Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative..

Hmm....

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
CAREER OPTIONS

Good day Stella of life, you are one awesome lady I truly admire. keep up the good works, I was introduced to your blog early last year and since then ,I have been hooked. I decided to send in my chronicles to get good advices.

Stella your red pen is also important as someone who has started out on her own after working for someone else,
I was lucky to get a job immediately after service, not just any job but a well paying one.

presently, I earn over 500k monthly, but the truth is that I am not happy on the job, in fact, I can say am miserable on the job. The target is killing, the stress is not here, the constant humiliation, harassment and bashing I get constantly for not meeting my target is getting unbearable. I don't have rest of mind on the job, its really disheartening.

Two, years ago, I started my side hustle [a school], and by the grace of God it is growing, I have almost 100 students. I am thinking of quitting my job in January to face my business squarely.

I know my presence will make a difference, considering my over ten years experience in a corporate organization, my training and charisma, and of course with the grace of God, I can grow the school faster,
But my problem is that I am so scared of leaving my well paying job, am scared of having to stay without my monthly income of over 500k. am used to living a comfortable life, travelling out, even helping my relatives with money for different purposes.

Am married with kids and DH also has a good job too. pls Stella and my fellow BVs,what's your advice? do you think I can go ahead and take the plunge? for those who have left a well paying job to start up on their own, please how did you cope? what is the experience like?

I know the first few months will be a bit difficult, but even though I live a comfortable life, am not a spendthrift, I have been able to save a little for myself.

most people I have told, have told me not to resign because of the money, they say I should hold on. am really confused and don't know what to do. what time is really the best time to leave?

how do I survive without my monthly pay? kindly advice as I am currently tired of my job, thanks in anticipation of your responses, thanks.

*My dear,I dont know what to say...if it doesnt give you peace of mind, then think twice.....
I noticed that you cleverly didnt include what kind of online job it is ...
Send us a mail explaining what you do and if it is possible for some people to help you out with your target so that you can pay them from your 500k and have peace of mind.

    1. Madam well done.
Well it is important to follow your dreams and build your own empire. However it is good to not Nigeria is at a very unstable point now. Sick president, Biafra fears, boko haram this is really not the time to be taking risks. In my opinion why not wait till the end of the year and see how the country is looking? Your school will still be there and you will have a better idea of the risks you are about to take.

Meanwhile pls let bus know the comoany so that as you are resigning we will be applying thanks.

Madam plz let's do it like this. Outsource the job to me and pay me half the salary monthly while you take the other half. Please am begging you ma.
It's a win win situation for us, I get the job and all the insult while you get 250k monthly supervising me. God bless you as you reach out to me.
N.B: I have 3years sales and marketing experience.

    5. Madam please resign and face your business squarely. Cut down on your spends for now and adjust your life style for sometime. I am also in the same shoes right now and I plan to finally throw in the towel December 2017. I work with a multinational. I was recently promoted to manage distributors business in the eastern part of the country But I rejected the offer because after i weighed on the cons and pros I realised that I had more to loose leaving my business and family in Lagos in pursue if career. I will only advice you to continue if you know you derive joy and satisfaction during what you currently do and there is HIGH hope that you will be promoted regularly.
Fear of the unknown is what you have right now and truth i know that feeling. In my case I cried my eyes out when I rejected a promotion I wanted so much. Use your head and not your heart.
Is your husband in support though? That's another thing. For me 500k is bullshit money really. If you earn half of that now after all expenses on your business and you are not there physically imagine what you will make when you are fully available to call the shots.
Grow your dream and watch it turn to gold. 10 years is enough time to walk out gracefully please. Your husband as a good job dear. I have done 5 years and I ain't doing this more. Good luck.

    6. @poster, from your narrative, I deduced you are a bank marketer. Your chronicle just felt as if I wrote it, I know exactly what you are going through. I experienced such and had to resign when I was almost becoming suicidal. It's only you that can make this decision but with the support of your family. No job is worth your peace of mind. If you decide to throw in the towel, the beginning will not be all rosy but believe me, with God on your side and determination, you will be happy you took that decision.

    8. Nigeria is too unstable for you to resign your job for this venture. Interview proprietor yourself. YOU MUST find someone who will can run your school for you. Until that business has really blossomed, I will not advice you to quit your well paying job.

    9. Here's my solution, it's not fool proof but I am in. The same situation as you and its what I've decided to do. Save 300k every month for 10months. Quit and pay yourself salary of 150k per month from your savings till things level out. Continue saving when the cash starts coming in. Peace of mind is everything even though this problem sounds like a spoilt brat problem.

"People you told said?" Have you discussed with you husband or are you two living separate lives? Doesn't his impute matter?
Are you happy in your home; fulfilling the role of a wife or will someone else take over soon; perhaps a maid?
What of setting a target in savings; like live a year from the proceeds of your business only and save like 5M naira then quit?
    Peace of mind is everything

    4. I agree. I have worked in marketing (bank) and I hated every part of it. The lack of peace ehn, no amount of money is a substitute. I know so many people including a 27year old who developed High BP because of the demands and stress of such work. What kind of money is worth your health and peace? None! At least you have a growing business already, plus some savings and a well to do hubby. Madam, you will be perfectly fine. Don't let fear stop you. If u have no peace in it, then it's not for you. You will be surprised how much farther u will go with your school, plus how much happier.
I left without a plan B, unmarried but with a little savings. God has been so faithful and I'm in a very happy place and I know it will only get better. Don't slave away for anybody oo. They will replace u as soon as u kpai! I learnt that the hard way after I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. Madam, act in faith.

Bt, nobody can run ur business like u can, also, 500k plus is a huge sum of money to earn monthly. I think u shouldnt quite just yet, to avoid regrets. Start uo another more lucrative business while still working, have a practical plan maybe a year, see how it works before quiting. Understand that its a risk and u may or maynot go bck to ur more comfortable life bt its somtin that u shud prepare ur mind for.saveup and pray, God will see u through.😘😘

Na wa. Thank God for my job. That means those of us in the office are really enjoying ooo even with that kind pay most of my colleagues receive.

Since you need the monthly pay of N500,000, make you manage am like that.

  17. A neighbor of mine, a lady banker whose husband also was a banker was so busy on her job.
She had 4 kids and paid a "nanny" to take care of them, this was in early 2000s.
She worked so hard and could afford "flying out" etc. You remember the banking boom during the early OBJ administration.
On this faithful day, the nanny left the kids to buy something from a nearby shop. Well I don't know if "women's gossip" took over.
The oldest child who was about 7 years old probably wanted to warm meal for the younger sister who was crying or whatever happened, the kids were roasted; all died inside that building.

Now madam had all the 6 figure job and flying out tickets but no child.
she resigned immediately and began running a nursery school close to her home. As at the time I left there like 4 years after the incident, she hadn't had another baby.

It hasn't been easy but i've survived the first year and looking at the bigger picture. The good thing is that you have an existing business, savings and husband (support) so should be fine concentrating on your business.

Your school won't give you 500k now but with a bit of hardwork you will get there someday. At the end of the day we all want financial independence either in paid employment or as an entrepreneur.

Finally, what do you want? You FIRST!!!

  29. Let me say it's NOT as tough as you think. The fear of the unknown is your major problem. You already have a play you will resume the next day you leave your current job if you so wish.

We have a similar thing but I was almost 20yrs and I wish I had left earlier. Also had somewhere to resume to immediately I dropped my letter too.
So my advice to you are as follows. Since you have a husband who has a job then your case is even easier cause am a man. Health is wealth and that's one thing you should not mess with. If your current job is affecting your health then start planning your exit. Have a plan.... Take a critical look at your school and how you can expand and make a few developmental changes that will bring more income and how much you will need. Have a time frame for your exit. This is June and you could say starting from next year so that you start the year on a fresh note.
Calculate your entitlements and other allowances you will get and how best you can put it to use.
From now start plugging those financial holes.....parties, shopping for things you don't really need and money for relatives who are not progressive by their actions. Start saving like your life depends on it. Pay for a year for things that might rock your finances like....insurance, school fees, Rent, etc. Cause you will have an incubation period that money won't roll in like it use to but things will definitely pick up financially once you settle down. Trust me if you don't start planning your exit you will always feel there is nothing out there for you if you leave your job. Remember the saying " your retirement starts the day your appointment begins". So prepare for your exit in good health and state of mind so that you can channel it into your own private business.

Wish you luck, the courage and wisdom to take that positive leap of faith by believing in the works of your hand.

#come back and thank me later.

  31. It depends on what your priorities are
There are no easy jobs out there. When you start managing that school full time, you will know exactly what it means.

Have you tried applying in other organizations?

There are many foreign organizations in Nigeria, that pays their staff over 600k monthly without the stress of meeting any target. I wish I can send you a link so you can try.

Continue to run your side business and continue with your work while you try applying in other places. Some foreign embassies in Nigeria pay their workers close to that amount or above depending on the position. You will not understand the importance of that 500k until you resign, rest at home for two months, use up all your savings, then you will get it clearly. You may think your boss is mean until you start running your business fully, then you will know what your workers will say about you.

Whatever you decide, your peace of mind comes first but remember that providing for your kids also give you peace of mind. Make the best decision for them.

    All the best Ma'am.

  36. Madam my advise is for you to save up and quit. I hate jobs that doesn't give peace of mind. You are thinking about your lavish lifestyle, have you thought about how you were leaving before you got this job? And how much you will be receiving as salary if you grow your own business? Do you know how much your boss is earning as salary? Have you thought about if you are sacked or if the company /business crumbles? Or you think your company is so fortified that nothing can happen to it? Then what would be your fate? Won't you leave then. Hope you remember Oceanic Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Airlines and some Oil companies that folded up and some that the government took over? My dear think well.I have come to understand one thing as an employee, there are 3 things that happens it is either you are sacked, resigned or retired, but in your case I don't see you retiring well. I implore you to resign, have a peace of mind and retain your sanity. After all it is not your company nor your father's. Somebody with one head started that company. GO AND FACE YOUR OWN AND GROW IT INTO MULTI MILLION NAIRA /DOLLARS EMPIRE. I used capital letters deliberately for you to see it clearly. Even if you are paid 1 million, it is still under somebody else decision. Good luck.

  37. Have you prayed about it?

School business is just like feul-station business.... You need money somewhere to boast it once in a while or else it will collapse.

    Teachers want the best pay
    Students would go on excursion.
    Repairs.
    Electricity bill... And so on

The profit will come in, no doubt but the expenses and gbogbo ti gbo leaves one with virtually nothing.

    Think hard and deep.

  38. For a person who is trying to stabilize a new school and wondering if you should quit a well paying job,my answer is No, never leave your job before your new venture is successful otherwise it can lead to a roller coaster ride,in Nigeria today a job that pays 80k with no benefits and entitlement is equally stressful as your job, start saving up to support your school and make it standard, employ suitable and experienced hands to help you manage the school while you also get involved when you are not occupied with your job, resign when the turnover from the school can conveniently settle bills for you and the school.
    Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well this is what I have to say.
If you don't work to achieve your dreams you will only and up achieving the dreams of others.
Now don't get me wrong,it doesn't imply that you shouldn't work for someone but don't build a castle there..we all have our own dreams too.
And poster you owning your school might be what you always dreamt of,you must have saved why not make your dream a reality now?

  40. The fear of the unknown keeps a lot of people back from achieving their dreams unfortunately, not lack of ideas.

You've spent 10 years working for others, so you probably know more than enough about work culture and what it takes to grow a successful business.

You have a good business which is up and running, funds to cushion the first few years of business, trustworthy staff, and most importantly a passionate business owner who must be hands on 24/7.

The benefits of working for your self are worth it in the long run.

Note that of course before business truly scales it might be the next 4-5 years as you will be actively ploughing profit back into your school.

If you're considering quitting because you're trying to escape a volatile situation, trust me owning a business isn't any easier. But if you have a strong passion for this and feel you can achieve so much more, go for it.

  41. When you wake up every morning, please do not forget to boast and appreciate how great God has been in your life while on your knees praying to him. Let me give you a very candid and sincere advice and please listen well. Do you have a genuine passion to impact knowledge on pupils? If yes, then great because you are definitely on track but if no, do not quit your job, I repeat, do not quit. It is only your genuine passion and zeal that will determine how great your school business will become with God by your side of course. I wonder why Nigerians are scared of taking risks, which is the only way to succeed and be the best at what you do. I totally understand taking risks has its major setbacks but hey, that is business and business is all about taking risks. Give yourself a few months to make up your mind on what you really want and if you are ready to take on the world. Think properly and seek your husband's opinion too but at the end, it is what you want and wish for yourself that matters. N500k is not really a big deal for a person like you that God has blessed with over 100 students. Do not be deceived, 100 students are a whole lot for a great start, if you want to succeed in this business venture, then you must be fully involved. Do not allow anyone take major decisions on your behalf, that is how to succeed. Take the risk but please be ready before you do and always remember that “there is nothing like failure but there are those who do not know how to succeed”. There is nothing as awesome as having peace of mind with your job, do not take pour happiness for granted I look forward to hearing your success story a few years from now when you begin to reap the benefits of your sacrifices, hard work, perseverance and due diligence. Best wishes

  42. Poster.......take the plunge please and stop living a miserable life because of money. You can plan it like save a particular amount within 3-6months.With almost 100 pupils already, you're good to go. Get good teachers and increase the school by like 5%, that should be able to take care of the overhead you're afraid of.
I'm talking from experience, I also run a school and there's nothing like having peace of mind.....

  43. Do you really need our advice to put your life together madame poster?
First of all, you are married and I'm pretty sure with kids.
Don't you think your kids needs more of your presence, your husband likewise.
Quitting that miserable job will not only give you room to build yourself, you will also have the time to build your home and your business too.
Passion is everything. You sound very passionate about your business. I honestly think you should quit your job and channel all your energy to making your school the next big deal.
And don't forget that you could be laid off anytime from the job especially if you suddenly become unable to meet the high targets you are complaining about.
Sister, trying to keep the job and also running your school successfully means you are trying to eat your cake and having it all the same.
Madame that's not possible. You also said your husband has a good job, I don't see any risk you would face by quitting your job as your hubby is expected to support you too
You have been winding the whole time about how miserable the job makes you feel. Madame QUIT. As long as you are still on that job you will always sound bitter, desperate and pitiful.
For once in your life, do something that makes you happy. Quit! Quit! Quit!. Thank me later.

  44. You better keep on managing your job and allow your school to grow big, do not resign, try your best and let God help you out. Have you done a sacrifice to God? Giving him all one month salary for Him to make always meet your target, do not resign.

  45. Answer the question by yourself. Tell your husband that you are on probation because you did not meet up to 15% of your target in June. Therefore June salary was not paid. His attitude till the end if July when you get your next pay check would tell you if you should resign or not

  46. So you people have driven Chikito away? Hahahaha! All those her never ending fairytales will finally stop!

  47. My Sister, you can't continue going to work sadly. That's a sign that you should quit the job and be your own MD.I left a paid job in 2003 and today.I'm MD of 3 companies. Your problem is fear of unknown. The most important person is your husband.Let him buy into your vision, if not you will regret ever taken the decision to quit. But I can assure you that school is a very good venture if you could set a standard and maintain it at any cost.

  49. Hello there, Let me advise you from personal experience. I was in similar position only difference is it's in the abroad. You see I had this great Job that would translate to like 60k Euros per year. Great package and a great place to work. Loved my colleagues and the status it brought. I was working for one of those multi national companies. Only problem is I wasn't happy with the job. I became bored but the pay was great so I shouldered on. I pretended everything was good but deep down I was dying. Then I started my side hussle. Not much paying at the time but I enjoyed doing it. After a while, I confided in a friend who told me to follow my heart and take the risk. I did and it was the best decision I ever took. It was hard at first but now I look back and say why didn't I take the risk earlier. You see in life there's never a right time. The right time is NOW. Go for it dear and never look back. Take half of the effort you put in your current job and see how fast you sour.. Don't let people who's never done it advise you. That's why they have never succeeded. Don't let fear hold you back. Move now and give yourself a 1 month holiday and travel so somewhere new and get time for yourself. Rest plenty and clear your head and come back in tiger mode ready to conquer. Not bragging but 500k is not that much of money any ways... Go and manage your school and even look to expand. Trust me you will be glad you did.

    Good Luck

  50. Before you make any decision pray about it first. Let God tell you what to do. Make sure you hear directly from Him first before you decide on your next course of action.

  51. If u resign u may not be happy and it will be worse because u cant fukky afford the things u used to afford. Get someone to manage ur sch and be involved too but i dont advice u quit ur well oaid jobb, many may not nrccessarily bring happiness but lack of money is frustrating, depressing, sucidal self because people that look up to u now look down on u. So just keep saving for now.

  52. Many people are faced with this same situation and the way out is very simple.

Set a target of 1year to resign and do a phase by phase salary reductions by yourself which you must adhere to strictly and no matter the situation don't change it

Step 1: from the first month save 250
Step 2: from the Sixth month save 350
Step 3: from ninth month save 400

When you follow this simple steps you will overcome the fear of nothing getting regular income when you resume at your school

    All the best
