Obasanjo Blasts Nnamdi Kanu-Says No Sane Person Will Seek Nigeria's Split

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticised Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafra agitators insisting that the country will never break up.

Obasanjo, who spoke on Friday at Effurun, Delta State, said “Will any person in his right senses believe that the way out of our problems in Nigeria is separation? We have past that stage. We have many problems if we can talk about them and we must talk about them. We must find solution to them.”

He had visited the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1 and the Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli.

Recall that IPOB had accused the former President of plotting to assassinate Kanu and overthrow the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

OBJ in his remarks said: “I have always said there is nothing wrong with Nigeria but there is a lot wrong with Nigerians. And what we need to do is to correct what is wrong with Nigerians. Some of us have to speak up. If things are wrong and you refuse to speak out you become an accomplice. Somebody is wrong I took him up.

“We have to say this is not good enough and when we say this is not good enough we have to offer something greater than what is not good enough. There are a lot of things that are good than what is not good enough.

“Definitely, dismemberment of Nigeria is not good enough. I think harmony and cohesion is what we should substitute for dismemberment. Injustice, lack of fairness and impunity are not good enough.

“As I watch the dances, the culture and tradition, I shake my head. And I say it is indeed diversification that made us who we are- a great country. I don’t want to have a Nigeria of sameness where we all will be dancing Akpala or the same juju.

“The beauty of Nigeria is in our diversity. The greatness of Nigeria is in diversity of our different languages. In spite of our difficulty, your majesty, progress is being made.

“We have problems but in spite of our difficulty some progress are being made but we still have to make great progress. We need to make great progress than we have made, and we can do that.

“If we do that and we have good governance, no impunity, there is justice, there is equity and we make everybody to have a sense of belonging and a stake in this project Nigeria I believe we will get there sooner than we should have.”

“I participated in the civil war and I said may I never have to participate in any civil war again in my life. It was gruesome. It was destructive. It was deadly. This is most especially for those are clamouring (of which I don’t even know what they are clamouring) they don’t know what war means. They don’t.”

    3. May thunder tear that Obasanjo nose further. Obj is a shameless old fool. Probably the most corrupt Nigerian after that idiot Babangida. Somebody who's supposed to be shot or in jail is here talking about war. Biafrans don't want war. They're only asking for a referendum asshole.

    4. The old pedophile called Obasanjo did not say anything about fulani herdsmen, the Arewa youths that want Igbos out of Nigeria. He didn't say anything about Igbos being marginalized, 95%-5%, second Niger bridge, military invasion of Igboland and police/miltary extortion of Igbos on the highways. Why should the SE/SS have to travel to Lagos to clear their goods etc. He's only talking about war. I wish him the most painful death for the evil he's caused Nigeria. He will never know peace. Amen.

  2. Are you just waking up from your slumber? Obasanjo, you are not in any position to tell BIAFRANS what they want. You mean you people all know the importance of Ndigbo/BIAFRANS in Nigeria yet you treat us like a piece of rag. Look at the way the ZOO is frightening and panicking over BIAFRAn freedom. Wow! Wow!! BIAFRANS are indeed the SALT and beauty of the Nigeria. All hail Biafra!!

  4. Obj is becoming unhinged for no reason: if Obj is not clear on what Kanu's IPOB is asking from the federal govt, then he needs to go to school about it. Why, the twisting of events and hypocrisy by a so-called elder statesman? How about Obj showing the nation the arrest of the Arewa Youths who arrogantly issued a quit notice on the Igbos? What informs Obj Naija is sacrosanct when before our eyes we saw the split of the former Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Brexit, to list a few? Why would Obj lead the delegation that signed the U.N and African Union Charters on a peoples right to self determination and yet, renege on its actual implementation? The Bakassi indigenous peoples that Obj gave to Cameroon on a platter of gold wanted to remain in their ancestral homelands in Nigeria but Obj denied them their rights. Can Obj really claim he has the interest of Nigeria at heart after such betrayal and debauchery? QED@atm

  12. That's where they get it wrong. Nobody is calling for a civil war. Which dance? There is diversity in even the minutest homogeneous society. My people don't dance atilogu, but we are Igbos. Our food and dialect differ so don't talk to me about diversity because that ship has sailed long ago. Talk to me about equity and fairness. One Nigeria my left a*se. Comments here will tell you there is nothing one about Nigeria. A referendum will tell us whether or not to move on and 'dead' this matter forever or in 50 years time, another agitation will start. Before you talk to me about being tribalistic, try and live in all parts of Nigeria. Try and have the number of Hausa friends I have. Try and speak and write Hausa the way I do and understand a number of Nigerian languages without speaking them just try. I never used to like Nnamdi Kanu, I still don't really, it is not about Nnamdi Kanu anymore. Igbos are not the most marginalized if truth be told I know but one has got to take their own destiny into their own hands. (Is that sentence even correct?).

  17. Is OBJ now saying Catalonians are in sane for trying to break away from Spain? Or other regions seeking away from their current nations in the world? Or was Nigeria in sane from breaking away from British? was there war when Nigeria got her independence? The fact remains that everybody has that very right to seek session... OBJ is part of the problems Nigeria is facing today . It's a man who's in sane that will think Nigeria is still one

  18. Let's not give this corrupt leaders/thieves a chance to always lie and twist national issues to suit their ways. Nnamdi Kanu has never called for war,he's only calling for referendum which in no way relates to war. Every tribe or region in any part of the world has a right to self determination. Leaders like OBJ has the opportunity to make this heaven on earth but instead they chose to loot and milk the country dry. It's high time the young men of this country take their destinies in their hands and fight these thieves that called themselves leaders to a stand still. They only want one Nigeria in order for them to continue in their loot and embezzlement. Let's be wise this time

  19. As far as I am not a fan of Kanu and a great lover of Objects, I must say he lied on this one. When the igbos are marginalised what do u expect? Our main problem is actually our lingua and cultural diversity .

Instead of him as an elder state man to talk about the restructuring of Nigeria as a federal state. If there's true federalism in Nigeria. No region will marginalised and no region will be clamouring for separation.

And I am of the opinion that Kanu has not stated his agenda clearly enough. If his agenda is stated clearly enough it will ( better. If he's clamouring for war then he's not wiser enough. He should study ojukwu's method (war) which never achieve anything and look for an alternative method to achieve it. Because time has changed. During ojukwu'd time, not many where educated but now... and moreover, for that to be achieved, are top igbos behind him on this? or is this just a battle he's pulling by and for himself. If u are fighting for your people and some are not with u or some you think are with u are with you cos of selfish reasons. You might end up getting burnt and your intentions if good will not be achieved.

  20. People like OBJ, IBB, and their likes should not give their opinion on how and what Nigeria want. These are the people who had the opportunity of putting things right, bringing equality, using the oil to build the country, institute accountability in civil service, rather than 'chop I chop' policy. Obasanjo was the President when oil was discovered in Nigeria, what did he do? FESTAC 77, where Africans came and danced, wined, dined and he married Stella adding to his fleet of wives. Obasanjo headed a battalion that massacred the people of south east and some parts of south south during the war. He has been around when all the most corrupt governments have looted Nigeria dry, yet he did nothing, he has been hearing of Fulani herdsmen and their attrocoties, but he has been mute about it, being somebody that likes to talk on national matters, he hasn't. God bless gov Fayose who put them in their position in Ekiti state. Now Obasanjo is carrying this Biafra issue on his head why? How does it affect him? Does he have anything to lose if Biafra breaks away or his evalasting interest in some areas of the economy will be threatened or he's just being nosy and hateful? He should go and rest and be a good statesman like Alex Ekwueme and Gowon. Obasanjo is too nosy and almost like a busy body. His romance with Buhari ended when Buhari told him that his government was a very corrupt one, he now started criticizing Buhari, but at first, as a busy body former righteous president, he did not see any thing wrong in Buhari's lopsided appointments, he did not say anything about Buhari side line of the south east and south south, now he's telling us about war. Okay Mr. know all, have you told us how to make it right so that every facet of the country will be okay since you don't want war? Or are you suggesting that we leave it the way it is and continue with the marginalization of some parts of the country? War, war, war I'm hearing is only coming from from people like Obasanjo, I've not heard war from Nnamdi Kanu. Obasanjo sir, please keep your peace, you have never liked the Igbo people and will ever be in any position to look for their interest. Leave us alone to fight for our right and allow us fail in it. For you and your likes drumming war, all I have to tell you is they that kill by the gun, shall die by the gun. They that kill by the knife shall die by the knife. Say yes to Biafra and no to war. Stella if you like use this comment for keto.
