The Lagos State Government at a press conference in Alausa on Tuesdaysaid the cases came like the typical diarrhoea and vomiting associated with cholera.
It added that the outbreak was due to the heavy rainfall being experienced and the aftermath of flooding in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, who was joined at the briefing by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, stated that the outbreak had been traced to the Somolu, Oshodi-Isolo, and Surulere local government areas.
He said, “Twenty-seven cases have been listed by our epidemiology/disease surveillance officers as of today, July 25, 2017. Two deaths were recorded from the 27 cases.”

ReplyDeleteThat picture of people walking through a street in surulere flooded with debris last Saturday came up.
I remember saying that if I was in the area I would not go into that water for ANY reason cos who knows what diseases would be lurking underneath and cholera came up in the discussion.
Over half the city was flooded and you're OMGing that cholera followed! Duh!

ReplyDeletePeople should avoid walking on flooded streets. Also, buy bottled water in bulk (not CWAY o) and store till the raining season ends. Also use bottled water to brush teeth. Or if using pure water, boil first.
