Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, retired Colonel Hameed Ali arrived the National Assembly on Thursday
wearing a white kaftan and not Customs uniform as ordered by the Senate.

Ali had been summoned by the Senate for questioning on the controversial vehicle duty now susupended by Customs.

On arrival, Ali met with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

He was accompanied to Ekweremadu’s office by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang.

After about five minutes in Ekweremadu’s office, he left for Enang’s office.

  5. How does wearing the Customs uniform translate to him doing a good job or not? I think we often focus on the inconsequential. He was appointed to do a job so National Assembly should be more concerned about him meeting his target or not and whether he is breaking any law in his bid to meet his target. I believe the National Assembly is just trying to sensationalize (if that word no dey abeg I don form am) the issue and crucify the man before the public.

The man gaan sef no try. If you want to enforce a policy first sensitize people for about 6 months and make it apply to does who bring in cars after the sensitization period. Nuff said anyways.

    2. I think his Portfolio Title should be changed from Comptroller General to Sole Administrator, with that he can Administer a Paramilitary Outfit such as Customs,as the EFCC has a chairman who is also a Police Officer, but he doesn't have to wear a Police uniform to work, the term Comptroller can only be used for a Custom's Officer who rose through the ranks and not for a designated Political Appointee

  21. STUBBORN is understatement. This man has a rebellious spirit. Same Nigeria customs that foots his bill, he feels too big to wear their uniform. Even if he used to be a millitary man, that is now in the past. Well it is Buhari who put an Ex millitary person as custom's boss i blame for all thos brouhaha.

The man is doing well as he is repositioning customs .The issue of him wearing uniform has nothing to do with any law . Rather the Senate wants to flex muscle as it is going in Magu's case.

  28. I do not blame him at all. He is a retired army officer not a customs officer, he was never in the customs service in the first place and he never served there. He was only planted there by the President, why do they want him to wear the uniform of a service he is not part of.

  31. It is an Offence not to dress in the Uniform as stipulated by the Customs and Excise Duties Regulation 1963. Those who say the Uniform doesnt make him a better worker or whatever with regards to his duties, you all are stupid. A service that has uniform, whether you like it or not, you must wear your uniform in it or resign. Imagine Police IG or COAS not wearing Uniform because they where appointed by the president.

    1. Thank you!!! He needs to be taken down asap! There are other military personnels that were appointed as CG before him yet they went to the office with their uniforms. I am certain this issue came up and the president was aware of the consequence of his actions yet he appointed him(both having military background). What can he tell his officers who look up to the CG and wear mufti to work as well? Punish them? Laws are laid down rules, with consequences when broken. That man needs to step aside asap and let his deputy take over while he chooses between conforming or resignation!
Nigerians should not allow one man get away with absurdity! This is in itself corruption, just to enrich his own ego!
