Brit Who Touched Man’s Hip in Dubai Bar Has Charges Against Him Dropped

The man sentenced to three months in prison in Dubai for touching a man’s hip has had the charges against him dropped.

Jamie Harron, a 27-year-old from Stirling, Scotland, was sentenced for public indecency yesterday, and for drinking alcohol earlier this month.

His campaign group Detained in Dubai announced that he has been freed and has had his passport returned. The electrician was exonerated by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of the emirate.

The Sheikh made a special order for the cases against Harron to be dismissed.

Harron was arrested in July over the incident, in which he said he put his hand on a man’s hip to avoid spilling a drink in a crowded bar.

  1. Good for him.

  2. totally uncalled for

  3. Simply because he is British.

  4. He's a Brit...they love their booze!!!

  5. Dubai is still a Muslim country with their laws, it's not this fantasy Paradise ppl think it is. Would he have been sentenced for such a simple thing in NY or Tokyo? A lot of you women have men taking you to Dubai on trips, remember it is against their laws to have sex outside of marriage, so if the man does anything to you while there, you will also be charged. Think on these things when the tch to travel pops up, Mozambique, Tanzania and Botswana are wonderful destinations too.
