Delta Youths Call Out Gov Okowa For Non Payment Of Salaries

Delta State Youths under the aegis of Delta Youth Assembly (DYA), a socio-political preasure group comprising of all tribes in the state have called on the governor, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to as a matter of urgency pay the salaries of Local government emplyees in the state.

According to a statement signed by Comrade EZEKIEL ENEJETA, National Publicity Secretary OF DYA; the group laments the failure of the Okowa led state government in offsetting over fifteen months salary arrears local government owed workers in the state.

Reacting to the urgly situation, Comrade Gilor Kelly, national President of Delta Youths Assembly said Delta State occupies a key strategic position in the country which should stand as an example and model for other states of the country, but owing to the sufferings of Deltans as a result of non-payment of workers' salaries, the state is in a position of losing investments of multi-nationals.

"When the local government workers staged a protest last month, the response of the state government did not address the immediate problem of the masses, rather it layed the blame on the fact that the workforce of local government workers are too large and as a result salaries obligations could not be met, this is unacceptable, Comrade Gilor said"

Lamenting further on the sufferings of the local government workers, Comrade Gilor described as "dissapointing and inexcusable the reasons given by Jackson Ekwugum Manager of Communications of Government House why workers are not being paid for almost a year; a government that promised a SMART agenda but only end up giving exuses why it cannot pay salaries does not have the interest of the people at heart"

"We therefore call on the state government to make frantic efforts to alleviate the sufferings of the masses for peace to reign in the state, a hungry society only produces violence and there cannot be any meanful development without sustainable peace"

The Delta Youths Assembly is the umbrella body comprising of all youths from all quarters of the state poised with a vision of accountability in governance as well as maintaining peace by engaging Delta youths in meanful and productive engagements away from social vices.

EZEKIEL ENEJETA,
National Publicity Secretary, DYA,

  1. Nawah , this is appalling for an oil rich state like Delta. Why can't he pay salaries? High IGR and allocation meanwhile his neighbour Governor in Anambra (no oil, lesser allocation) has never failed to pay workers' salaries beyond 29th of every month since he assumed office. Okowa please pay up arrears, these people have families o, how do they survive? You were elected to work and move the state forward not this not to owe workers and drag Delta state backward. Please sit up.

  3. I wonder how these governors sleep at night, knowing fully well they are owing.
Federal government gave them money to offset all the backlog of salaries but they prefer to suffer innocent workers.
    God will judge them.
