NASS To Strip FG Of Powers To Control Resources

Is this possible?

In a bid to strengthen the nation’s economy, the National Assembly in the ongoing constitution amendment is proposing to remove mineral resources from the exclusive list to the concurrent list to enable state governors develop all the mineral resources in their various states.

This is part of the amendment to be contained in the new constitution expected to be out by March this year for onward transmission to the president for his assent.

    1. It is very possible. In a normal federal situation, states ought to control their resources, develop their area, take charge of local security, pay allowances without having to wait for federal allocation and only remit certain percentage to the Government at the Center... This is what true federalism entail.

  3. It is Stella, that's what true Federalism is about. It will bring about serious and fast paced development as each state will have to fend for themselves to an extent.

  8. This is a good idea, at least the people will be able to hold their governors responsible. But I doubt Buhari will assent. The man loves grabbing resources and control.

    1. I love you already for this response. If they want it to work well the should give local government full autonomy. Let every leader from the grassroot to federal level account for their stewardship

  9. All this nonsense talk or epistle is all a ruse!

The National Assembly cannot amend the constitution and just send to the President for Assent. The provisions has to be debated and passed at 2/3 of the 36 State House of Assemblies, BEFORE the joint session of the National Assembly will sit and then a 2/3 majority can then amend the constitution, for the President to sign.

The National Assembly CANNOT amend our constitution alone!

  10. So now that there are rumors of oil discovery in the Northern States, they suddenly want to cut off after using Niger Delta oil for the whole country abi? Dem try gan

  11. If this is true, then that means we are about practising true federalism.States have not been tapping their natural resources because the central govt controls almost everything. If this works, it would lead to healthy competition among states.
