- The Federal government has now commenced payment of N5,000 monthly stipends it promised poor Nigerians. Report says nine states have been mapped out for coverage in the first batch of the payment and already, many of the beneficiaries started receiving their first payments by Friday last week.



- The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, on Monday warned Ndigbo to avoid former President , Olusegun Obasanjo, alleging that he created the problem the Igbos are currently facing in the country. According to MASSOB, the Igbo, especially politicians, should avoid Obasanjo, whom rather complicate their problems than resolve them.


- The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the federal government to implement the N52,000 minimum wage it has proposed and tackle unemployment affecting young Nigerians in 2017, saying it yet to see the job creation the APC government promised during their campaign. This is contained in a New Year message by its president, Ayuba Wabba.


- Veteran actress, Toyin Majekodunmi, also known as Iya Kike, has passed on. The actress, died on Monday, but the cause of her death remains unknown. The news of her death was shared by actress and movie producer, Bimbo Success in the social media.

- Senator Dino Melaye has said that nobody can underrate him or his position in the All Progressives Congress, APC. Dino was speaking at Ayetoro-Gbede, his country home, weekend, during the distribution of empowerment materials worth over N200 million to members of his constituency.



- At least six persons lost their lives in Mushin area of Lagos on New Year Day as they were reportedly electrocuted after some youths threw firecrackers at a transformer, causing an electric spark. The incident happened at 12:30 a.m. The victims were part of a Muslim congregation participating in a crossover vigil organised by Temidayo Central Mosque on Ogunmokun Street.

-Three civil society organizations in the Niger Delta, Monday, disagreed with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on his recent statement that the unity of the country was not negotiable, saying his unconditional support for the unity and indivisibility of a defective federal structure that favours only a section of the country was questionable. The groups include the Niger Delta Security Watch Organization of Nigeria, NDSWON, Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, and Foundation for Human Rights and Anti- Corruption Crusade, FHRACC.



- The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has confirmed the death of three persons in a motor accident on Malumfashi-Funtua road in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State. The accident occurred at Karfi village on Monday when a Volkswagen bus with registration number KTU 203 AA with 15 passengers on board skidded off the road into a bush.



- Leaders of the APC in Kogi States have vowed to reduce the influence of Bola Tinubu in the State, and the entire North Central region. A statement signed by leaders of the party from Kogi West also advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to accept James Faleke as the late Ocholi’s replacement in his cabinet, warning that such will cause crisis in the state.
