Maria Ude Nwachi Intervenes In Case of the 70-Year-Old Widow Disgraced And Paraded With 30-year-Old Lover

Remember the widow who was caught grinding with her younger lover in the sack by her grand daughter who reported her?The 70 year old woman was disgraced and paraded with her younger lover but there was an outcry and Maria Ude Nwachi, a member of the Ebonyi state House of Assembly intervened in the case....

The Judgement goes thus

“Parading of people unacceptable – Essa Ehugbo.
The member representing Afikpo North East in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mrs Maria Ude Nwachi (Afikpo Chic), on the 22nd July 2017, complained to Essa Traditional Council of Ehugho, the highest decision making body in Ehugbo (Afikpo), about a 70 year old widow, accused of sleeping with a man in her late husband’s home at Amuzu Nkpogoro, Afikpo, and paraded with the man round the villages; with youths chanting disgraceful songs behind them, thereby creating a scene which attracted condemnation from several quarters, describing such as obnoxious, uncivilized, and other adjectives.

Following the report, the Ekpuke Essa Traditional ruling body on 26 July 2017 at Ulubi Eke Ehugbo deliberated on the matter and stated that the normal thing as Ehugbo tradition demands is that the culprit is liable to atone her misdeed with a goat. The above process, the Essa said is the tradition and not the dehumanising act of parading the culprit.

They also advised widows cannot hold themselves, they should re- marry or alternatively pack out from their late husband house.

THEY CONCLUDED THAT - No community should parade anyone again and if they ever do, they would be fined N100,000 and another fine of N5000 will be given again to every one in the community who allowed such act. They stated the act of the said community is not acceptable. They frowned at the bad public image the incident gave the town of Afikpo.”

*I am so happy with this report,This woman had every right to gbensh!

Later, they will come to Lagos and start making mouth.

Why will the widow pack out? So she should leave her house because she wants to have a lover. Will they say such if it's a man. That grand child that reported them self is very disrespectful.

This woman is old. So how will she remarry even if she wanted? In this kind of community? I don't even understand again.

Bush backwards illiterates. In my country a 70 year old woman that is still fucking is actually a very good thing.
Good sex at that age keeps the mind, body and soul young but these fools lack knowledge and understanding.
As they wonder why we call them stupid and ignorant.

Obviously you and I are literate and reside in big cities but tradition is tradition for those who reside in rural areas.

It says women who cannot hold themselves should remarry and leave the dead Hubby's house.

In most rural communities, a late mans property is taken over by his kinsmen.

So the issue of leaving a house for her doesn't arise.

In conclusion, the moral question is "should one bring in a young lover into her late husbands house with kinsmen watching closely?"

Answer is no.

Catch your grandmother in such act first in company of your friends and tell he how you think you would feel.

I am against public shaming and jungle justice

Total nonsense. So because she is a widow, her sex life too is supposed to be dead ba! They should allow yer live her life. This country is just backwards.

Shut up.

Why would a woman even want to marry in some of these places to begin with? Her husband is already dead and the house is still considered his even in the grave. She must remarry at 70if she wants to have sex..uh? Basically, she doesn't own the house, and not even the body she has lived in for 70yrs she owns either. What a culture. To be born some places as a woman in this world is something else.

Thats why its good to respect yourself every time even in private. If you respect yourself no one will have any opportunity to disrespect you. But if you carry on with the attitude that it is a free world and you can have sex with whoever then be prepared to bear the consequences. As you grow older you should act in ways that people will revere you. If not be prepared to eat sand

Hadey halaba, are you a widow? No then keep kwayet

Thank you oh, chidinma grace, if it was the woman who built the house with her sweat and she dies and the man is left with the house ,will the community tell him to pack out of the house because he wants to remarry? Not everyone has the grace to be celibate in the event of sudden death of ones spouse.

I tire oh. I'm from Anambra and it's an open secret that when a man dies, some men that came to mourn him also compete to woo his wife too. We all know which widow is gbenshing who. They always sneak in and out and it's usually a village gossip, lol. But if you're of child bearing age and got pregnant while still in mourning that is still wearing morning cloth, you will pay a fine. Have seen it happen.after morning, you can have a child in your late husband's house and the child will still bear his name.
