Ekiti State Govt To Sponsor The Remains Of Actress Moji Olaiya Back To Nigeria

The burial of Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya, earlier scheduled for 4pm yesterday (Friday, May 19, 2017) in Canada, was aborted at the last minute by Ekiti state government.

The remains of the 42 year old mother of two daughters who died of cardiac arrest following childbirth complications on Thursday, May 18, in Canada, will now be ferried to Nigeria for burial.

Insiders at the Magodo home of the actress (in Kosofe local council area of Lagos) revealed that the government of Ekiti volunteered to bankroll the shipment of the corpse to Nigeria.

Earlier, the family and her colleagues had agreed that Moji Olaiya should be buried in Canada as Islam enjoins (with diseased buried not later than the second day after death) at 4 pm yesterday. But the plans changed with the intervention of Ekiti state (where the actress is from).

Her eldest daughter, Adunola, 18, had insisted that her mother’s corpse should be brought back to Nigeria. But she was persuaded to allow it hold in Canada.

Moji Olaiya’s Abuja based Alhaji husband and father of her two month old baby, who arrived Lagos yesterday, also acceded to the Thursday burial.
But with Ekiti state intervention, all will await the corpse which will arrive Nigeria by the weekend.

Still in shock about her death. Her death reminds me funmi Martins death, years back. My prayers are with her family especially her daughter Adun.
Feel sad about what people wrote her, until u are in someone's shoes(predicaments), do not judge.
It takes two to tangle, I wonder why it is only the woman dat is been abused, what of d man. Which is better RUNS with married men or get WIFED by a Married man.
May her soul rest in peace.
She has finished her race, what about You.

To we the living, may God help us number our days so that we will live a righteous life. There's nothing in this life.

That's better, thy shouldn't have considered burying her in a foreign land considering her status in her country. She made impact in the movie industry, most of us enjoyed her films.

She was dead on arrival (dod) !!!
She died even before reaching the hospital. Stress during pregnancy & after childbirth is a major killer!!! Especially for the older women.
She already developed serious health issues as of 2 months ago before her death.

Ur illiteracy is on another level!!!

How can u say her husband? And yet she's very much single on paper & traditionally ?
Is that how yoroba people think?

If this woman died in Nigeria, they would have started trending hash tags justice for moji. Now , because it is in Canada, no one is trying to suspect if there was some form of negligence because it was her time . When you die in Nigeria, it becomes doctors and nurses vampire feast.
First of all, pregnancy puts a woman at a risk of Silent Myocardial Infarction (meaning death of heart muscle) any woman that is hypertensive is not just given any antihypertensive drug but a particular one to prevent this condition.
At her age, she is obviously a high risk patient. At 40, she has to be under vigilance. What happened to her is classical of Cardiac arrest following a myocardial infarction.
I read most people talking about eclampsia and press eclampsia. Yes but remember she had her baby over two months ago, I would have said post partum eclampsia but if you read the story carefully, this is more of a cardiac arrest.
Hypertensive diseases of pregnancy is a disease of the BLACK. Believe it or not, it is commoner in our environment so we tend to have the skills to manage it more than foreigners who probably see it once in a very long while.
Back in the UK, I was surprised that some doctors there don't even know the drug of choice for this condition just like I don't know much about the conditions commoner in white and very rare in blacks. What they call huge fibroid abroad is like the size of an orange. In Nigeria you see people removing fibroid of 20kg, the patient can't even walk again. That is the diversity. We don't have to blame the hospital or believe everything we hear about our hospitals because death and negligence can happen everywhere.
Well done Fayose. Try and equip the e hospitals in your state and pay workers salary. Our intervention shouldn't just be when someone turns into a corpse first.
Now there is outbreak of Ebola and no one is there to check anyone. Until you will hear that 10 people are dead then they will start looking for health workers that will die for them.
The likes of Dr Adadevoh are almost gone, the new generation doctors will not die for you if you won't do same for them. Na side on look we go dey. Prevention is better than cure.

Smh, you girls have no esteem. May ur wishes be granted, polygamy is your portion.

Anonymous said...

Don't mind them. Instead they will start making excuses and covering up for them. That's when they will even go and browse and come up with one million reasons why it is her time. If na naija they will still blame the doctor for a 90year old woman that died natural death.

Anonymous said...

Comes home? She is gone. Her remains is nothing but decaying flesh. God rest her soul.

Anonymous said...

How come no one is asking what these complications are? If na for naija them go Don kii doctor and close hospital join.

Anonymous said...

I like the Yorubas, they always pull together in joy or sorrow. It's a positive thing I learnt from them. What Ekiti govt did us what south west governments do. Other regions can learn from them. With this kind gesture, they will help bring closure to her daughter and even her mother. That Abuja alhaji should pls focus on his wife at home and that baby with his other children and stop wifing ladies. Train the ones you have with good quality education and lifestyle abeg. Polygamy is evil.

I really don't get o, Islamically a dead person should be buried within 24hours, the deceased husband and family members have decided to do things the right way but fayose stopped the burial because he is who? the deceased father? what right does he have to do that? Mtchew misplaced priorities

To those shouting,, "she is Muslim, he is Muslim". Islam does not encourage or support adultery. If he wanted to take a second wife, he would have announced to the first wife and the family. Not one person catching by force belle. Mr Femi is happy eating moi moi and akamu with his wife and children. It is the woman that suffers the most from adultery: Note to side hens.

You anonymous should just shut up.
She tried on the way to the hospital. So which doctor and nurse should be blamed for negligence.

If you like, carry your Nigerian spirit work for UK and make silly mistake. That's when you will know Naija is better for you.

Anonymous said...

Thanks. I Also thought about this. it is really surprising that no one has mentioned negligence since it happened in canada. Thanks for also eductaing us about risk in pregnancy at over 40

Anonymous said...

No matter how we condemn people, nobody has a death day. It could be anybody anytime, anywhere and anyhow. Weather you are the best christian, muslim or whichever, it is God alone dt knows about our forthcoming death.

Anonymous said...

Anon9:24, contrary to that something happened during childbirth that had lead to that. Did you not read about the complications? If that complication was managed very well, she won't be felling unwell. It means that even as she left hospital, she wasn't ok. Something went wrong somewhere.

Anonymous said...

You are right though. I am 4 months pregnant and I have been on blood pressure medication from the day I knew I was pregnant. I ran to my GP and they recommended the medicine for me. My blood pressure is absolutely fine and I am closely monitored.I know God will see me through.

Pregnant women need to take their health serious. It starts when you are pregnant not when you are almost due. Don't ignore signs and please check every every.

I really don't know what happened with Moji's case but dying 2 months after seems strange. God knows best and may she rest in peace.

But what is the issue if the guy is Muslim? Their religion permits it.

Anon 9:46, pls I want to know you.

Her family is Christian. She was also a Christian before she converted to Islam.
If the so called horseband or her so called Moslem associates are so concerned about her mode of burial.
Let them come and take over. You think burial of someone is chicken change.
Or you think that person she was staying with in canada that she was even uncomfortable there will drop money to bury her.
Let her family that love her and there for her bury her the way they see fit.
Fayose is doing what her next of Kin which should be her older daughter is requesting as her heir.

Adun darlyn, God will always be there for you and your sister. Hold on tight and win for her. Help will not depart from you. And be good. Moji is one of the very few actresses I respect so much.

Hmmm thank you fayose moji rest in peace. I pity femi, now people will accuse him and the wife of killing her which might not be. Let's all check our heart all the time. Until you loose someone the same circumstance the family did you will not understand what it means to have closure...read the the story and understand...read the part where ekiti state gov't volunteered to bankroll the shipment of the body...perhaps the family would never have considered buring there daughter, mother, sister, aunty etc...in a strange land where she was not based...if they had money to bring the body back....you can never understand.

Anony 09:46...good suggestions but there seems to be some other factors and forces outside what you analysed. Truth is Moji hasn't had it cool in the last 2 years.

This death raised my hackles and gave me serious goosebumps. While waiting for the woman that sold moi moi leaves to me yesterday evening, I was reading the story online when she returned with the sizes I wanted, she peeped and I told her that Ireti is dead(that's her most popular name courtesy of TV Series Super story), Moji's poster fir tge launching of her last movie was on the wall in that shop, she wailed real bad. Muttered some Islamic wordings and wiped her face , then she said "so Alhaja never escape from this thing, she may not survive this one". What do you think that meant? They live in same neighbourhood and attend same mosque mind you.

Recall her brother passed on 2 years ago in May? Ever heard of household enemies or principalities and powers? The whole Lagos is mourning my dear, not just Ekiti. The pain is heavy, journalists couldn't interview actresses on TV yesterday they were wailing, all red faced.
Reminds me of Late Amaka Igwe's exit. Shocking!

Weldone Gov Fayose.
God give her family the fortitude to bear this loss.
Goodnight Soft spoken Moji Olaiya.
It is well.

ololade Salaudeen said...

Ahba let's stop being bias Na, we all know moji family was In support of burying her on Thursday, the only person who wanted her back home Is her daughter, they already agreed to bury her. And who said Fayose stopped the burial because of money? Beside you are still looking at all this from a Christian perspective, it doesn't cost too much to bury someone especially someone her age. Infact we Dont even need casket, we only need mat.

All I'm saying is it's wrong for Fayose to stop the burial when the family has agreed to do the needful the man sabi to do 'karimi' too much and I don't get why no one can see that

Fayose did not stop the burial against their wish. He rather stepped in for them financially because her colleagues had started to ask for donations to bring her home on her daughter's request. So the governor prolly felt emotional about the young girls request and he stepped in to make things easier. And besides, moji was from Ekiti

Anonymous said...

Sisi Eko,thank you for educating Ololade Salaudeen, who is so limited in Intellect to reason that Fayose could not have spontaneously stopped the burial. His gesture is a kind deed to offer help and let the family have closure. Mr Ololade, uhmm, i pity you cos your level of ignorance is Epic. Chai, i shudder and sigh when some people write or enunciate their thoughts. I pity those who associate with you.
