Where are the Dokinta's in the house!

PREGNANT WITH MALARIA SYMPTOMS

Stella, you are doing a great job here.

Doctors in the house, please I need your advice.

I am pregnant, though about 7 weeks gone and I am having severe Malaria symptoms, I went to see a doctor at the hospital some days ago and he recommended only Fansidar and asked me to go and come back in 4 weeks, even though I told him antimalarials don't work for me once the Malaria is symptomatic,it only worsens it.

He insisted on no Malaria drugs for now.I have used it since then and I don't feel any better,I feel worse,I am only managing myself at the moment.

Am I supposed to continue this way?Don't doctors treat newly pregnant women for Malaria as I am confused?Kindly advice me please on which drugs to use.

  2. Malaria in pregnancy is very risky please. One, we're you tested? If no, get tested. If yes and confirmed to be malaria go back to a better doctor. I mean DOCTOR, not the pharmacy abi chemist near your house ooo. I was given anti biotics when I had it too very early in pregnancy.
Fansidar is not for treatment but PREVENTION. Don't joke with it please, malaria in pregnancy is deadly for both mom and the baby. You are healed.

  3. Go to another hospital,a general or a teaching hospital

  4. You can lose that baby. Yes, malaria is bad like that. Meanwhile, treating malaria before 13weekss is quite tricky. As most drugs ain't safe. Even fansidar. Most times, chloroquine is used until u reach 13weeks. Fansidar Is a preventive drug, ACT, is for treatment both after 13 weeks. Go to another hospital with a consultant obs.

  5. Heard malaria drugs are harmful to the foetus. You should have been placed on weekly anti malaria to prevent it's occurrence. Abeg go and see another doctor.

  8. U can take quinine 600mg three times daily for one week. Paracetamol, 2tablets 3times daily for 3 days. Note however that pregnancy mimics malaria symptoms so the fever, vomiting or whatever u feel may actually be only pregnancy. So do malaria test first before taking any drug. Cheers!

    1. I was going to type exactly this: Early pregnancy for women that suffer morning sickness mimic Malaria symptoms.
Have you ran another test and result shows you have malaria?

If you are basing your recovery on how you feel,dear.. it might just be Morning sickness dealing with you.
It feels like you are terribly ill and every other symptom that comes with malaria.

My advice to mothers especially the ones that plan their pregnancies is to treat malaria and any other underlying infection before taking in.

Wish you all the best poster, and never take drugs without a doctor's prescription.

  9. Madam morning sickness is ur problem which is normal with early pregnancy. It can come at any time of the day or even through out the day. U will get better after the first trimester but if u want a deformed baby continue looking for anti malaria to take, u hear

  10. He wants you to return in 4wks so you will be tested for hiv. 7+4=11-12 by then the window period will be over(for those infected).
He just wants to be sure of what's he's treating. Don't worry yourself much, you'd be fine.

In preventing malaria in pregnancy.you should be d one running along. Don't forget to take ur tail with u. Dim wit! Always forming I can't be wrong. It no longer looks ok.

  12. I had severe malaria at 12weeks and I used malaria drugs prescribed by the doctor not antimalaria drugs. Am still pregnant and bubbling by Gods grace. If the malaria isn't treated well, it might affect the foetus. Just go back and complain to the doctor and when given a drug, drink plenty of water with it. Don't want to mention d name of d drugs, I no want wahala but hey treated ASAP cos malaria has its effect on the foetus. Don't be afraid, use the drugs prayerfully.

  14. Had same problem some weeks ago, called my sister in-laws, who is a nurse, she asked I buy chloroquin, it's white and it's about 150 naira.,and I took it for 3 days and am OK and fine now.
My urine use to smell like hell, every morning. You can use the chloroquin from a week to 14weeks.

  16. Some malaria drugs are not good in early pregnancy

  17. You have seen a doctor and he gave you recommendations. If you are not satisfied with him for some reasons, go see another doctor either in the same hospital or else where.

While it is your right to cry out when in doubt, seeking for public prescription is definitely not the way to go, honestly. A pregnant woman with malaria in the first trimester is not to be toyed with.

    Some questions:
did you a test for malaria because you didn't indicate.
is this the same doctor that handles your antenatal care visits?

DO NOT take self prescriptions please. Go back to the doctor or find another.
Have a safe 9 months, God bless.

  18. I don't think you are using a good hospital. My Doctor gives me lumatem or combasunate whenever I'm pregnant and I have malaria and it really works well for me. My first and second baby are healthy ,no complications at all. Go and treat yourself before it affects your baby.

  19. You better believe your doctor, you can't take normal malaria drugs like when you weren't pregnant. You aren't even allowed to take all paracetamol.

    1. Different body system for each individual. I used it while I was 6months for my first baby and it never had any negative effect. I used the original malaria drugs at 13weeks as prescribed by the doctor and am almost mid term gone, yet my baby is kicking well by Gods grace. My advice to d poster is to visit a good doctor, get tested, though mine came out negative but I still requested for malaria drugs bcos av understood my body system. When u use the drug, drink plenty of water and eat fruits. Pls, treat ur malaria faster, Abeg.

    2. Madam, are you sure it was a doctor? You don't take fansidar at all until about 4 months. Go to a hospital and do a malaria test if it's positive then you see a doctor who most likely should prescribe a quinine based drug because it is the safest in pregnancy. GOOD LUCK

  21. Fansidar in 1st trimester?where did this doctor train?Fansidar is given after quickening which means after you have felt your baby's first movement. Some of the first trimester symptoms mimick that of malaria so only a positive malaria test should make you eligible for drugs, quinine is the drug of choice if not dont take anything

  22. Recent studies show artemisinin should replace quinine in 1st trimester ,so at 7 weeks if you have at least 2+ of malaria u can treat if not you can also do daily paludrine 100mg morning and night for 2 weeks
