Tubaba Chickens Out,Of Nation Wide Protest.

Nigerian hip-hop artist Innocent Idibia, better known as TuFace, has abandoned his much-hyped plan to lead a nationwide protest against the Nigerian government. Mr. Idibia had said in several statements that his protest was to draw attention to the widespread suffering and deepening poverty in Nigeria.

The musical artist, whose song, “African Queen,” earned him wide recognition in Africa and beyond, canceled his planned protest late Saturday evening, claiming that his decision was based on security fears that hoodlums might hijack the planned protest.

The musician’s statement echoed the sentiment of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni and another release from the Nigerian Police headquarters. Mr. Owoseni had drawn criticism a few days ago when he threatened to arrest Mr. Idibia, asserting that police authorities had received intelligence that some hoodlums would seize the protest as an opportunity to unleash mayhem. After much criticism, the police soft-pedaled and offered to provide security personnel to ensure that the protests did not lead to chaos or criminality.

Mr. Idibia had been under tremendous pressure since announcing his plans for a nationwide protest in conjunction with a civil rights and democracy advocacy group called Enough is Enough Nigeria (EiE).

Government officials had accused Mr. Idibia of acting on behalf of corrupt politicians facing prosecution or the prospect of prosecution by the Muhammadu Buhari administration. The musician’s critics cited the car gifts he received from former Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom during Mr. Idibia’s wedding

Other critics noted that the reported decision of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State to back the protests and possibly attend, cast doubt on the neutrality and the credibility of the musician’s initiative.

When Saharareporters contacted Yemi Adamolekun of EiE Nigeria, she restated that the protests would go ahead in different cities across Nigeria, especially Lagos and Abuja, regardless of TuFace Idibia's decision to pull out.

  1. So I see people taking him to the cleaners that he disappointed them. It was tuface against the government, a fight I don't think he could have won. They warned him to stop the protest and he thought about it and had a rethink, which was normal. Nnamdi kanu still deh prison. Tubaba children full ground. The people weh deh shout "Istandwithtubaba" go disappear if army/police show face. Na #freetubaba" we go deh see online. None of them would want to take his place in prison or even go to his house and stay there till his release. There wont be any solidarity. There is nothing wrong in the peaceful protest he planned, I stood with him but not to participate in the protest physically. We know the era of one man mopo is gone. Fela is dead, Oshiomole is no more the president of nlc, Gani fawehimi is gone, there is no one else. The occupy Nigeria was a collaboration of different organisations and top political individuals, that was well strategized and planned. Tubaba made a point, Nigerians stood with him. They should stop the insults. Bravo tubaba. God bless Nigeria.

    2. If he chickened out,Pls can you lead in the protest. What we should be talking about is how democracy can no longer be practiced, we have gone backwards. Soo sad cos we can no longer hold a protest albeit a peaceful one. I get so angry at Jonathan cos in my opinion if he wasn't ready to fight for that seat he should have gotten a worthy person to do so even if hausa. However you can't take it away from GEJ,he is a hero of democracy in Nigeria. It's unfortunate but we are in trouble!

They finally got to the poor guy, they scared him (probably with his children)

The guy is disappointed, I mean, the mofos criticizing him can't afford 2 "flat" meals a day (e.g Blackface A.K.A Weedhead), people who should embrace the march the most

Tuface IS NOT A BROKE NIGGA, I'm sure he can afford the basics for his family and even throw in a holiday or two yearly, he got tired of the whole thing, police harassment and the shouts of his name upandan and felt "make una carry una wahala and go"!

Hunger neva mama Nigerians, when hunger tear una belle, una go come out naked without prompt!

You are fighting for them and they are fighting for the politicians you are fighting against for them. I supported tuface and I'm glad he withdrew.

    16. Tuface did the right thing. How many peaceful protests have we had going south? Most online warriors are only giving support online but wont come out that day. Why should he kill himself for the same people that would publicly celebrate a convicted politician that has contributed to the same said suffering he was going to protest. Most of you calling him names should stop the double standard. If we are still the same people that can celebrate polithiefcians then we cant achieve the desired result.

    19. Wisdom is paramount to every decision we take. Sometimes we make mistakes in a split of seconds that will take very dare consequences.
Tubaba, knowingly or unknowingly partook in the corruption that has kept this country in the state we are in now. A sitting governor who is owing didgent low income staff salary buys prado jeeps, paid for your wedding guests flight ticket to Dubai (more like a chartered flight), is that not public funds? Was it not the money meant to do things to better the lives of the people of AkwaIbom state? I heard Tubaba rejected the offer in the beginning but was later persuaded to accept. You cannot receive a gift from the devil(proceeds of corruption) at night and then come out in the day to fight for the results of the same corruption. There is room for repentance if it is genuine.
I know and have no doubts that Tubaba wanted the best for Nigerians when he decided to Join this protest, but, most of the opposition party members that has once greased his palms now wants to join the protest. They would have hijacked that protest and unleashed mayhem that will make an indelible prints in the history of Nigeria. This is politics, politicians are very deady. They will do anything to rubbish the opponent. Tubaba now cannot say no to them joining the protest. Why because he has been committed unknowingly. The PDP opposition has nothing to lose, they also know that peaceful protest will not do a bad print so they will hijack that protest and turn it into something else. They will come with their thugs, thieves and other area boys will also use that opportunity for their own selfish reasons. If anything happens and gets beyond control, Tuface will be arrested and made to face the consequences. I bet he never knew he should get police clearance, paramedics and other laww enforcement in place for that huge march. It is quite a pity that he is being bashed but I perfectly understand his decision. I also saw a tweet where the organisation told Fayose that they don't want him or any politician in the protest, even if Fayose is notthere he can send his boys to make sure there is problem. I just wish our leaders could do the right thing and alleviate this suffering. My only happiness is that the rich are also suffering so, it's not just the poor as usual. It is affecting everyone.

    2. And the suffering continues....

Let me break down what's going to happen IF THINGS DON'T GO BACK TO NORMAL.

The high rate of crime that you see now is NOTHING, it will be raised to power infinity.

The poor who are still grumbling underneath now would slowly start to rise from sitting under the table grumbling for crumbs and start to KILL (they won't ask) anyone that seems better(Government- affiliated or not) than them.
There would be so much hike, that even a 1000 naira will not get you a reasonable meal.

      Need I go on?

I think the mistake we made is affiliating this protest with tubaba...Tubaba can afford his bills (at least for now), he didn't know what he was getting into.

It is we, the nameless, faceless ones that actually suffer. And since we have let them ride us and trample us so far....they will have a field day now.

Quote me; The worst is yet to come.

    4. As much as I love the idea of the protest I did not welcome the fact that 2baba was the one leading the protest reason been that the whole protest had got some political undertone to it

Fayose wanted to join the protest really. The clown that is responsible for alot of sufferings in his state. A man of the people indeed. His been owing civil servants for months in Ekiti. Federal govt gave him bail out funds still he did not pay Civil Servants. His side funding money with Lanre Aboderin in the name of installing street lights daily. That's even small compared to others he does with those boys that went to 3 years prison on his behalf.Fayose is a murderer. He kills people daily for his political ambition. Do not be blinded by his vocal personality. His a beast for a man. His come back his only to steal and deceive gullible people. The fool sold one of his house for 10 million when he wanted to come back into politics. His son is his PA. You need to see his house in Magodo and that one is the smallest. You people should be hailing him oh. Go Fayose the man of the people. This is just the beginning. Una never see nothing. Every politician that we have today are only interested in pocket affairs. If the youths cannot stand up by themselves and not involve politicians and so called celebrities we have not seen anything.

      Thiefs everywhere.

God is not into silly business of punishing people for exercising their fundamental right.
If the Yoruba's voted for Buhari, why didn't you vote for GEJ!
You sat in the comfort of your house and expected GEJ to win by luck,Coincidence or outright magic?
That is not possible now. I didn't vote for Buhari but it is high time Nigerians take responsibility for the sham we are in.
In time past we refuse to vote, stating that 'they already know the winner'. Now we are castigating those who voted.
      Please! Stop this charade.
2019 is closer than we think.
If Buhari fails to perform(which is so obvious by the way).
      Vote him out.
Come out and vote and don't sit in your house expecting a miracle and then blaming the yorubas for disappointing you.
The yorubas are not the causer of your headache. If you can't find the cause, then take paracetamol.

To the topic at hand. I knew tuface won't pull through. Nigerians are funny set of people, they do not love their country but just looking for who to blame and tuface is not configured to take that blame.
Respect to Nnamdi Kalu of IPOB, I do not believe in his ideas or support his cause but he has proven to be a man of his word and his suppose love for Biafra is genuine. If only we can all love Nigeria same way.

Someone should please tell Vice President Osinbajo to drop the Pastoral act, if you cannot love your citizens like Jesus love the church, please resign.
I am not against your fight against corruption but it is obvious yourself and your master have no blueprint to run this country.
Trump made campaign promises and in few days in Office, he has started implementing them regardless of what people are saying, Biko take a leaf from Trump and do the needful.

Those who have been trying to give Buhari a bad name so they can hang him even before he ascended the throne of power, those wishing him ill, the corrupt elements are the ones behind the protest. This is the way of Nigerian politics, give a dog a bad name and hang him.. The motive and intention of those leading the protest isn't sincere, peharps, I would have joined in..

Nigeria's problems is not really a leadership problem ATM, it's a problem from you and I. We are corrupt ourselves, we stand for nothing, we no get bearing.
Let's tryna think objectively and stop allowing ourselves to be easily manipulated into a protest by Akpabio and Fayose, then we'll begin to make progress in Nigeria. This protest isn't gonna change any damn thing! The only thing that'll change after the protest is the little pleasure you'll get in the thought that you did something. Nothing else. Me I will continue to stand with Baba, praying for him and supporting him, and if the hardship persists after 3 years into his government or he didn't perform well at the end of his tenure, I vote him out like I did Jonathan.

  29. When this protest was affiliated to tuface, I started to wonder, is this about Tuface? Or about the masses who ain't celebrities/popular?

I am not shocked he did this, we are a generation of cowards, born into so much impunity that the wrong is put on a scale and weighed before we decide if it's wrong or not.

It's not bad if people need someone to look up to as leader of a protest, but attaching so much to the person is the beginning of a fall....that's what happened to the Ogoni people when Saro-Wiwa was killed.

Frankly, I think we have not suffered enough, we haven't. We are just tasting it now.

I just hope that by the time we see what true suffering is, our reaction will still be non-violent.

  35. Chickens out isnt the right word.
It became apparent that some group of people were bent on hijacking that protest.

I was all for it. I loved the idea and i was happy we had another Fela Kuti in our midst.
Through his songs,Tubaba has not failed to 'preach' about good governance and better living.

You see,Nigerians are very funny human beings... if someone loses his or her life in that protest,i tell you Tubaba will never drink water and keep his cup down ever again.

They will say he is a ritualist sent to get blood, yes thats how most reason.
Some will even alledge he wants to run for Presidency come 2019 and used Nigerians for his selfish ambition.

The Nigerian Police promised him protection.. same people that will sabotage the entire process? I laugh.

The people behind this will even go ahead to kill innocent law abiding protesters just to frustrate this movement and call Tubaba a murderer.

Most people cussing him out are cowards like me,ofcourse they will stay in the confines of their houses and cheer him up.
I might be a coward, but I'm definetely not a coward and an enemy of prgress at the same time. That planned protest and what the publicity would have achieved might not change anything, but let them be aware that we know! We are tired! We need something, anything to change real fast!

  40. Popular Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, alias "2Face" is not a coward for cancelling the protest march against bad governance he wanted to lead on Monday, February 6, 2017, in Lagos.
He just realized that Nigerian masses are not worth the sacrifice.
Because, if anything happens to him on Monday, life goes on.

He saw Nigerians from the south-south jubilating to welcome James Ibori, a convicted felon and wanted by the EFCC.
The same Ibori that former President Goodluck Jonathan hounded by all means until Ibori escaped overseas.

He saw Ekiti people hailing Governor Fayose as he was cruising his posh convertible car on the street.

He just saw that the Nigerian masses are hypocrites not worth sacrificing for.

They are easily fooled by corrupt politicians and fraudusters.

They waste millions of naira daily on useless calls and chats.
They waste millions of naira gambling on "Baba Ijebu", Nairabet and other bets.
They wasted billions of naira on MMM.
Then they blame President Muhammadu Buhari and his only 18 months old adminstration for all their failures and frustrations of the past 16 years.

2baba has seen the gullibility and stupidity of majority of Nigerian poor masses.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wahwuu! So he could actually chicken out at the last min. if you really want to fight for the good cause you'll ve to damn all consequences and face it. This protest could be the wake up call and revolution that we need in Naija. Buh Tuface allowed himself to be bullied and he succumbed because like most Nigerians, he isn't selfless. If the activists of the olden days like, Martin Luther King jnr allowed themselves to be bullied or thought of only themselves or their safety, would we ve known of them today? The truth is if you want to be a human right activist you should understand that you'll definitely be bullied, pressurised, threatened and attacked by the government . Its your decision to stand your ground that makes you great. After raising the hopes of people so he's just gona dash them away like that? Hmmm. It is well sha.

    2. EFCC was going to come after him after the protest. He would have been roped in for encouraging corruption of/by a Public official for accepting gifts and money sourced from public funds. Tuface is a weak Nigga far as I am concerned. When the Govt. threatens you, it is because they have facts against you. His hand is not clean and he most certainly did not think far enough to know there is more to a protest than walking down a street with people behind you. A political protest against the Govt. requires alot of planning and strategy.
Sorry Tubaba because you just took an L on this one.

  49. Press Statement (share and circulate) So called Cancellation of
#IStandWithNigeria rally is not true: The National Protest was never about 2Face, we are marching on against bad governance Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds that the National-Protest-March slated for Monday, February 6, 2017 has been canceled by one Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Face. This is not true and not the consensus of Nigerians, majority of fellow planners and not a true reflection of the sincere plan to organize this rally in public interest. We wish to inform Nigerians and the world at large that this protest against bad governance and hunger was never about 2Face or any individual for that matter. Let it be known that Mr. Idibia merely keyed into an ongoing public discourse over this protest to take a lead. It was never his singular idea but the concerns of the suffering masses. Therefore, we wish to inform concerned Nigerians and the international community that there is a national and public consensus for this protest to hold as scheduled in all venues. There are hundreds of groups and thousands of Nigerians who are leading this initiative and we will not back down. This is the time to separate real activists from emergency activists. Emergency activists seek mortality with the fear of man, while Revolutionists and real activists seek immortality with the fear of God. Consequently, in the exact opposite of what our brother, 2Face said; “Dear Nigerians, due to stomach insecurity and bad governance consideration, we hereby announce the continuation of the march as scheduled – on Monday, February 6, 2017. #IStandWithNigeria is a #NigerianProject Signed Ariyo-Dare Atoye Co-Convener, Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution (CDNDC)

I'm still surprised because no the same people do "occupy naija" for one whole week, taking pictures, artists were even performing and all but now, hoodlum wants to hijack this one cos it's about the government?? I thought the protest isn't even about APC?? Thought it was about the GOVERNMENT AS A WHOLE?? those that don't pay salary, those that use bail out funds for something else?? I'm not understanding....

TUface you shouldn't have started this in the first place because I know you knew that it won't go down well with some people.... You gave us hope, now you dashed it!!! I'm not blaming you oooo but all those artist that wrote epistle ending with #IStandWithTuFace, what should they do now??

  62. Well said Fyn Ijebu Chic, eeboh's keep blaming Yoruba for their own mistakes and irresponsibility. They didn't come out to vote for whom they want and they blame Yorubas for it.
I mean how stupid is that.
They start their senseless Biafra war against Nigeria killing Hausa's and because Yorubas made a decision for themselves to remain in Nigeria and live with other tribes peacefully they turned around and said Yorubas are traitors and betrayed them. Wetin concern Yoruba with eeboh.
It just seems they cannot do anything or make any decisions for themselves without wanting backup and support from Yorubas.
Yoruba's make decisions without backup and support from anybody but themselves, these eebohs should learn to do the same for themselves and stop looking for other tribes to go down with them based on their nonsense decisions.
Yorubas don't need eebohs for anything because they have a mind of their own so eebohs should stop looking to Yorubas to help them with their agenda. That is why they are very bitter. They should do their own thing and leave Yorubas out of it.
