Governor Ambode Gifts N5 million To Widow Of A Man Who Blew Whistle On Kidnappers

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has donated N5 million to the widow and children of Osaze Omorogbe, a community leader killed and burnt by kidnappers for leading security agents to foil their operation.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan, who presented the cheque to the family on behalf of the governor at a ceremony at the family’s residence in Isawo, Ikorodu, praised the deceased for his heroic role.

Mr. Bamigbetan was received by the Chairman of the Community Development Association, Ahmed Yusuf.

Reading the condolence message personally signed by the governor, the Special Adviser said the late Mr. Omoregbe paid the supreme sacrifice while responding to the government’s charge to community development associations to support its effort to rid the state of kidnappers.

Part of the condolence message read, “It is with deep grief that I share your sorrow on the unfortunate death of your father, husband and breadwinner, Mr. Osaze Omoregbe.

“At a time our administration is consolidating partnership with our communities and their courageous and committed leaders, your benefactor stood up to be counted. He supported the forces of light seeking to crush the notorious kidnappers who had turned your neighbourhood into a jungle of death. In that patriotic response to our call to join hands and collectively secure our communities, he paid the supreme price.”

Receiving the cheque, the widow, Omodunni Omoregbe, who was short of words, broke into tears.

Speaking on behalf of the LCDA, the chairperson, Jumoke Ademehin-Jumbo, thanked the Lagos State Government for coming to the rescue of the family.

Mr. Bamigbetan, who led a delegation including the Senior Special Assistant on Community Affairs, Tajudeen Quadri; the chairperson of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, Jumoke Ademehin-Jumbo; the chairperson of the Community Development Committee, K.A. Damole and their teams, prayed at the graveside of the deceased.

The deceased is survived by his wife, and two children, Adesuwa and Osaze.

The late Omoregbe, who led the security committee of the Olorunsogo Community Development Association, had alerted the police on hearing heavy bullet shots of kidnappers seeking to capture a victim.

On arrival, the police and soldiers asked him to lead them to the area. All of them were ambushed by the kidnappers and killed.

  2. Really a pity stella my sister.
The government could do more; give the kids scholarships through high school and at least through collage for one they can employ. It is will go farther to relieve them than this 5m.

  4. Barracudianusaurusunamon - Hi, guys, it's me again.

It is indeed unfortunate that he had to die unnecessarily, the incapable police caused the demise of the poor man, he is not a force man, just a neighborhood vigilante, all they would have done was seek direction and they investigate, well, unfortunately, they went unprepared and were mauled by these heartless kidnappers. No amount of money can bring him back, but this is clear discrepancy of the incapable policing in Nigeria.

I wish the Family left by him goodluck and happy spending. He was indeed a hero, "P-Tragic Flaw".

    cheers.

  5. 5million is too small in exchange for his life. See the children through school with school fees and upkeep scholarship. Paid into a fund upfront administered by an administration fund. That's what makes sense. 5million will do nothing much.

    1. It's something and s challenge to other people, company and agencies to give to the family. Maybe a gofund account should be opened for them

    2. The problems with Nigerians is that they tend to always see their cup half empty instead of half full. If ambode did not give, they wud complain, he gave, they complained. It can afford her to start a trading business that she can use to send her kids to say public schools where fees a relatively cheap. It's left to the widow to spend wisely..

  12. So, the man was truly born alive? There shall be no peace for kidnappers and their sympathisers.

What will 5million naira do for the woman, especially her children.
They should have added scholarship program to the cheque.
