  2. Well this will work for someone fresh from school with no experience. They can learn from this

Not someone who has had a job before, lost it and has soo much financial responsibilities " working for free is not an option".

  5. Currently doing this. As an unofficial assistant producer, I am always the first to arrive on our production day(7am). "Broomstick, go and get paper" "yes ma/sir". "Broomstick, I want you covering/monitoring so and so event, although there isn't going to be any monies given" "yes ma/sir". The exposure I'm getting and the contacts I'm making plus the knowledge I'm gaining is priceless. This is the same job I rejected 3yrs ago cos I was to get nothing. Last year, I had to go back and apply with plenty pleading sef. I know what my goal is and will continue until the point where I can reach out to grab it. Let's heed the advice given above. You'll be surprised what comes thereof. BTW, I had stopped receiving proposals from men for a while but now, the proposals(asking out o not marriage) are rolling in and I'm having a ball

  6. Do what you can do. That it worked for her doesn't mean it will work for another. Good write up though.

  7. So inspiring. I started doing internships with no pay at age 16. My dad was always quick to tell me I was moving faster than my shadow. I'm 21 and I know the experience I have gained from working in different organisations. I even applied to organisations that were not relating to my course of study. Where I am right now my boss keeps telling me you are unemployable cause at a young age you have work experience than people who are older than you. I have said it to myself daily that my children will start getting work experience at an early age not for the money but the exposure and experience. Youths of nowadays need to learn that it's not until they leave school that they should start looking for jobs but what do you use your little holidays to get. It's not about partying or going to the mall.

  9. Stella, I wish many young ppl today would read and digest this. Hubby and I run a company and so far, many ppl we have interviewed are so money conscious. After stating what we had to offer seeing that he was still a 200level student, he asked to take his leave. Little did he know that we were ready to train and keep him. All we just wanted to see was his commitment in a month. He asked for what some graduates are given but that wasn't the issue. If only he knew the complete package before walking out.

    1. Exactly. Doing this where you are not only being used but abused would not gel. Truth is she did her best in a good environment.

    2. If a person works hard in a bad environment they would have gained enough experience to apply to a better company where their effort will be valued. The problem is their CV probably won't even be well written to show their capability

  12. Motivational page. Thumbs up.

My first job was before NYSC as an Executive Assistant. Big shoe but i walked it. Armed with a certificate in "Computer Appreciation". I was guru in Microsoft Office Suites. Kikiki. That was what was reigning then. Then with some good languages.

Kai. The pay was boku o. I don't know about working free. Noooo na. Though I travelled a lot with OgaMadam and closed very late.

Humble early beginnings is with it. I implore the young to get it if your family can cover the T-fare.

  13. I mentioned internship here once and ignoramus came for me - as usual. Saying i was insensitive and i don't know what it means to be penniless. Okay. Will sitting at home bring money? If only we know the opportunities that we come across by just putting ourselves out there. Ignorance won't get you a job. It's better you go somewhere and apply yourself everyday than sit and wait while your knowledge rusts away. When they now see the babe with huge paycheck they will say its runs or daddy's money or she's sleeping with the boss that's why she got promoted.
