Strange Disease That Killed ‘62’ In Kogi Has Been Identified

The Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Saka Audu, has said that the alleged unknown disease has been diagnosed to be gastroenteritis.

He, therefore, called for calmness.

The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lokoja that those so far diagnosed were found to be suffering from gastroenteritis and malaria.

“Out of the six that were admitted, three of them were diagnosed of gastroenteritis and the remaining three were just cases of malaria, and they have shown remarkable signs of improvement,” Audu said.

He also stressed that the disease was not Lassa fever, saying the result of samples taken from the patients to Irua General Hospital in Edo State for investigation proved negative.

“We want to assure the general public that government is doing all that is humanly possible to stay on top of the situation and forestall further loss of lives.
“We will continue to inform the public as the investigation progresses,” Mr. Audu said.

  1. It is a shame what kills people in Nigeria.
Gastroenteritis is just simple bacteria diarrhoea with vomiting as in this case. The dreaded bacteria in this regard is cholera in which a person can pass away in a matter of minutes while defecating large volumes of watery fluids.
There are two culprits here; eating sour meals and lack of health facilities.
Sour meals is due to "Nepa; thus government" and poor health facilities is due to government.
Shame on the politrictians that siphon our common wealth and run abroad for treatment. In the end, about 70 poor rats dies and "Nigeria is not mourning". If it were in a plane crash that half of that died, "NIGERIA MOURNS" will be on every news media.
    Shame of a nation!
Shame on the National and state assemblies!
    Shame on the presidency.
Our folks are not supposed to be dying in droves like this!

    1. If they called it cholera, it would have been "an epidemic due to lack of water supply" or fecal contamination of water.
The man even reported it poorly. What form of gastroenteritis; bacterial or viral?
Ineptitude is the bane of the Nigerian office holders who carry Ghana must go around.
Oh what a shame that gastroenteritis is still killing people in droves in Nigeria.
Even Boko haram bombs do not kill as much as our corrupt politicians kill!

  2. Please I am a doctor and I know that "gastroenteritis" is not a strange disease.
It is the Nigerian health system that is strange.
Stranger still is our inept government!

He is not even ashamed to announce that?

  4. Please folks;
Malaria is caused by mosquitoes bites.
Gastroenteritis is cause chiefly by stale meals.
These are very preventable ailments that shouldn't be killing people in the 21st century.
Shouldn't this health commissioner be arrested for dereliction of duty and betraying his citizens?
