Brave Policeman In Owerri Robbery Viral Video Succumbed To His Injuries In April

A policeman , who has been described by many Nigerians as a hero after a viral video showed him gunning down one of the four armed robbers who attacked a bank in Imo State in February 2017 , died two months after the incident

He is Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko.

The three- minute video , apparently a CCTV footage from the bank, has been circulated on news sites and blogs in the last few days , quickly becoming one of the most talked about events of the past week in Nigeria .

The video shows Iboko who shot one of the robbers escaping from security post, while one of the other robbers pursued and shot after him .

The Imo State Police Command told punch that due to multiple gunshot injuries Iboko succumbed to his injuries two months later while in intensive care .

Spokesperson for the command , Mr . Andrew Enwerem , explained that two other policemen were in the security post during the shootout and also sustained gunshot injuries.
“ They were in intensive care for up to two months. The two survived but Iboko died . He was a sergeant and mobile policeman , ” Enwerem said .

Prodded for more details , Enwerem said he did not have information about the deceased policemans age or his hometown .

Since the video became viral , there have been calls to reveal the fate of the cop as Nigerians demanded more recognition and honour for the deceased policeman

A lot of policemen have died in shoot outs, just that NO CCTV to show proof. Unlike this one. His family should be taken care of. How can a bank branch have JUST ONE mobile policeman? Don't they know the kind of robbers we have in this country, they are armed to the teeth with guns and juju. They are not smiling. My humble advice to all you security people guarding places abeg you better fortify yourselves so that bullets can never enter your body. Forget church. Go traditional. It is the only way to face these bastards. God sef approves traditional methods. He gave us roots and herbs.

aaawh so sad with that video footage no way that police man would have survived it ,from that video he shouldnt have come out from that room he would have taken all of them from that spot running out was a great mistake ,he was in a very good spot to shot on the targets ,they can only come at him if they are juju fortified ,
rest in peace to the dead.

What do they mean by they do not know his home town, they better give him the honor he deserves. If they cannot afford compensating his family, they can put up his wife or relatives account details so that nigerians can atleast help in their little way. Rip hero

Kai God bless his soul,I kept wondering if he made it!!!!
See the kingpin strolling out of the car so casually with that much bullet flying around,he was so sure he'd not be shot!!!!

For those who watched the video, is it just me or didn't you guys observe the bundles of money the robbers carted away? The time frame they stepped out of the camera's view was so short, that means they didn't enter the bank. So who did they trail to the bank? Whose money was stolen outside? And for the robber that died, has he been identified? Using him, they can get his close group of friends and arrest the rest. These are the questions I want answered oh.

That is just too sad. But he needs to be honoured. Did he have a family? Children? They need to be honoured. How can you be a spokesman for police and not have important details such as age and hometown etc. Please police nor fall for our hand oh.., you have been doing a great job thus far. Please was he married with children. If so his family need to be recognised and compensated. Not brothers and sisters oh but wife and most especially children. That robber that kept shooting at him needs to feel the pain he has inflicted on the nation Nigeria. Please police keep Nigeria up to date with this and we need to know who the informants to the robbers. They tipped the robbers off about the money. That way Nigerians can be a lot more careful.

That would be too easy for them

But the robbers used juju to cover their faces and the whole of Nigeria and Nigerians abroad still saw their faces so what are you in about.

This is the major reason policemen don't risk their lives. They are poorly paid and once they die, the family is chased out of the barracks. The government must wake and increase the wages of the policemen while the bad ones are chased out. It's quite embarrassing for the spokesperson not to have the full details of the gallant officer. What a shame. RIP fine officer.

Running out of his post was what killed him! He had more advantage in his comfort zone, and his shooting skill is very poor. He had the opportunity of taking down the driver and the guy that sat at the back, but he was shooting at the car and can't shoot accurately. You are carrying AK47 for Christ sake, infact he is not properly trained fullstop

So sad.. RIP gallant mopol..Dose robbers where obviously fortified, bc the police shot repeatedly at the back seat of the vehicle shattering the glass yet that guy wasn't hit he came out and continued shooting @ d police. Also d driver was damn to casual and nonchalant with d amount of bullets flying by, that must tk some great belief from juju obviously and how dey didn't even take a second look @ deir fallen member.

The Observer said...

They don't have his details??? Really?
I won't be surprised if he was jst abandoned at the hospital, no one to sort d hospital bill so he proli didn't get d medical care he required. God save Nigeria

Anonymous said...

Noooo! Don't say that. It is called split second. It is so fast that most times no one knows d best decisions. The mopol ran thinking it will help... We don't know if the other policemen in the security post had guns or shot. It looks like d robber who was killed checked d window of d security office and decided to use the door. Did u read about d incident when it first happened? It was reported up side down. The truth is coming now bcoz of the CCTV footage. I think the brave policeman was abandoned in d hospital. Hence he died. For d fact dat he survived 2months shows he would lived. He was neglected

How I wish they were even wearing bullet proof vest. But offcourse no one expected such a thing to happen that day.
To think so many lives were lost for just money of how much.
See the able bodied men. Can't you just even Rob without shedding blood.
And they will wear trad and worship with their families on Sunday at church especially that driver that looked so responsible. These men have no hearts at all,I pity the women married to them .
Rip to the Slain officers.

You are very coreect.

You did not have information about "his age and hometown" so how are you going to have a compensation plan for this grieving family of a brave policeman?
What really are the folks in Nigerian government doing; sharing money in Abuja?
