Lagos State Okays Death Penalty For Kidnappers

Kidnappers arrested and convicted in Lagos State face life imprisonment or death sentence HENCEFORTH as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has signed into law the anti-kidnapping bill recently passed by the State House of Assembly.

He pledged to ensure the full implementation of the law, in order to eradicate kidnapping in the state.

A press statement made available to DAILY SUN by Habib Aruna, Chief Press Secretary, said the Prohibition of the Act of Kidnapping Law imposes life imprisonment on kidnapping for ransom, while perpetrators, whose victim dies in the course of kidnap, will get the maximum punishment of death sentence.

Ambode said, while signing the bill into law, that the spate of kidnapping in the state had got to a level that required decisive action from government. He said the enactment of the law against kidnapping was one of such actions meant to send serious message to kidnappers.

Governor Ambode said aside the enactment of the law, the state government was also putting in place appropriate measures, particularly, in the schools and other vulnerable targets to prevent kidnapping and other security breaches.

  6. Well.. with all these spontaneous death penalty approvals, we have no moral right to criticise other countries when they sentence nigerians to death for pre-determined offences.

  8. I hope it is death by electrocution? So that they can feel the pain the families of those they kidnap feel. Im still waiting for that of child molesters and rapists.

  10. They once did same in Owerri and the kidnapping stopped. Very scary time as they would come to your home as armed robbers, and leave with your child.

  11. Infact same penalty should be dished out to those monsters who commits DVs too. Yes until men know they have no right to raise their hands on a woman, Nigeria will be a better place.
