Wife of the President Invested As Consumer Ambassador of Nigeria

Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari has charged Nigerians to understand their rights as consumers in order to stand up to market abuses which undermine those rights.

She said the rights of the consumer must be protected and those on the wrong side of the law be made to understand that their rights come to an end where the rights of the consumer begins.

Mrs. Buhari, who was represented by the wife of the Governor of Nasarawa state, Mrs. Mairo Tanko Almakura, made the charge during her investiture as Consumer Ambassador of Nigeria by Consumer Protection Council. The event was organized to mark the World Consumer Rights Day 2017. On Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Abuja.

She thanked the Management of Consumer Protection Council for investing her, saying that the campaign for consumer rights is a noble cause and assured the Commission of her support and commitment towards driving the campaign.

Earlier, the Director General of the Consumer Protection Council, Barrister Dupe Atoki, said digital technology, though beneficial, has exposed consumers to digital and online threats such as cybercrime, data theft and invasion of privacy. She stated that this year’s theme: Building a Digital World Consumers can Trust, intends to call attention to these consumer issues.

Barrister Atoki showered encomiums on Her Excellency, urging her to “bring your passion to bear on the rights of the consumers” stating that through her, it was certain the message of consumer rights will reach all Nigerian women, who, as the custodians of the family budget, make the purchase decisions.
Others who spoke at the occasion include the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and the Minister of Science and Technology, who in their goodwill messages highlighted the important role of Consumer Protection Council in protecting the rights of the consumer.

The investiture was witnessed by associates of Mrs. Buhari and other local and international well-wishers

  3. So she no longer belongs in the kitchen and other room? waawwwu.... late Miriam Babangida must be laughing wherever she is. On how president wife will want to be in the kitchen when she was screaming that women should come out of that space.

That said, we don't know our rights as consumers in Nigeria. Like, truly many of us don't know. And I also didn't know until I lived abroad, so can't blame anyone. Chai! We no get consumer rights enforcement at all at all. And I think some sensitization should go on, so that people will know when they're being cheated. By public and private business owners. And the truth is when those rights are enforced, that's when businesses will improve. Because competitive advantage will be built from new businesses that know how to satisfy customers better. Then old businesses will take note and start re-attracting their customers. in developed countries, customer-centricity and related strategies are major way of making sure business remains stable. Once you falter, customer act like you never met. There's really nothing new to sell apart from yourself.

That said, Where's that supermarket SDK spokesperson who was thereating me on here because I complained? Those are the online threats they mentioned. Once a customer or consumer talks, they want to go online and bully you into silence. 'I will shame you, I will disgrace you, I will release CCTV video on instablog'. I'm sure they eventually went and spoke to a lawyer who gave them a brain. The idiot doesn't even know that's an infringement on my consumer right and is punishable by the law; as long as I didn't steal, or vandalize your property, or obstruct business from going on as usual. Me I'm still waiting for that video, cos I need to make some cool cash. Who has time for internet wars? Last last we go settle out of court. Collect all me and my family money wey we don spend for donkey years 😂😂

    Have a nice day o jare! 👋🏽
