Drama As Kidnap Kingpin Evan Begs To Meet Reporter Who Interviewed His Wife + His Boys Granted Bail.

A disturbing dramatic interplay is rearing its ugly head over the ongoing investigation into allegations of kidnapping and armed robbery against Chukwudem Onwamadike a.k.a Evans, and other suspects who were recently, rounded up by the police in Lagos.

This is also as sources disclosed that the dreaded kidnap kingpin, Evans, has not been opening up well to interrogators about his accomplices although he was said to have mentioned one name. Though details of the disclosure were still sketchy as at press time, sources said investigators were discreet over the case but were seriously looking into his allegations with a view to establishing its veracity and effecting arrest.

The drama started after three of the suspects who were earlier detained before the suspected kingpin, Evans, was arrested, were granted bail by a Yaba Magistrate court. The trio, Kingsley Egbeonu, Emeka Egbuligha and Tochukwu Nwosu, all staff of Maydon Pharmacy in Ilupeju, whose owner, Chief Dona Dunu, escaped from Evans’ kidnappers den at Igando, were accused of masterminding the kidnap of their boss. They were subsequently arrested after their boss escaped and narrated his sordid experiences while in captivity.

Chief Dunu who parted with a huge ransom of N150m, reportedly alleged that while in the den of his abductors, he heard the voice one of the Pharmacist under his employ, discussing with the kidnappers. He further alleged that his abductors, while negotiating for ransom, revealed vital information about his company known only to his workers and that he also overheard them discussing how to remove goods from his warehouse not knowing that he would survive to disclose their identities. Based on these allegations, police investigators swung into action and arrested three of his staff, remanding them in their custody with court order.

It was gathered that after the arrest of the celebrated kidnap kingpin, Evans and his subsequent parade at the command headquarters, Ikeja, an identification parade was carried out and both Evans and other members of his gang said they did not know the three staff of the pharmaceutical company. Furthermore, a search at the warehouse of the company showed that nothing was tampered with contrary to earlier claims by the victim that he overheard one of the suspects discussing with his abductors how to part with his goods in the warehouse.

Saturday Vanguard learned that after this, their lawyers went to a Yaba Magistrate court to vacate police detention order placed on their heads. Meanwhile, while the accused workers were jubilating over their freedom, their estranged boss was gnashing his teeth, lamenting that police not only failed to provide him with security after he escaped from kidnapper’s den but also did not do a good job following which those he suspected as key accomplices in the kidnap saga have been freed.

This, according to sources close to him, has endangered his life the more and his family is accusing the police of negligence. “Our brother not only narrated how he heard the voice of one of his workers while in captivity but also gave vivid details of how his abductors were reeling out details of his company activities before collecting a huge ransom. All we are saying is that police abysmally failed to live up to billing in the court and even while investigating the suspected members of his staff.

We strongly believe that one of the members of Evan’s gang who was arrested with his wife is related to one of the suspected workers, and the fact that they denied knowing him does not mean that he should be freed. If not, how did they get information about the 40 cars he gave to his dedicated staff sometime ago. How did they know about his warehouse? These are related issues that should make police investigate them properly,” the family source stated.

On their part, police sources said Chief Dunu has not been showing up since he escaped from the den of the kidnappers. “As soon as he got his freedom, he disappeared without giving police his contact. We managed to get him to make statements later and after that, we did not see him again. Just imagine, almost all the victims have been coming forward, not only to commend police for the arrest of their tormentor, but to also make useful statements that could assist us carry out successful investigations into the criminal activities of the gang and their leader but Chief Dunu remains incommunicado.

What do you expect us to do? Go and arrest and force him to aid our investigations or what? Meantime, Saturday Vanguard learned that lawyers to the released staff of his company are threatening to go to court to redeem the image of their clients which they said had been so much bruised and battered by their arrest over the kidnap case. One of the lawyers was overheard saying that the case was adjoined for next month to enable police conclude their investigations and if eventually they are exonerated, which we are sure will happen, they will seek redress in court against the Chief for defamation of character and wrongful detention by the police.

Similarly, Saturday Vanguard gathered from reliable police sources that Evans might be flown to Force Headquarters, Abuja to meet with the police hierarchy for thorough interrogation over his criminal activities. Already, efforts were been made to prepare him for the meeting which sources said could include meeting with the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris. Detectives attached to the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, of the IGP’s special squad are still taking the kidnap kingpin to places in Lagos and environs with a view to identifying all the houses he used as cells during his escapades.

In another development, Saturday Vanguard learned also that the suspected kingpin has been making frantic efforts to meet with the reporter who interviewed his wife who spke from Ghana, on phone. Sources said he has been appealing to policemen guarding him to “please, in the name of God, beg Emma Nnadozie of Vanguard to come and see me let’s discuss something about my wife he spoke with on phone.”

*This is an appeal to the Gov of Lagos State....Evans must not escape or be granted bail....
And who in heavens name told him the name of the person who interviewed his wife?how did he even know?does he have internet access in detention?how did he know his wife was even interviewed?
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THOSE WHERE HE IS BEING held?

That reporter should not meet Evans please.
Maybe someone should start a twitter hashtag #donotfreeevans

    1. Nigerian police, bunch of useless people, you expect mr dunu to come forward, when you dint provide any form of safety for him, you also released the people he told you were involved, knowing they could come out and harm him, and you expect him to tell you his address, the way this thing is going Evans may still be controlling movements from prison. All they have been doing na wash

    2. My thought exactly, thank you.

    3. Evans and his gang might have purposely decided not to identify Emeka so as to spite chief Dunu who escaped. The kidnapers might want Emeka to be released to do their last wish, which is "deal with chief Dunu".

    4. Evans cannot do anything to the reporter Stella. He should be allowed to see him if the reporter obliges him. He may even wish to reveal more to him. It's his job and he shouldnt be afraid. If the reporter wanted privacy he would have interviewed her anonymously.

Meanwhile Evans will definitely get updates on his matter. His Lawyer will inform him of what's going on outside and every media development.

The suspects that were released on bail, unfortunately it's their right. As long as there are no concrete proofs linking them to Evans or their boss' kidnap, the police can not hold them any longer. Esp when Evans denied knowing them. However, it shouldn't end the police' inveStigation on the ex staff. They should be trailed codedly because if that man is so sure one of them is involved, then his intuition shouldnt be disregarded because of lack of concrete evidence yet.

      Ok bye

    3. This country eh! Donatus said he and Emeka's eyes met. It's not only his voice he heard. So the court granted them bail already. All these fake magistrates and lawyers. Donatus said he saw Emeka. Does the court need documentary evidence for that? I know they prefer documentary evidence to oral. But in d Absence of documentary evidence u use oral. Didn't the staff say Emeka was over generous during the kidnap? And were wonderin about his sudden source of wealth? Now he wants to sue Donatus for damages ? After kidnapping him with Evans. Evans that mentioned Emeka during his confessional statement. Kidnapping is the gravest thing u can do to a human being. Do u know how traumatized Donatus is? He's broke now. Hence he's running and hiding. Very traumatized. Someone that was almost lynched? . He's owing the banks. And the court is already granting bail.. Yet they didn't grant Kemi Oluloyo bail for 3months?fuck d judiciary..for ur info, I'm a lawyer

    4. I remember the part where Donatus said Emeka was coming to sleep in the house. Robbers usually take oath. So they could have taken oath that's why they didn't confess to knowing these staff. I'm sure Emeka is not innocent. Even if these silly magistrates release him, karma will never release Emeka. Amen

    5. @anonymous 10: 10, really? You are a lawyer? Then you aren't into practice. If you were, you would know that the only reason the magistrate granted the accused persons bail is because the offences in the charge they are facing are bailable offences. We didn't see the charge sheet to know what they are charged with. If at all, your anger should be directed at the police for charging them with bailable offences.

At arrangement stage in the magistrates' court, what the court considers is the charge and not the facts of the case. You can't expect a magistrate to start evaluating evidence before the hearing date. At the magistrates' court, it is more of oral evidence. Documentary evidence are tender as Exhibits. It's at the high court that proceedings are mainly through documentary evidence.‎

No magistrate will refuse to grant bail to an accused person because of an eyewitness account, regardless of how compelling it may be. Tha‎t eyewitness testimony will only be material when hearing commences. Also there's no such thing like in the absence of documentary evidence, the court will use oral evidence when it comes to the testimony of a witness. As a lawyer, you should know that any oral evidence without a corroborating documentary evidence has little or no evidential weight. All oral evidence must be in line with documentary evidence which is the extrajudicial statement of each witness. Without making a statement at the police station, a witness who gives oral evidence in court is regarded as an unreliable witness whose oral evidence will be discountenanced by the court.

When I read this, I wondered why the police didn't prefer more serious charges against them. Charges beyond the jurisdiction of the magistrates' court, so the magistrate will make a remand order and the duplicate case files forwarded to DPP. That way, they remain in prison custody until DPP sends legal advice. I know it's annoying but in this case, it is not the fault of the court. The court can't bring sentiments into adjudication. Not all lawyers are fake, by the way. If you claim to be one, you shouldn't make sure blanket statements.‎

      Delete
    6. Ro gini, u are not too vast in law. Arrangement or arraignment? Are u sure u are a lawyer? Even if the oral evidence is reduced into writing, it doesn't make it documentary evidence.so before the case started proper, bail has already been granted? Ms lawyer, what were the conditions of the bail? Didn't the magistrate include sureties?and the men r free already.. Until they kidnap u.. U won't think kidnapping is a trivial thing. The whole country knows now that it is a sensitive case, so the magistrates cannot trivialise issues. Laws are made for man. Not the other way. Haven't u heard of the literal, golden and mischief rules of interpretation? So the magistrates didn't hear of the allegations and followed the so called rules and bailed them. They should release Evans too. Ro, u are a new wig. Go and read more before u come here to SDK to comment..im the lawyer who wrote under anon 10.10

      Delete
    7. Anonymous 10:10, u r the one sounding like a new wig. The men in question can well be granted bail at this stage, so long as the offence is bailable in Lagos state. They r still presumed innocent till PROVEN guilty. U have only heard from one side. It is elementary and a cardinal principal of justice that u also hear the other side. What if the Emeka denies the allegations against him? U do not know the bail conditions or whether they have been met, nevertheless. Much as justice shd take its course in this matter, it must be done devoid of sentiment. BTW, I'm not Ronalda.

It appears you aren't particularly pleased with Chi, for whatever reason(s). Plus your colourful choice of words gave you away. Also, we tend not to rush through the comments of those we like or are cool with. But when you read the comments of someone who irks you, you tend to read three lines at a go instead of line by line, because you can't wait to launch an attack.

@anonymous 9:35, deep breaths my darling, deeeeep breaths. Inhale through your nostrils...hold your breath for 5 seconds...now exhale through your mouth. Please, repeat this 3 times, then read Chi's comment again, slowly. Only this time, imagine she were a sister or cousin of yours. You'll be amazed at the rush of warmth you'll feel inside.

Judging by your earlier premature outburst, there's a good chance you'll ignore the breathing exercise, so allow me make it quicker for you. Chi wrote "I think Evans WOULD be granted ‎bail soon." which is glaringly different from "I think Evans SHOULD be granted bail soon." The sentence your brain tricked your eyes to capture due to an apparent bias you harbour towards Chi. "WOULD" and "SHOULD" , though both are modal auxiliary verbs, they are very different in form, structure and usage.

By the way, there are more elegant and civilised ways of showing disapproval or difference in opinion, without necessarily coming off like a hood rat with hemorrhoid issues.‎ But then again, you are an acquired taste some people may appreciate. This blog "houses" a pot pourri of "unique" characters after all.

See what the chief's family member said about the release of those three. Are they not innocent until proven guilty? If the police have nothing on them and nothing in the warehouse is missing, why should they still be held? If you gift 40 people with cars, you think they'll go home and quietly continue living their lives? They won't share the news? Apart from watching Nollywood movies, do you bother to watch Hollywood movies to know there's such a thing as casing your target? We're the ones always saying so many are incarcerated wrongly but now that the police are allegedly fumbling their way through so as not to hold "innocent" peeps captive it's a problem? Now, police o why are you guys taking Evans to Abuja? The atmosphere there will make him more prone to confession? Isn't it time you start limiting vital information the public gets? Your investigations aren't done yet you're allowing him speak with journalists? I don't get it

My anger is why are they rushing to release them? why the rush? isn't Kidnap a grave offence? if it isn't, then we need to amend the Criminal Code and Penal Code immediately or better still create separate laws for kidnap... according to the IGP, theres immediate need for the establishment of special courts to address the cases of kidnapping.

According to him, the public feels that kidnappers are not being prosecuted enough so there is need to seek strict measure to punish them.

The Police has a way of charging you to court if they want you to suffer, they equally have a way of charging you with watery charges if they want you to be let off the hook. So the blame is on the police and not the magistrate. Most offenses are bailable save for a few which are not.

Mr Dunu is not a Pharmacist, He is just a trade and is using Pharm Emeka’s License to do Pharmaceutical Business. The other guy Kingsley has worked with him for over 5 Years and will get good pay off when he wants to leave the company. Some of the Staff he has given the Same Treatment before now are Pharmacist Olayitun and Pharmacist Dimgba that are of most recent, you can confirm this from Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria. He has over 15 Case in Police and Court with his formal Staffs, Boys and Business Associates. He even said it that he thought it was People that he had case with that came to Kill him as he has many Cases that he is involved with.
For All the Fake Journalist, that Will not find out the through Picture of things and only take Money and Report one sided Story, Shame on You. God has used the Capture of Evens to Expose the Wickedness of Mr. Dunu, His Wife and Other Colleagues of Pharm Emeka who are Jealous of his exploit in the Company and the Unprofessionalism of Majority of Nigerian Journalist who without getting Money from you will not carry your Story. As Mr Dunu rightly said Pharm Emeka Joined the Company as a Sales Rep and quickly rose to Superintendent Pharmacist in the Company. If he was bad as he is now claiming that he Started owing by not paying for Drugs He collected, how come he Promoted him so Fast. Secondly he said he heard Pharm Emeka asking his kidnappers where the Kept Him and he Mr Dunu looked and saw Pharm Emeka and Pharm Emeka Shrouded, if you are in the Same Place with someone will you be asking Where the Person is? The answer is No because you are with the Person. For Confused People who will be saying that one of Evens Gang Member that held Mr Dunu in Igando Camp is Emeka and Must be this Pharm Emeka, You are Wrong like Mr Dunu as I hear some people are already pleading that due to his state of mind he might have over heard the name Emeka and think it’s Pharm Emeka. Ike Emeka and Pharm Emeka Egbulugha is not the Same Persons.
God Answered the Prayer of His People, and will not let Innocent good Persons waste because of the Greed of one man and Jealousy of People He has helped in the Office. Pharm Emeka is a good Man who does not hesitate to give and help whoever he can help anywhere he finds himself and no one can take this away from Him. The Prayer of People of God demystified Evens and His Gangs and Vindicated Pharm Emeka, Bro Kingsley and Tochukwu and Exposed Mr Donatus Dunu for who he Truly is.
