Six Out Of 36 Govs Who Do Not Owe Pensioners To Be Honoured.

The Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) has said only six of the 36 governors and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) do not owe pensioners in their states.

This was contained in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja and signed by the spokesman, Comrade Bunmi Ogunkolade.

The union which is an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and oversees the welfare of pensioners identified the governors as Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode; Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun; and Jigawa State Governor, Abdullahi Badaru.

The others are Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, and Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

NUP said the six governors will receive award of excellence in recognition of their role in the welfare of pensioners at its 10th quadrennial delegate conference scheduled for next Wednesday when they will elect leaders that will pilot the affairs of the union for the another four years.

Ogunkolade said the governors have prioritised pensioners’ welfare and deserved the honour being conferred on them.

He said pensioners in the country would hold the conference to assess what the future holds for the contributory pension scheme and also set agenda for the federal government.

The conference is also intended to resolve how to tackle state governors who have deliberately refused to offset pension liabilities to the senior citizens.

    2. They won't. They will rather blame everyone else (yorubas & hausas) for their woes and keep supporting the very ones who have sucked them dry, all in the name of 'tribe'.
      They deserve what they get.

  11. Even though Akwa Ibom state governor, Udom Emmanuel has turned the state into a dark place at night by refusing to on street lights especially around Idoro,Itam and Ikot Ekpene thereby encouraging crime. At least we are happy enough that he pays salaries promptly.

  15. I KNOW MY STATE GOVERNOR CAN NEVER BE PART OF THEM, BECAUSE HIS NAME IS EVEN A MISTAKE IKPEAZU MEANING AT THE BACK, IF YOU GO TO ABA YOU WILL TAKE OFF IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE OF BAD ROAD, DIRTY ENVIRONMENT, BLOCKED DRAINAGES AND LACK OF SECURITY. THEY CALLED IT "GOD'S OWN STATE" GOD'S OWN STATE BAWOOOOOOOOOOOOO? FROM ORJI UZO KALU TO, THEO ORJI THE BIGGER THIEF TO THIS HYPOCRITICAL IKPEAZU BACKWARD. IF YOU GO TO OTHER EASTERN STATES YOU WILL UNDERSTAND BETTER THAT ABIA IS MOST AWKWARD IN TERMS OF DEVELOPMENT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE. I AM SO VEXED THE CALIBER OF HUMAN BEING BEING ELECTED IN THAT STATE IS VERY ABSURD.

  28. How did Ogun state make the list? He hasn't even paid pensioners gratuity for years. my mum retired in 2014 and hasn't received her gratuity. Recently, he even said he will deduct some amount of money from those that have received their gratuity to pay for government expenses. And he will also deduct from those that have been paid their gratuity from their monthly pension.
