Labour Room Drama 187

Oh No!!!

Hi Stella
This is not actually a sweet tale labour room drama but I thought I share so some expectant mothers can learn from it.
My pregnancy was really smooth asides for the first trimester occasional throwing up. I was fine all through.

No fat, no swollen face even my bump remained cute and I was glowing.

I took my antenatal visit seriously and I took my vitamins. At about 34weeks I noticed my baby's head diameter wasnt increasing neither was the weight. I would ask my doctor questions and most times he would dismiss it and say I read a lot of internet gibberish that I was just having a small baby. I was always dehydrated at some point and brought it to his notice too and he just said I drink more water. Being a well experienced doctor, I naively believed him and kept on counting down to meet my baby .

On a Monday at exactly 39weeks, I saw the show and I gladly carried my bag and went to clinic as I'd rather be there and be properly monitored than home. My labour didn't progress all through Monday and my husband kept on asking the doc, he said I wasnt in active labour yet.

Tuesday morning, contractions started and the painful checking beginning.. 10hours still 2cm. My husband kept pestering the doc he said all is fine as longer as my water as broken, baby is safe. 12am on wed, he did a membrane sweep, still no water but the contractions became intense and regular, still 2cm.

At 4am, my husband told the doc he wanted a CS done and after all said i was booked for CS.

AT 8am, Wednesday morning i was sectioned and my son was brought out, so tiny and he couldn't breathe. The paediatrician was called, she came and all restitutive method was done but he wasnt stable. Her diagnosis, Sever oligohyrdominos (low amniotic fluid ) due maternal dehydration which started in third trimester.

The baby had stopped growing and some point and there was no support for him in uterus. Baby died after five hours.

Prior to my experience, I have never heard anything about amniotic fluid. I just hope this help someone to really place a close watch on everything in pregnancy and don't listen to all doctors.

Always seek second opinion.
Thank you.
Safe delivery to all expecting mothers.

*So sorry babe!

    4. Madam, sue that stupid doctor. It's okay in Nigeria that professionals get away with misconduct or negligence!!! If you were abroad, they would have taken proper care of you.

Women, more than half of the time, our instincts are right. Don't take it for granted!

  24. so sorry about your loss dear,I am a doctor but i had oligohydramnous too, I had to do series of scans during the pregnancy. And on exactly my due date, I requested to be induced (couldn't take the risk of waiting for labour to start, plus his gestational age kept reducing with each scan, meaning he was getting growth restricted), when my baby was born he was so small, his skin was dry and peeling off.... but I thank God for everything,my boy is 6 months now.... it is well poster, God will give you beauty for ashes in Jesus name.

  26. I suffered a loss too early this year. All was going on well until my 7th month when i saw a rush of water which eventually stopped so i thought it was urine not knowing my water broke. A few days later I suffered abdominal pains which forced me to head to the hospital but on getting there I wasn't attended to on time for hours, I eventually gave birth to a premature baby and a few days later i lost my handsome child. I have learnt a lot, one of which is to never watch demons disguised as medical practitioners to toil with my life and that of my family. The don't care about you, therefore, don't be lenient with them, apply wisdom though but shout on them when you ought to. Also, like the lady said in her story make sure you don't trust them totally, seek for other counsel from other doctors, it may cost you cash but my people in the end it is worth it. It took me courage/trusting in the Lord and my husband's effort to overcome that challenging time. Thank God my sanity was restored.

  30. Doctors do not know all,I repeat Doctors do not know all, never leave your pregnancy totally with one Doctor, no matter how experienced, baby center, what to expect and ovia are great pregnancy resource apps.trust your instincts, research every question before calling/ seeing Doctor. That is how one Doctor in the US here almost killed me. do your best and just know, sometimes bad shit just happens. Sorry for your loss dear.

  31. The most important thing is what is the name of the doctor? Did you report his hospital? Please save other pregnant women from this lazy and incompetent serial killer...abeg, supply the name.
