Banks Set To Meet On Tuesday Over BVN Court Ruling As Nigerians In Diaspora Kick Against It

Company secretaries and legal teams of 19 Deposit Money Banks in the country will on Tuesday hold an emergency meeting to fashion out modalities to comply with a court order directing commercial banks to freeze bank accounts without the Bank Verification Number and publish names and details of the customers.

The Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria and the commercial banks to disclose all accounts in their custody and the balances in such accounts. It also made an interim order directing the banks to freeze all the said accounts by stopping “all outward payments, operations or transactions” pending the hearing of the substantive application seeking the forfeiture of the balances in the accounts to the Federal Government.

Bank secretaries and legal teams of the 19 banks are scheduled to hold an emergency meeting to fashion out their plan for compliance.

  4. You DO NOT need to return to Nigeria to do BVN registration.

There are different BVN registration centres across Europe, Asia and North America. If the money is important to you, then get yourself registered.

Life is a value proposition, if you cannot be bothered to do BVN registration in 4 years then something somewhere is wrong and the Govt is not to be blamed. When UAE asked for the same, did people not buy tickets to go to Dubai to do it?

    2. Yes there are centres provided in Europe,America etc but have you checked the centres. We have about 195 countries in the world of which Nigerians reside in more than half of those countries yet the federal government provided centres in just 12 countries,so the likes of us who dont reside in any of those countries what should we do.For instance i reside in Ireland, the fed government didnt provide any centre here to register,am i supposed to travel all the way to England just cos of bvn.Means i would start applying for visa etc on top wetin. You sef think am.I think the government should always think well before passing on unfavourable laws to its citizens
