Sunday In House Gists - Wedding Dresses And The Colors...

Who started the white dress for white wedding?

There is this perceived notion that white gown is synonymous with weddings, a custom that is often assumed to be a nod to old-school values of purity and chastity.

Is there anywhere it was stated in the Bible that Wedding dress should be white?
Ladies will you Rock another colour other than White?

I would re-rock a red wedding dress anyday anytime oh!

What is your view on this?

I'd totally rock a black wedding dress. No it's not biblical, it originated from Britain after Queen Victoria wore a white dress at her wedding. Borrowed culture is what we practice mostly.

People do it as a prototype of the bride of the Lord, as described in the Bible . Spotless and without blemish.

The word, bride connotes purity and glory and undefiled hence white leading to a white wedding gown..lolz but as of today, it has been barstardized.

I think it started with queen Victoria. The royals used to wear blue dresses but she opted for white and it soon became a trend. I may be wrong but I read that a very long time ago.

I like black a lot
It compliments my complexion

Black wedding dress is a YAY for me
Maybe I would rock a white wedding dress to the church then change into a black dress for reception.

Wearing white is not a must.
Just another white man invention.

'Say Yes To The Dress' was a programme I spent a lot of time watching those days.

I saw all sorts of wedding gowns with very resolute brides too.
Black,Red...Short,Long. Gothic,Grecian etc
I realised that individuals have different choices. Doesn't have to be a trend for some people, they just express themselves through their choice of a wedding gown.

I've always liked being different so I wore a champagne/beige wedding dress for my wedding. Buying matching accessories like my veil, gloves etc was so difficult because every bridal shop(and I went to aaaalottt) I tried had white, that I had to order and a friend flew them in for me. But the stress was worth it.

The Bible didn't say we should wear white wedding dress. We borrowed the culture from the whites.

My favourite colours are white and black. For my wedding dress, it's white. As for my aso -ebi, it's going to be black. I don't care what anybody thinks.

Then my after-party dress will be black.

I remember a lady wanting a black wedding dress... Her mum disagreed vehemently. She eventually got black ankara foe her closest friends asoebi. She died before her wedding day. The black was worn by her friends at her funeral. God forbid bad thing. Black denotes mourning.

White is for purity, either it is borrowed or not it is a sign of purity a day the Bible support not defiling our marriage bed so it is logical to accept white for me.

ukwu dimond said...

It was not stated but we human being decided to make it white since white color represent purity, but a lot of people has really abused the use of white wedding gown. If I have my way to re-rock wedding dress I will also go for red wedding gown, I love red colors to the moon.

I rocked a peach colored dress, grecian design. What I've always wished for.

Broomstick said...

It's actually the orange blossoms in the bouquet that signifies an undefiled bride.

Broomstick said...

Paddy mi unto the black levels. I only recently started wearing bright colors cos the complaints were just too much

Broomstick said...

LMAO. Kanda brown nko?

Ada Aguiyi said...

Nothing else but white please.

Broomstick said...

I have already readied my mum for any colour I choose to wear. When I told her recently that I'm definitely not wearing white, she started voicing her disapproval but stopped midway. She said I've always said I wasn't wearing white but she thought it was a phase that would pass. Black's my favourite color but as I'm neither Spanish nor Catholic, ain't wearing that. I'm leaning towards Blue or Burgundy. Me and my spirit never free which one yet lol. A purple gown that is free of frills could be cute too. Lemme ask Google.
Please o, white doesn't signify chaste or undefiled. As a color(neutral color), it signifies purity not cos of anything but because it abhors stains. What signifies being undefiled/chaste/virgin is the orange blossoms used in bouquets.

Jasmine said...

Gold? As in gold? Ok o

Fine Country said...

If white is royalty,purple is???

Jasmine said...

White is used also for mourning.

Doppelgänger said...

Yemi7up, reading up on things instead of assuming doesn't kill you know. Blue was considered the color for purity not white. White and black were considered for mourning. Read up please.

Jasmine said...

Lol. Stick to your black jor.

Most of my polo's are black and a few white.

Then my gowns r black.

My mum is even tired of complaining.

Jasmine said...

Purple is poverty. Hahahahahaha.

Leave emjay biko

Jasmine said...

Queen Victoria started the white wedding dress. It's not a religion thing but rather she decided to wear a different colour for her wedding and a new trend started. The idea of you being a Virgin ti wear white is also attached to Queen Victoria of England as she was a Virgin when she married.

jelly said...

White or cream no way for black or red

I love that show. I am definitely rocking a black reception dress
