Catholic Church Explains Why They Can’t Vet Donations From Worshippers

The Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, on Saturday, said it was impossible for the church to vet donations made by individuals......

The Director of Communications of the archdiocese, Fr. George Nwachukwu, said that it would amount to an effort in futility if the church begins to screen donations made to the archdiocese by worshippers.

He said, “We are not vetting donations to the archdiocese. The people are many. We have politicians and other people making donations. It will be very difficult to vet them.”

Asked if the church would return any donation if it realises that the source of the money was not genuine, Nwachukwu said only the apex leadership of the church could respond to that.

The cleric, however, said that the diocese was more interested in winning souls for God.

“Donation is secondary. What is primary is winning souls for the kingdom of God. Structures and infrastructure are not ultimate and as such, the archdiocese is more concerned with winning souls,” he added.

  2. #Yimmu... the church should go back and read Matthew see what Jesus was about, then move on to acts see what the early church was about. Read the epistles of Paul see what Christianity is all about. All I see today's church about is money and building magnificent structures. Why will they want to vet the money receive... God help us in Ds era

Since time immemorial church altars have been over flowing with blood money!
Drug dealers, ritualists & 419 barons loves to spend blood money in the churches in order to whitewash their sins.

  9. Catholic, my Catholic. I disagree on this one O. A donation as huge as building a church should be vetted in my opinion.

What if when the accused gave the donation and the church carried out a thorough investigation on the source of his income; and the donation turned down? Those lives would not have been wasted.

The whole congregation/town cannot be ignorant of such donor's source of income if truly illegitimate.

We the society aided and abated this crime - from the villagers/laity who knew but chose to ignore, to the clergy who refused to ask questions, to our leaders who have chosen to celebrate any type of wealth and to our get rich any way or die trying kinsmen.

The society should start celebrating and promoting sincerity, hardwork and other chivalric codes.
