Gov Bello Bans Unions In State Owned Tertiary Institutions

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has proscribed activities of Joint Action Committee (JAC) in all state owned Tertiary institutions in Kogi State.

Bello, in a media briefing at his office in Lokoja, said the government respects the rights of all citizens to responsibly associate and pursue their welfare within the ambits of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the laws of Kogi State.

The Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Kogi State College of Education Technical, Kabba, College of Nursing and Midwifery, Obangede, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah, Kogi State University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba are the ones affected by the ban.

According to the governor, the Kogi State Government has made tremendous progress in resolving all issues relating to adequacy and frequency of remuneration for all categories of civil servants in the state.

He said that his administration has the rights over the labour unions in relation to the responsibilities of the owners/proprietors of tertiary academic institutions.

Bello, however noted that the unions in the stateowned institutions have lent themselves to impeding government’s efforts to carry out holistic reforms of the civil service in Kogi State through unjust and unjustifiable strikes/industrial actions.

Good job Bello. Gradually, you are burying your political career, hopefully, you don't bury your state alongside.
