Former Destiny Child's Michelle Williams Reveals She Suffered From Depression

Singer Michelle Williams is discussing her struggle with depression while being a part of Destiny's Child....She brought this up during a co-hosting gig on The Talk.

Williams, who was one-third of the hit girl group, spoke openly about her own experiences with depression after the show began discussing singer Demi Lovato 's transparency about her mental health.

“For years I’m in one of the top-selling female groups of all time suffering with depression,” Williams said. “When I disclosed it to our manager at the time — bless his heart — he was like, ‘y’all just signed a multi-million dollar deal, you’re about to go on tour, what do you have to be depressed about?’”

Williams said that she didn’t realize how serious her depression was until she was in her 30s, but that by 2013, she was “suicidal.

“I was to that place where it got so dark and heavy because sometimes you feel like ‘I’m the provider, I take care of people, I’m not supposed to be feeling this way — what do I do?’ I wanted out,” she said.

  1. Most people you see deal with one form of depression or the other but mask it with laughter, smile or make-up. Life can be messy sometimes.

  2. Depression is big battle of the soul. And hence many don't wear it on their faces.

Meaning people close to the sufferers can hardly tell.

Speaking out is one thing I know that helps majority of them.
The worst thing a potential sufferer will do is to keep quiet, wishing it away.

Once one is always sad and moody and at long stretches because of something or even nothing in some cases, then there likely a red flag.

Thank God u won this fight MiMi Nwa nma!

  5. Depression is real people; it's is so prevalent in our society but most people don't really know what is wrong with them and even if they do they don't know where and how to look for help. Religion is ok, counseling is good but most time you actually do need a therapist to help " cure" it. I have an ongoing battle with depression atm: I'm even on medication- antidepressants and if you see me you can never tell because I look like I've got it together. Depression battle is with something deeper..... it's a battle with your soul. Thank God I sought out for help right on time when the thoughts of suicide and homicide enveloped me. There are places you can go to for help in this country. Pls seek the help that you need. I pray that for everyone (including myself) going through this will win the battle against depression.
