- A group, under the aegis of the Coalition for Good Governance and Anti-Corruption has called on the National Assembly to immediately impeach Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose. The group claimed Fayose does not have respect for the office he is occupying.



- Minister of Interior, retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, has warned Nigerians against tagging the ongoing crisis between herdsmen and farmers in Southern Kaduna as religious.
The minister urged Nigerians not to make comments capable of heightening the crises, but join hands with government to end the perennial problem.



- The General Evangelist of Christ Apostolic (CAC) Worldwide, Prophet S. K. Abiara, has told Nigerians to ignore prophets and prophesies of doom about the country’s fortunes in 2017.
Abiara, in his New Year message, affirmed that God himself would revive the economy of the nation, but stated that what was imperative for all Nigerians was to be hardworking.



- There are reports that the Benchmark Brent sweet crude LCOc1 has jumped more than two per cent to a high of 58.37 dollars, up 1.55 dollars a barrel and its highest since July 2015.
Also, latest reports say the U.S. light crude oil CLc1 hit an 18-month high of 55.24 dollars up 1.52 dollars a barre.


-Nigerian Army has henceforth banned officers and soldiers on duty from uploading pictures and videos of their operation on social media.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Division Mechanized Army, Major-General Adeniyi Oyebade, who spoke on behalf of Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, warned that any officer found violating the law would be penalized.


- The Naira yesterday stabilised at N490 to a dollar at the parallel market in spite of speculations that it would depreciate to N500 to a dollar by the end of 2016.
The Pound Sterling and the Euro also closed at N585 and N505 respectively.


-Indications have emerged that the Federal Government is planning to ban the importation of refined petroleum products by 2018.

Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, while addressing a meeting of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, explained that Nigeria has continued to relegate its revenue base, by relying on just oil products.



- A coalition of civil society groups, under the aegis of Citizens Action to Take Back Nigeria, CATBAN, has exonerated Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir Lawal, of charges of gross misconduct and abuse of the nation’s procurement processes.

It said in order to establish sufficient grounds for picketing the SGF’s office, it had embarked on a fact-finding mission to the North-east to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of claims made by the Sen. Shehu Sani-led adhoc Committee on the Humanitarian Situation in the North East.



-  Erstwhile Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark has bemoaned the neglect and sufferings of the Ijaw ethnic nationality, saying that it is worse than almajiris up North. The elder statesman said the people of the region would no longer fold their arms and watch strangers control their resources.



- Chief Martins Azubuike, the former Speaker, Abia House of Assembly, has claimed that his refusal to share money to his colleagues led to his ouster from power.
Azubuike said he was impeached because of not consenting to the sharing of funds meant for projects.


- Governor Rauf Aregbesola-led government of Osun has spent a total of N14.2bn to clear all salary arrears in the state.
He said the amount was paid out by his government in less than two weeks before the end of December 2016.

  13. You can imagine. Celebrating 490 naira to a dollar. God biko deliver this country. People are suffering. Things are tight. Unemployment is unquantifiable. Why and where did we all go wrong. Companies will still downsize . God please have mercy on us. USA cannot accommodate all of us. Trump is now the president to add salt to injury.

  16. And anyone who thinks the war in KD is not religious is living in a fool's Paradise.
    How can a 24 hour curfew be imposed and the obedient villagers be attacked by the Fulani's? Is the curfew for a particular set of people? Or did the Fulani's fly into the villages?
