Man Whose Wife Is Asking For Divorce Tells Court “I Caught My Wife In Her Shop Cutting A Man’s Nails,”

“I caught my wife in her shop cutting a man’s nails,’’ 45-year-old applicant, Wahabi Sodiq, told an Igando Customary Court in a Lagos suburb on Thursday.

Sodiq alleged while testifying in a divorce case filed by his wife, Kudirat, 44, a public bar operator, seeking dissolution of their 24-year-old marriage over threat to her life.

“I believe my wife is having extra marital affairs. I got to her shop and met her with a man who placed his legs on her table while my wife was cutting his nails.
“Immediately the man saw me, he quickly removed his legs from her table but I did not say nothing and I left immediately.

“Since that day I became bitter because I felt cheated; I have given her Holy Bible and Quoran several times to swear that she was not dating the man but she refused,” he told the court.

On the allegation that he beats the woman, he denied, saying:”I only beat my wife once since we got married and i did that because she assaulted me.
“Anytime my wife goes to her shop, she will not come home for days; she prefer sleeping in her shop.

“She also loves going to parties without my consent and whenever she returns and I queried her she will turn it to a fight.
The husband, however, pleaded with the court not to grant his wife’s request for a dissolution of their marriage, saying “I still love her.’’
Kudirat, responding to the husbands submission, said:“My husband is always threatening to kill me and suffocate me to death with a pillow.
“I am always afraid to sleep at home and because of the fear, I packed some of my belongings back to my parent’s house.”

The petitioner also accused her husband of planning to sell the house she laboured to build.
“My husband called me on phone and threatened to sell my house if I refused to come back to our matrimonial home.”
Kudirat alleged that her husband was in the habit of chasing away her customers, accusing her of infidelity.

The mother of four, who said she had no emotion or love for him anymore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage.
The court’s President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, ordered both parties to come along with three members of their families for a possible resolution and reunion at the next hearing date. (NAN)

*Is it in a Judge's place to settle a warring couple?Just wondering!

Hmmmm this case is funny and somehow, madam do I might be wrong but your ways are not pure as a married man,and yes your husband might be over reacting or being insecure but you should try and make him trust you by not giving him doubts or excuses to question your loyalty....if her mind is no longer in the marriage then the judge should dissolve the marriage before one kills another abeg

  10. "I have given her Holy Bible and Quoran several times..." All hail the sophisticated tribe. They are Christians and Muslims at the same time, they tell you "yes" and "no" at the same time. Their loyalty is to CAN and Sokoto all at the same time. They're found in the Northern and Southern parts of the country. When they meet you, they refuse to tell you their religion. They first watch you to know your faith first, then tilt towards what you tell them. Yet, they're the face of Christianity in Nigeria! They are always sitting on the fence. They tell you it's diplomacy when you get concerned about their lack of stability. All hail them. Our most sophisticated tribe.

If you see where Yoruba girls are bragging about their alaye boyfriend... They prefer them to the few responsible ones among them.

If you see where their men are beating their women you will know that the origin of domestic violence is from Yoruba land.

  16. Despite all his allegation of infidelity he doesn't want the dissolution of the marriage, she is definitely the bread winner. The funny thing is trying to exercise control over his benefactor. If she was truly cheating, a lazy man should not expect his woman to be faithful. He should let her go in peace.

  22. Stells, I remember leaving a comment on one of the posts on dissolution of marriage, that courts, generally, are reluctant to grant petitions for dissolution of marriage. By practice, they usually explore the route of reconciliation where the respondent( the party who didn't file for divorce) shows the slightest sign of not wanting the marriage dissolved. Another factor for consideration is the reason(s) given for the petition to dissolve the marriage. If the court is of the opinion that the petitioner's life is not in any immediate danger, the court will try to reconcile both parties.

This is just one final attempt to see if the marriage can be salvaged. Remember it's a customary court, which means it's only a traditional marriage b‎inding the couple. The court will hear from family members from both families and see if reconciliation is possible. If the petitioner still insists that she wants the marriage dissolved because she's not longer in love with her husband, the court has no choice than to grant her petition and dissolve the marriage.

Dissolution of a marriage under the Act (marriage conducted at the Registry or a Church licensed to issue marriage certificates) is a lot more difficult and the process is way lengthier. However, even where the petitioner succeeds in providing the ground(s) for divorce, the court grants a "decree nisi". This is a 6 month waiting period. This is premised on the fact that the courts want to be sure there's zero chance at reconciliation before granting the "decree absolute", which is the end of the marriage. Some parties reconcile during the 6 month waiting period when "divorce nisi" is in place. When that happens the divorce petition will be struck out by the court or withdraw by the petitioner, and the marriage continues.

  23. This reminds me of a hilarious divorce case, it happened quite a while ago. The wife filed for a dissolution of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences and desertion. Apparently the husband ran off for about 2 years with some pretty young thing. By the time he came to his senses and rushed back "home", wifey was done! She already had a boyfriend and was no longer interested in the marriage. I'm not sure what was in play but hubby crawled back like a love sick puppy, his love for her seemed intensified, much more than before. Unfortunately, wifey was getting her "pipes" serviced so she couldn't be bothered.

Day 1 of hearing, it was like watching a low budget Indian movie! Lol! Jeezzz! Talk about melodramatic performance! The judge looked positively bewildered by hubby's theatrics! This dude rushed to where his wife was standing as soon as the court clerk called out the case. He went on his knees, grabbed her legs and started bawling like a little girl who lost her doll! The matter had to be adjourned because the court couldn't come to order. Anyway, to cut a long story short, wifey managed to get a "decree nisi" after about 18 months ( yeah, I know, I shamelessly stalked the case).

Apparently, as time went by, wifey started having feelings for her hubby. I guess he was able to rekindle the passion they once shared, but wifey refused to withdraw the divorce petition, not sure why. A week to when the court would have granted the "decree absolute" which terminates the marriage, the sly fox of a hubby managed to seduce his wife and invited her over to a hotel. Of course, with the natural progression of events, they had mind-altering and mind-blowing sex that wifey kept going back for more, 3 days straight. He begged her to withdraw the petition but she still refused, I guess she wanted the best of both worlds. Perhaps she wanted to pay hubby back for the pain and suffering he caused her.‎

By day 4, she ignored hubby like she didn't know him from a can of paint which only drove him wilder with passion. At this point, he was really behaving like he was seriously pu**y-whipped (excuse my French). His lawyer was wondering what the hell had taken over his client because hubby told his lawyer that he would actually kill himself if he doesn't get wifey back and he was so restless. It was during one of his wailing sessions that he let the cat out of the bag! The minute his lawyer heard that he has been having sex with his wife, I'm sure he must have grinned like the cat who swallowed the Cannery but his client had no idea why his lawyer suddenly seemed to enjoy watching him squirm in misery.

On the final day, when a "decree absolute" was to be ordered. The hubby's lawyer told the court that he has new information he received recently which could change the entire trial by showing cause why a "decree absolute" should not be granted. He told the court that the petitioner and the respondent had had steamy sex sessions for the 1st 3 days of the week! The silence which enveloped the court was deafening! The Judge smiled broadly and looked towards the direction of wifey. I'm not sure who was more surprised, her lawyer or her dutiful boyfriend who decided to accompany her to court. Her lawyer spun around to look at her...alas! her facial expression confirmed the lawyer's worst fears. After a few hopeless attempts by her lawyer, to defend the actions of wife, the court dismissed the petition because, according to the court, if the wife could tolerate sex with her estranged husband after all he put her through and knowing that a "decree absolute" would be granted in a matter of days, the "irreconcilable differences" has become reconcilable so wifey should go settle with her husband. That was the end of the matter, the court refused to grant her petition. I'm not sure what happened later but I wouldn't be surprised if they got back together.
