Nigerian Govt Adpats New Strategy- Become A Whistleblower And Earn Money..

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a whistleblowing policy to check fraud in both public and private sectors.
Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun disclosed this to State House reporters after the FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

She said the policy, devised by her ministry, is to encourage anyone with information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacts negatively on Nigerians and government to report it.

She said the policy was aimed at increasing exposure of financial or financial related crimes; supporting the fight against financial crimes and corruption; improving level of public confidence in public entities; enhancing transparency and accountability in the management of public funds; improving Nigeria’s Open Government Ranking and Ease of Doing Business Indicators; and recovering public funds that can be deployed to finance Nigeria’s infrastructure deficit.

According to her, information that can be submitted include: mismanagement or misappropriation of public funds and assets (e.g. properties and vehicles); financial malpractice or fraud; collecting/ soliciting bribes; corruption; diversion of revenues; fraudulent and unapproved payments; splitting of contracts; procurement fraud (kickbacks and over-invoicing etc.)

She said a whistle-blower is any person who voluntarily discloses information in good faith about a possible misconduct or violation that has occurred, is ongoing, or is about to occur.

The minister, who noted that there was a secure online portal where information could be submitted, said: "If you have already submitted your information, you can also check the status of your report on the portal."

Noting that the policy does not apply to personal matters concerning private contracts or agreements, she said whistleblowers could submit their information through the online portal by e-mail or by phone.

On whether a whistleblower is entitled to a financial reward, she responded: "It depends. If there is a voluntary return of stolen or concealed public funds or assets on the account of the information provided, the whistleblower may be entitled to anywhere between 2.5% (minimum) and 5.0% (maximum) of the total amount recovered.

"You must have provided the government with information it does not already have and could not otherwise obtain from any other publicly available source to the Government."
Asked if there is protection from false or malicious claims, she said: "Yes. A first level review will always be carried out to determine credibility and sufficiency of information received. If you report false or misleading information, it will be referred to the enforcement agents for investigation and possible prosecution."

Daily trust

Nigerians are not even loyal so this whistleblowing will be very successful...I hope there will be protection for whistleblowers oh.

  35. It is with tears in my heart and even eyes when I read the article as this "whistle blowing" cost me something that I am yet to get over on for the past one and a half years, by June 8 it would be exactly 2 years
I worked in a bank for close to 7yrs and in 2014 someone meant to be my back up had been stealing from the atm before I got to the branch and atm as its the policy it is not a lone person affair atleast 2 or 3 as the case maybe
Fine if I goofed and gave the guy my keys which others have also done before I got there, he still did not go there alone
On this very day I caught him, told my boss and a trap was set for him and was caught
It was an efcc thing and I was the only one not detained
We did reconciliation for a period he joined the branch and discovered 60m was lost to his name 40 before me and 20 my time
They got properties worth 55m from him and after 6month suspension with half pay, the bank dismissed just me of all involved apart from the culprit that I was negligent.
I tried doing an appeal they still say they are standing on my negligence and this time around claiming over 90m loss which means the bank is now over exxagerating
I still run a monthly efcc visit since then till even up till January next year which of course I am not sure that's when they may end the case
You know what dismissal means, can't get a good job, even a menial one is hard to come by, no entitlements paid which also means no money to start up a business and I am a single mother of 4 boys
Virtually beg to keep my family going but I know some day will get over it.
I am a good christian to my own strength that would always try not to engage in anything termed not good but with my experience would I want to try this a second time? Of course I would rather I keep quiet
That capital punishment was just to much for a whistle blower they would have handled it a different way thank take the only source of feeding my family
    It is well dear
    Enjoy you Christmas.

  37. Anon 21:11 I feel you. May the Lord be your shield and your stronghold. I cried while reading your story.

If you are Catholic, I would recommend you do a Novena to the Infant Jesus (Infant Jesus of Prague). It is a very powerful prayer and is especially good if said during Advent. In 2002, I lived in a one-bedroom flat with my husband and 3 Children. I prayed this Novena feverently for nine days and can confidently tell you in all honesty that we managed to buy a 7-bedroom house right afterwards. I was not working and my husband did not have any savings. The down payment (deposit) came from family as a surprise and the bank issued a mortgage for the rest.

This Christmas, now a single parent, again I found myself without work. I began the Novena to the Infant Jesus of Prague on December 1st and miraculously was offered a job on the 9th day. Monday 12th of December 2016 was my first day at my new job earning almost double my last salary. I always follow up the Novena with another nine days of thanksgiving Novena.

    Merry Christmas.

  40. Let me start by blowing this whistle. Buhari is a thief, liar and creating famine in this country while he is eating and drinking and celebrating with the loot recovered. If you oppose him he sends EFCC to lock you up and sieze your passport.
