 The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on Saturday advised governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to accept the verdict of the state Election Petitions Tribunal. The Oba in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Desmond Agbama, said in an election, there is no victor and no vanquished.
 

 About seven persons have died while seven others have been hospitalized in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi after a boat carrying 150 passengers returning from Malali Market capsized along River Niger. The Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in-charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, Alhaji Sulaiman Muhammad, confirmed the incident on Saturday.


. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared that no politician can stop the emancipation of the Biafran people. IPOB made the declaration in response to the claims by an elder statesman, Tanko Yakassai that the Biafra agitation was annoying and the oil in the South East does not belong to leaders of the group. IPOB, however, maintained that the struggle for the actualisation of Biafra was legal and backed by the law.



 Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared that begging has no basis in Islam​, warning Muslims in Nigeria to stop the act. ​He advised those engaged in such to find legitimate means of earning a living. Abubakar was speaking on Saturday in Sokoto.



Zamfara State ​​Governor​, Abdulaziz Yari, has again ‘attacked’ the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, for criticising his response to the outbreak of meningitis. He said while the people of his emirate live in abject poverty, Sanusi drives around with Rolls Royce. The governor ​accused the Emir of hypocrisy, and advised him to practise what he preaches.



 Professor of Christian theology in the University of Ilorin, Pius Oyeniran Abioje, has dismissed the general Christian belief that Jesus Christ died to save the world. Speaking while delivering the 167th Inaugural Lecture of the university, entitled, ‘Christian Prophets and Other Prophets in Nigeria’, the professor said Jesus Christ was killed by haters of truth. He blamed Christians for ignoring the real reason Christ was betrayed and killed.



 Report says a man, whose identity has been shielded by a local church in Makurdi, Benue State, has paid a tithe offering of N42m. The report claims the money was paid into the United Bank for Africa account of the NKST Church.


In sports, Enugu Rangers have been eliminated from this year’s CAF Confederation Cup, after they lost 3-0 to Zesco united in Ndola, Zambia on Saturday. The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions crashed out on a 5-2 aggregate.
