Owerri Girls Secondary Sch Alumni Organise One Day Dental Clinic -Photos

The Owerri Girls Secondary School Alumni Association Homebranch organised on Friday 17th March 2017, a one day Dental Clinic in conjunction with Galaxy Dental Centre Owerri and Department of Dental Surgery, Imo Sate University Teaching Hospital Orlu; to mark the World Oral Health Day recognised annually by the United Nations every 20th March.

A lecture was delivered by Dr. Ejike Chikwendu of Galaxy Dental on "leaving the mouth smart" after which patients were divided into 6 clinics for dental checks, with ladies of the Alumni Association volunteering as dental hygienists and assistants. The Volunteer Doctors called on the Nigerian Government to implement the Dental Health Bill speedily and expand the scope of dental services covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme so that more Nigerians can have access to qualitative dental care.

The Association disbursed toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and tongue scrappers to 300 students of Owerri Girls Secondary School and Government College Owerri. At the end of the exercise the Alumni President- Barr Ngozi Idih expressed appreciation to the Planning Committee headed by Dr. Nina Nwulu and Mrs Chizomam Ihediwa for ensuring smooth partnership with Mazgele Group UK, Rokana Industries and many others to provide this pro bono service to teenagers who may never have met a qualified dentist before now.

The alumni association urges Nigerians to give back to this alma mater to supplement government efforts in the education sector.
