Police React As Soldiers Allegedly ‘Storm’ Nnamdi Kanu’s Residence

Two conflicting accounts have emerged about the incident that played out at the home of separatist leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Abia State on Sunday.

While Mr. Kanu said the soldiers stormed his residence and injured occupants in an attempt to take his life; the police said military personnel were only carrying out a procession to test a new armoured carrier.

According to Abia Police commissioner, Leye Oyebade ,There was no attack on the home of Nnamdi Kanu.

What happened was that the military was parading a new armoured carrier and passed through Nnamdi Kanu’s residence. It was while they were passing that some people threw stones and other things at them,” Mr. Oyebade explained.

The police chief said normalcy has been restored and no life was lost during the minor skirmish and Mr. Kanu was neither targeted nor arrested.

But Mr. Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had painted a different account of what transpired at the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, saying there was a siege.

In a statement Mr. Ejiofor accused the Buhari administration of attempting to take his client’s life.

“Just to alert the world that the Nigeria military personnel under the command of Chief of Army Staff is presently laying a siege on my client (Nnamdi Kanu) country home in umuahia.

“They had continued to shot sporadically into the air through which assault, about five of his family members were brutally wounded and some unfortunately killed. There is no doubt that the present deployment of troops to the South East is to haunt for my client and possibly eliminate him,” the statement said.

“Let the whole world know that if anything untoward happen to my client, that President Buhari and his Chief of Army Staff should be held responsible by the international Community.
We are presently counting the number of casualties as the onslaught progress. The world should be immediately notified about the tension in Biafra land, created by the government in power. We must adopt all know legal mechanism to resist the unconstitutional but violent approach in dealing with unarmed people merely operating within the confines of law. Buhari must be held responsible".

The Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, did not respond to calls to seek the Army’s official reaction to the incident.

    1. I don't care who is saying the truth. My point is Nnamdi is somewhere hale and hearty and one idiot just took in some bullets on his behalf. Of course he will never visit him in the hospital nor give him a dime for treatment. Why didn't his father or brothers come out to fight for him? You people will not make use of your brain. Biafra will not happen at least not until there is an Igbo president and by then, Niger delta will be a republic so they oil you people are looking for, you won't even partake in it.

    2. Sharap anon 10:19, who told you we are looking for oil? You Yorubas won't let us be. If you know the history and geography of Nigeria very well, you'll know that Imo and Abia states are oil producing states. Mumu like you will be writing rubbish, read, you won't read. Biafra probably want some parts of Delta because Biafra is almost like a land lock country that needs some get way out of the country without having to go through Nigeria.

  2. Can they test the armour tank elsewhre? Are such tests supposed to be carried out whrre people live? Im not a fan of Nnamdi nor all he stands for but abeg, i dont need any form of unrest. The country is already too tensed. If you wanna arrest him, feel free but "testing"? i think there should be rsered places (freezones) for that To avoid casualties or panic

    1. Nigerian Army can show force anywhere within the territory of the country and won't change things because one nuisance is living within the radius.

  3. South East a war zoon? Why taking amoure tank to his environment at the first place, didn't they test it before the military personel command their men to take the tank to South East? Why Nigeria govt like looking for trouble everyday? I don't Support IPOB but killing of innocent citizens will not solve any Nig. problem.

  8. I do not support Biafra one bit! I also do not support the Nigerian army's stunt. I hope they have stationed more men to guard travelers passing through to Akwa Ibom and Cross River. No point agitating the IPOBians only to have travelers suffer. I heard a story last week of how an AKTC bus was being hit by cutlass while some of these people gathered round the bus around Zenith bank/hoeffers axis shouting 'Akwa Ibom people'. The person said the AKTC driver stated that the previous week one of the buses had been destroyed. Can't imagine how scared I would have been if I was in that bus.
Funny enough, that's where one of the entrances to the government house is at. I served in Abia, chopped around and at Hoeffers, lived in Afara...so I can only imagine.
So while showing your power @NA, think of the possible consequences and plan accordingly
