Govt Declares Holiday For Women During Menstruation

Zambia has made a provision in the country’s labour law that allows female workers to take off one day a month known as Mother’s Day during their menstruation period, even though it applies to all women, whether or not they have children.

The legal definition is not precise – women can take the day when they want and do not have to provide any medical justification, leading some to question the provision.

“I think it’s a good law because women go through a lot when they are on their menses [periods],” says Ndekela Mazimba, who works in public relations in an interview with BBC.

Ms Mazimba is neither married nor does she have children but she takes her Mother’s Day every month because of her grueling period pains.

“You might find that on the first day of your menses, you’ll have stomach cramps – really bad stomach cramps. You can take whatever painkillers but end up in bed the whole day.

“And sometimes, you find that someone is irritable before her menses start, but as they progress, it gets better. So, in my case, it’s just the first day to help when the symptoms are really bad.”

Women in Zambia do not need to make prior arrangements to be absent from work, but can simply call in on the day to say they are taking Mother’s Day.

An employer who denies female employees this entitlement can be prosecuted.

  3. Honestly, God should have given us something else instead of menstruation. I dread the days ahead when its time. I become moody, irritable and generally unhappy. To think I am already feeling the signs and I wonder how I would cope with 2 things at the same time. A woman's life is way too complicated

  25. How to alleviate/reduce/ relieve menstrual cramps
** try to distract yourself maybe by reading sdk, watching telemundo, etc
*Improve Your Diet to Alleviate Period Cramps...consume less fat and eat more of veggies
*Pop a Safe Painkiller. ...like ibuprofen
*Drink Teas to Calm Menstrual Cramps ...like chamomile tea, raspberry, ginger tea and other herbal teas
& cut down your coffee or caffeine intake
    *avoid alcoholic drinks this period
    *Take vitaminD and Vitamin B1
*Take calcium and magnesium supplements throughout the month, as these nutrients work in concert to aid muscle relaxation
*Massage your lower tummy With Essential Oils for Pain Relief. ...
*Curl Up With a Heating Pad to Ease Period Cramps. ...A heating pad or hot water bottle is a simple, tried and true way to reduce muscle spasms.
Even drinking hot water helps too
    ** Boost Endorphins Your Way.
**Exercise releases endorphins, which are natural pain relievers. Endorphins also help counteract the prostaglandins in your body that cause contractions and pain. Because of this, physical activity may help relieve cramps.

**Also, keep in mind that excessively painful menstruation can be a sign of a more serious underlying medical issue, such as endometriosis, a uterine infection, or a problem with the uterine anatomy. Don’t forget to consult your primary care provider to make sure these possibilities are addressed, especially if you just can’t seem to get your pain under control.
@ Crazyhornywife orgasms do help with cramps because of endomorphins released just like an exercise .
    It is well ...e-hugs
    One love ♡ ♥ ♡

  34. Wow! This is such a great move for Zambia and also a plus for us who advocate for effective menstrual hygiene management. Zambian and Uganda have been on top of their game at #BreakingBarriers around menstruation thereby making #Menstruationmatters important. I hope our government emulate this policy.

  38. I dunno what happened to my painful menses but I'm glad it's gone. I used to have unbearable two days during my period that used to last about 5-6 days. Now it lasts just 3-4 days and it's very very manageable compared to how it used to be. I'm not complaining Sha. Maybe it had to do with me switching from pads to tampons. I dunno the correlation but it was around that time it changed

    ReplyDelete

    1. I doubt it the tampons.Could be changes in hormones. It happened to me.Mine changed from 5days to 3days n doesn't hurt.i just get serious mood swings and breasts heaviness during that period. And it's as regular as fuck.

  41. it can be so bad. I remember when i was in school having a class. I was seated in front seat and I was twisting and turning on my seat. The male teacher kept asking if i was alright..Another time, I was all over the bed, twisting all over the bed like someone in labor, went to the toilet and hoping it was diarhea so i can pass feaces out and feel relieve. For where? I remember even telling God to take my life bcos of the pain (God forbid o!) It can be really horrible.. I couldnt even eat Mr biggs my mum got for me. It was when I took buscopan that I calmed down small. Afterwards my mum said i had to eat as I have taken drugs, I was even scared to eat so i dont trigger it again. Mentrual pain ehn. Another time, I spent hours googling how to reduce menstrual pain after taking the drug and i was still feeling the pain.. Now adays, I dont feel as much pain like i used to anyways. I think diet helps with MP.
