South African Communities Give Nigerians Quit Notice

The Nigeria Union in South Africa on Wednesday accused two communities in that country of ordering Nigerians residing within their territories to leave.

The President of the union, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from Pretoria that the Kuruman community in Northern Cape Province gave Nigerians till Friday to leave.

Anyene also said that the Klaafontein community, Extension 5, Johannesburg, directed landlords not to renew the rent of Nigerians in the area.

He said that the grievance of the South Africans was that Nigerians were responsible for some social vices such as illicit drug trade and prostitution.

“The Nigeria Union held series of meetings with the affected communities as well as police and local authorities on the recent threats to Nigerians.

“We have also written reports on these incidents and sent to the Nigerian Mission and the South African police.

“We recommended interventions before the June 16 deadline to the mission and we are waiting for their response.

“The union is worried that any incident involving non South Africans are attributed to Nigerians,” he said.

Anyene said that a Ugandan male, who allegedly raped a girl in Kwazulu Natal Province, was described as a Nigerian in the media.

“The union believes that the Early Warning Unit set up by the Nigerian and South African governments is yet to be effective.

“ We are yet to have any meeting since the ministers of the two countries met.

“ Since then, there have been sustained media propaganda against our people here,” Anyene said.

    2. I just wish our country was a better place, my sis and hubby work there, he is a doctor and she's a lecturer, not all nigerians there are into crime, these South Africans have always looked for reasons to chase nigerians away, and I am sure with the disagreements within tribes have given the Southafricans the reason they have been looking for. Well, come home let's all put the country together

  21. Are Nigerians cursed? The international community don't want us, even our fellow Africans do not want us. We do not even want ourselves! Northerners chasing away Igbos from their territory and the Niger Deltans in retaliation giving them quit notice. It is a very wa something. God please restore this country to greatness again.

  22. Na real end time quit notice! God is watching. He should not vex and give everyone quit notice cos na there e go worse.

  23. I don't blame them we would do the same. Nigerians from a certain tribe which will be nameless are the drug lords feeding teenagers drugs. They are also the ringleaders of prostitution gangs and they settle the police regularly. In short they are a disgrace to the rest of us here. So they should sack them or kill them all. It is long overdue. It is shameful what some Nigerians are doing in SA especially in the provinces.

  24. Let them come back that way our leaders will be forced to think straight.
