Lecturer Sacked For Collecting Money To Clear Carry-Overs

A lecturer found to have collected money to clear students with carry-overs in some courses has been sacked by College of Education, Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The College Provost, Dr. Rebecca Umaru, yesterday in Akwanga disclosed that the lecturer, Paul Madela, who is the institution’s examination officer, extorted money from students that had failed some courses and were expected to carry them over.

The Governing Council of the college approved his sack when a committee set up to investigate the allegation found him culpable,” Umaru said.

Umaru said that two other lecturers, Musa Agwadu and Ibrahim Shakaro, were also being investigated for diverting registration money they allegedly collected from students.

“If the two lecturers are found guilty, we shall apply appropriate sanctions in line with the law,” she said.

Umaru also dismissed reports that one of her deputies slapped a student in an examination hall.

“A student was asked to leave the examination hall for not paying registration fees and therefore not obtaining an examination card.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, the student is a victim of extortion by one of the lecturers under investigation. The lecturer is accused of diverting registration money he collected from the said student.

“The situation actually created tension in the college and even forced management to suspend the ongoing examinations. But no one was slapped or beaten,” he said

    1. It's good he actually became a scapegoat so others will learn. Some of these lecturers intentionally give students carry-over just to estort money from them, so good for him.

  3. This one must have "chop alone" and so he's "dying alone". Is it not Nigerian schools again? If there's a rumour that a student was slapped, best believe it happened. It is well with this nation

  4. lol, I remember then in school, we had to take a course as elective from another department. after attending lectures, reading our eyes out and writing the exam, the lecturer called me to tell me that if we have the hopes passing we all should pay him #5000 each, 20 students in my class took that course, so do the maths. the funniest thing is that the most believing believer in my class was the first to pay, she no remember God for that one.
