The government has served another 48 hours ‘Abatement Notice’, Tuesday, 25th to Thursday, 27th of July, 2017, to all owners of illegal structures and shanties including containerised shops around Obalende to remove them immediately or face demolition and prosecution.
Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force Superintendent of Police, Olayinka Egbeyemi disclosed that the illegal structures and shanties including containerised shops were directly constructed right on water channels thereby, blocking free flow of water through drainage and canals around Obalende with resultant floods whenever it rains.
He had disclosed that the initial 6-month notice from the government expired recently but the law permitted this new 48 hours ‘Abatement Notice’ to be served before any demolition.
The Chairman stated that perennial flooding experiencing in some parts of the State were not natural but a ‘Man-Made Disaster’ due to carelessness of residents who are fond of dumping refuse and used tyres into both secondary / primary water channels (canals and drainages).

ReplyDeleteWhen you vote for a government where backup plan and welfare is zero upon this Apc economy where mass hunger and unemployment have come to stay.If they couldn't leave after six months, it means there was no space any where. Why will they trade their children livelihood for stubbornness?
ReplyDeleteWhy would government relocate people who built illegal structures on gutters and drains obstructing and blocking flow of water. Was it the government who put them there in the first place. Some people can ask stupid questions.

ReplyDeleteThe govt is cause of the flood. That olubirin estate which was sand filled just before obalende opposite adeniji adele has stopped the free flowing of water from canal to the bigger and open water.
