single day when we are apart. Even with regular challenges, we always find a way not to extend it to the next day.

Thanks for this opportunity Stella, and to the BVs, thanks for making this blog worthwhile.

*You both look so good together and your kids are so so cute.
To think no one thought of the wedding video before then...

  10. I have been reading this meeting point and one thing I have observed is that God definitely has a man for each woman and you don't have to struggle to get that which is yours but as you ask from God .He will arrange it in his own way , He is the greatest match maker and ultimate planner. It's a waste of time sticking to a man all in the name of I have a boo when you definitely know it's not working or he is treating you as trash .
May we all locate our missing rib.

  13. Awwww beautiful story.I remember being my cousin's wife's maid of honour and my cousin's cute friend his best man.His fiancee was all over him and piercing my skin with her angry eyeballs as if I was going to make any move...Lol it was really funny then because she entertained my cousin's wife and i with her body language. Heard that got married but today they are divorced now I wonder to what end. I feel bad for chekeleke(that's our nickname for her) but life must go on.
