Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative...

Hmmmm..

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
ADVICE FOR BROTHER NEEDED BADLY

Hello stella
Thanks for the platform your blog has provided for us. I'm a huge fan and God bless you for this. I have been a Bv for a long while now and my brother too(introduced him to it), tho he ain't a steady one. I just need an honest and sincere advices from you and fellow blog visitors.

It's about my brother (only sibling) actually. He did diploma in Business Administration and he's currently running a 4yr course on same Business Administration as a level 1 student. He's going to 21 years old soon and he already sees himself as a man.

He wants to drop out of school and he's serious but hasn't made up his mind finally. Reasons being that, my dad is late and things are not so good with my mum catering for us alone. The stress and everything is getting to us plus my mum and my brother are really more close...(lol .. I was with my dad until we lost him) and he hates seeing her stressed out or trying to cater for us. I'm two years older tho..

We talked about it and he doesn't buy the idea of me dropping out, reasons that I'm a girl and it will be tougher for me. We actually have an Uncle staying outside Nigeria who helps out now and then, but my brother is the type that doesn't like depending on others (I too.lol.. love the concept of having my own money too and spoiling my mum since my dad is late) . He wants to drop out for now, hustle and take care of things, when things are comfortable enough (we believe and hope so) , he will go back and do part time.

He intends to talk to my uncle about it before telling my mum (we don't know how she will take it and we want to make sure we have something tangible for substitution). I kinda see some sense in it, considering the state of things regarding unemployment in Nigeria. But I'm really afraid of what the future will hold for us if we take this step. I just need advice.. We want un diluted advices from you guys...

Is it okay or advisable to drop out now, hustle and go back later...or should he not?. My dad family are already hitting that he will marry early as per only son... my brother is going to be around 25 plus before he graduates and starts 'hustling ' before settling down. We are just confuse.

Thanks stella and everyone!!

    5. @poster,at a point like this;all you can ask for is grace from God.

When i started my Diploma;i was just exactly like your bro..
How did i come this far?? Its just God and grace..
Im in my finals now and would be rounding-off this year by Gods grace..

Going for business at this point doesnt guarantee that all would be well instanta;but at least the possibility of a future is there...

Going to school on the other hand doesnt mean he would make it when he is out,but alldsame;the possibility of a brighter future is there if you can keep your head high, know what you are doing and lastly believe in God..

      What am i saying?
Its up to him to decide on which path to take, cos a higher percentage of students in school today never had the money in the bank already waiting to be spent on their education..
The miracle there is that the more you go,the more the grace increases and Boom!! You see yourself going farther gradually..

He knows his destiny and can tell if schooling is his calling or not..
But even if schooling isnt his calling;its still a plus for him cos a better opportunity can come up anyday and you would need a cert to go for it...

We all know what we want out of life and Its left for him to decide on one and push on!!
God works in a mysterious way...

If finally he decides to continue with schooling,he should add a side business/hustle..
Depending on his location,he can be buying students wears, personal effect etc from distributors and reselling to his fellow students..The money might not be much but last last he will survive..

Tell me there is no God,and i will tell you my story!!

      Good-Luck!!

Your father's family have no right to ask the guy to marry early..SmfH. ..This only son thingy is so freaking annoying..In this day and age? smfh...We all must not go to school...Most of the World richest people didn't go to school..Life is about how one makes it...and He can always go back to school..

  4. My dear, he doesn't have to leave one for the other.... Since he's already in school, he can continue and find a side hustle, there are people making it as students, let him fine out what he loves doing, see if he can combine it with his studies and then move from there..... It's easy to say "I'll go back for part time when things gets rosy" but we don't know what the future holds, don't throw away the food you have at hand because you're not hungry yet!!

No matter what anyone says, Education is paramount, it's good to be always prepared, we don't know when /what opportunity awaits Us!!

  5. Sorry for your loss dear.
Please he shouldn't drop out, the race may seem tough but 100 years is not forever. You didn't mention the school he is in but if it's a federal school, I think their fees are way cheaper than state or private university.
Your mother isn't complaining yet though you both know she is struggling. Let him fine something to do while in school. It's not eas getting admission these days and since he has one already, he should hold on to it. I know a guy who trained himself alone, he is an orphan and slept in the class. He had no relative or friends to out up with and shame wouldn't let him share his struggles. He hustled by working in the schools computer centre, typing materials and helping students with handouts and assignments for a fee. Opportunities are everywhere, your brother should find his while in school and hustle while schooling.
This guy graduated with a second class upper and now a home owner. He did all this alone and I know it's easier said than done but you wouldn't know until you try. It will break your mum's heart to have your brother willingly drop out not because he failed.

      Heed Doppelganger advice
Let you bro not drop out from school
Advise him to find a real hustle right there in school. I had a friend who buys clothes "okirika" to sell in school and paid his way from the proceeds

Let your mum also continue to do her bit. Don't take your problems off her neck; she hasn't asked for such. When d time comes, she will reap d benefit.

In conclusion, while we r in our comfort zone, we never know what we r capable of. Now that the shoe pinches, it becomes a duty to find comfort.

  7. I will prefer he graduates first.

When my late dad passed away, i wanted to enter into University and then my brothers too, so I had to wait for them to finish first since they are the men and must keep Daddy's name alive and so they must have a voice in the family. I will like to ensure you guys try and make him finish his school.

For the uncles disturbing him to go and marry, na village mentality dey worry them. Dont allow him to listen to them. He should make his life better first

  8. My dear. If he drops out now he might get never get back in school even part time because he'll have responsibilities to handle greater than school stress.

If you've got better initiative he can nurture now that will mature in 2 years no problem.

Your brother will marry before 24years! So he should think of a better substitute

  9. I don't think it's a bad idea to drop out and learn a skill if things are difficult financially. How many graduates can boast of good jobs in this country called Nigeria? If that is what he wants to do, encourage him. He can go back to school later.Go out there and see a lot of graduates learning skills they ordinarily would not have given a thought before now.

  21. I feel your concern and worries. But let me start by saying that since we don't have the full story and facts we can only speculate on what the way forward might be.
Let me first ask what does your brother wants to do of he drops out of school? Hustle is one over rated word by people this days that a great number of people don't even understand what it means. When you "hustle" you do a lot of menial or minor jobs that are not high income but giving it extra time and hard work you make something reasonable out of it. These days there are no jobs not to talk of having more than one. So what's your brother's hustle about. If he wants to set up something then he needs capital? Has he got money to start a business?
At 21 he is too young to think he can solve all the family challenges. I feel it's good that he is willing to help sort things out but it's not that easy. He can still do his hustle by the side while he is in school. He might even see opportunities within the school environment that he can make good money. Trust me it's not easy going into the world armed with your hustling ambitions. One will get frustrated in no time. He needs to know what he will do the moment he drops out of school. Life is not easy as a whole lot of young ones think and it's everyone for himself cause it won't get easier but might get better with luck, advantage and God on your side. By advantage I mean having a capital, way to source for money and knowing people who are ready to support you. My advice is he should try and start by trying to "hustle" while still in school and see how it goes. So that in case things don't turn out as planned he has his education to continue with. Afterall there are a lot of students hustling and schooling at the same time. Why dump one for the other if you can combine.

Hope you understand .... The outside world is a shark infested ocean; only the tough survives.

    May God guide you.

#come back and thank me later.

  27. I like your brother! He sounds to me like a caring, sensible and hardworking young man but he shouldn't leave school for now. Let him hustle by the side while he is studying. Don't listen to any Uncle forcing you to marry. God will help you and I shall be praying for you. It is well with you.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Please, let him try and graduate, if he drops now, I bet it with you he might never go to school again. Everybody keeps talking about who graduate epp,but the truth is that Nigeria cannot continue like this and when the country turn out to be great once again, it is those that manage to graduate and go through school that they will eventually ask to come and work, you cant tell them then that you need to quickly go to school, it is those with the certificate they will first employ. Let him rough it through school, and everything will be fine. God will sustain you guys and one day you will both make your Mum proud

  29. Awwwwwwwwwww......This touched me.I can feel the love.

Honestly, if he was my brother I will advice him not to drop out.Its not easy but three years of suffer won't kill him.Good a thing your uncle picks the major bills so your bro can get a side hustle to support himself in school.

I know going to school doesn't determine if one will make it in life but when opportunity arises in a particular field of study even when one is not practicing, the certificate comes in handy.(Don't know if I communicated well).

Pls tell him to endure the pain and enjoy later.May God send destiny helpers your way.

    All the best.

  30. Nigeria (even developed countries) has gone past studying business admin, political science and the likes.
Where does he see himself after graduating from that course? I hope you guys have the connection needed to be gainfully employed otherwise it is a waste of money and time.

If he is dropping out, he should learn engineering skills, AC repairs, plumbing, IT, ERP and the likes. Within a year of training I can guarantee you he's going to start earning cash back because many of those workshops needs vibrant educated ones as supervisors etc. He should then enroll back into a school to study something around what he trained on.
He will be adept in his field and be readily employable after graduating.

Your uncle or mom is not complaining about the support, I see no reason a 21yo should think he shouldn't depend on folks support. If he pulls out and ends up derelict, he would still come back for the help of someone, I believe.

You both have the right support. Please get the right skills so you won't be dependent for long.
    All the best

  31. Poster......is it that your mother complain that she can't afford the school fees or what. Talk to your mother about this your brother's decision and let her tell you if she can cope with paying you and your brother's school fees.
See admission into university in Nigeria is not easy, I won't advice to throw away this opportunity he has now. There are people that do full time and still hustle on the side....

  32. Hi BVs!! I say make i peep...

Well, before anyone tells you education isn't 'that' important note that a 10 year old in primary school in the US is already using power point to do class presentations. Yet, some of us didn't use power point do presentation until I was in university. Can you see the gap between a high school graduate in developed countries and a high school graduate in Nigeria? You see teenagers learning programming abroad, in naija a Computer science graduate may not even know how to launch an app, if care isnt taken. So before anyone tells you about Steve Jobs being a drop out, they should check the quality of elementary education they got that had prepared him for the world stage.

As for me, i did business in university as a full time student. I don't see why a man can't. There were students hustling and schooling and/or working part time, especially if he schools in a commercial town like Lagos. Lets be honest, you do have free time in school if you know how to apply good time management and reduce time spent on frivolous activities. My friends younger brother (their dad is retired an their mum is late) He comes to lagos to buy men's wears and sells in his school in the east. He doesn't worry anyone for pocket money and pays half of his house rent from there. He's in final year now and is an independent full time student. So let him explain to your uncle and ask for capital instead. He should put all this anger into doing a small business (clothes, shoes, barbing salon, cab -guys like cab cos they get to own a car too) during his spare time. Most of the big shop owners we used to patronise in uni were students whi started biz from their small selfcon. This Iyanya we are haling, he was a karaoke boy back then, that was part of his hustle to survive in school. There will NEVER be a right time to go to school, not even when you make billions. It's all about what you want and the decision to stay or not stay. You dont go to school to be employed (wrong mentality) you go to school to get a qualification that would help you think critically in paid or unpaid employment, and even in business. If he focuses and prioritises, I believe he can do both.

As for those your father's relatives, i have a personal policy: IF YOUR MONEY NO JOIN FOR MY SCHOOL FEES ABEG YOUR MOUTH SHOULDN'T BE IN MY MATTER!! What's this rubbish timeline they're giving him? Oh, he's only son but they can't train him for their late brother? Anyway, maybe na una dey look their face. *hiss*

Let the boy focus and i tell you by the time he graduates with well-exercised business acumen he will be better than most plain graduates. Even abroad undergrads work certain hours a week and school full-time, not depending on their parents for pocket money. By 25 he will be graduate. This is the time for him to wear his pants as a man abeg let him tie belt and focus.

  34. Poster let you and your brother look into yourselves. Listen to that voice in you... dont let other people's opinion drown the inner voice in you. Don't be afraid to take the road less travelled by people. Have the heart to follow your own heart and intuition. Everybody journeys must be same. Maybe he needs to drop out now and go back later. Just listen to your instinct, it never fails. They somehow know what you truly want and they pushes us to it... give it time, it will become clear. The ones crazy enough to follow their heart and not what the society says... somehow always changes their world and others. Now is the time to take risks, be bold and courageous. Look into your mind, mind your thoughts. Read this book 'the secret'.... think and grow rich' and Rich dad, poor dad.
