Sunday In House Gists -Bed Wetting Lover Tips

You bed wet right? This post will help you Understand what is happening to you better...

Good day Stella,

Please indulge me and this my long response to that your post about The Bedwetting Spouse even though I wrote a comment but I would like to add a few things for the purpose of those of us adults that still struggle with it and those that have spouses or children that still struggle with it.

I was once the bedwetting girlfriend. You see, I didn't achieve night control of my bladder until about 19years of age. Even now, I wet the bed like twice a year when I go to sleep dead tired. There was almost nothing my mother did not do. Regulating food and water intake at night, flogging/ punishing me when I bed wet. I remember one day she wanted to flog me and just burst into tears. The only thing she didn't do was give me wall gecko to eat (a popular local remedy).

I met this guy about two years ago and it was 'like at first sight'. About two months later, I went over to his place after working for 57 hours straight (48hour call plus normal 8-5 the following day). I slept almost immediately I got there and my body did not move until 7am the next morning. I opened my eyes and felt wetness and I realized that my village people had come for me. I woke my 'boyfriend' up and told him that I had wet the bed. I said I was very tired and I was sorry it happened. He told me there was no need to apologize and this young man carried me from the bed and cleaned my mess, washed my shorts, my panty and the bedsheet, then flipped over the mattress and brought me back to the bed to go back to sleep.

Haaa! I was shocked and weak. This same bedwetting that my former fiancé said I'm possessed and have a spirit husband because I wet his bed once after a year of dating.

Well, I and this my mess-cleaner are now engaged and making preparations for our wedding. He has never mentioned it, I'm the one who would sometimes ask "babe do you remember that day I 'piss' on your bed". One guy that was on my case to leave him then because he's a 'small boy' and not as rich as he is, I asked him if he could wash the pant of a girl who wet his bed and he said that's embarrassing. I said 'ehen, just leave me for the one who did it for me'.

Bedwetting is caused by a number of medical (and maybe spiritual) reasons some of which are:

Neurological developmental delay: in other words, the person is just late in achieving bladder control but will eventually stop Bedwetting at a later age with/without intervention.

Genetics
: a lot of people who bed wet will find out that one of their parents or uncles or aunties did not stop bedwetting until a very late age

Insufficient production of Anti-Diuretic hormone
. This hormone basically reabsorbs water from the kidney thus reducing our urine volume. A larger amount of ADH is produced at night in normal people, helping us to be dry till we wake up. But some people that bedwet don't produce enough of this hormone at night therefore their urine production goes on as if it is daytime.

Overactive bladder or a small bladder
: these people have bladders that can only hold a small volume of urine before signaling to the brain that it is full so they bedwet continuously through the night.

Secondary nocturnal enuresis
: this is when a person who has previously achieved bladder control suddenly starts to bed wet again. Can be caused by a variety of reasons ranging from Psychological trauma, Urinary tract Infection, Diabetes Mellitus type 2, Diabetes Insipidus...

Sleep disorders
: Heavy sleeping, sleepwalking, sleep apnea.

PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS

For a lot of people, simple lifestyle modification will work.
Reduce food and water intake to bare minimum once it is 6pm.
Set multiple alarms on your phone for every two hours between 10pm-6am (12am, 2am, 4am, 6am). This is what worked for me. I recommend this for everyone of us struggling. Only that you must be disciplined enough to stand up once your alarm rings. After about 4-8weeks of doing this constantly, your internal body clock will wake you up at those times with or without an alarm. If you stop setting alarms and your body clock goes out of sync with the urination times, start setting the alarm again.

If the two above do not work, it is time to see your doctor, who will evaluate you and give a suitable medical solution to your specific problem.

For those of us that believe in God, pray earnestly for God to help you tackle this embarrassing problem, because I believe that the devil also uses 'medical' problems to afflict people.

I would also like to encourage people who are lucky enough not to be tackling this problem not to look at the rest of us like demons or make fun of us, We already have a psychological battle going on in our heads. I probably would make fun of people who bedwet if I didn't have to go through it myself. I read a comment of someone who left a seemingly good man (who is now married) because of Bedwetting, I can assure you that his wife knew about it before marriage and decided to help him through it. sometimes if you love someone, you help them through their difficulties and they will be eternally grateful to you. But then again, it's your choice to pick what you can or cannot deal with in a spouse.

Please BVs add in your comments below, practical solutions that have worked for you or someone you know.

  4. I have nothing to add about bed wetting. Poster that guy is your perfect match. I can't deal with adult bed wetting, I still beat my girl of 12years old last night because of it.

    1. Now that you have been informed can you just stop beating your poor 12 year old girl? It is not going to help her stop but will create serious self esteem issues for her. It is not her fault and you need to put yourself in her position.

    2. @ Adadioramma!...stop beating her please, instead buy her teen night pampers (this will prompt her when she is wet that is time to use the loo, and help her to know when to get up at night to use the toilet).
I use this method for my teen girl, she is 13 now and stop bed wetting. Bring her really close to you and let her know is not her making ( if not, this will reduce her confidence ).
All the very best your daughter.

    3. Adaora, yes oh, God gave me someone who complements me in every way. May I implore you to please not beat your child anymore for it, I can assure you that at that age it is not a thing of joy to her that she wets the bed and she doesn't do it on purpose therefore punishment can never solve the issue.
Instead why don't you try out the Alarm method. Get her a small phone that can set multiple alarms even if it is Nokia torchlight without Sim, and then set alarms from the time she sleeps to the time she wakes. This is her own weakness, teach her to conquer it before she goes to University and it embarrasses her. It did me strong thing that time...lol

    4. All things being equal, a 12yr old should not be bet wetting. You can help her stop it by making extra effort, make sure she pees before going to bed and at least one more time before day break, and you have to do it yourself, if set alarm for her might just be to lazy get up.
My niece was 3 was her mom started it with her, now she is 6 and most times gets up by herself to pee at night. She still bed wet but it's occasionally. Stop beating her

  7. Urinary incontinence is typically a medical issue. It might be embarrassing but your best bet is to bring this up with your regular doctor. There could be a quickly-recommended fix, such as bladder training or medication. The doctor also might think that this indicates some more pressing medical issue. In any case, it will get you on track to getting better, also Childhood/ adult traumas can cause some people to bedwet because they affect people physically, emotionally and psychologically... Besides that, if you drink a lot of caffeine which is a dierutic or alcohol then you'd be prone to bedwetting because these drinks speed up your digestive systems and cause you to pee more.

  8. Just like the poster said, setting alarms worked the magic. Mine was every 1 hour. I stopped bed-wetting in my 3rd year in the university. I was 18 then. The embarrassment was out of this world and I lived in the hostel. If you have not worked in these shoes, please don't mock the person who has. Lastly I agree it is genetics because all my siblings bed-wetted till they were 20.

  9. Lord have mercy on me for spanking my 8yr old each time she bed wets. This post just made me realize she probably took after me, I didn't stop bed wetting until I was in JSS2 and here I am self righteously spanking the poor child. I'm feeling so bad right now.

    1. Thank you for feeling that way. Help her. Stop beating. Beating doesn't help cause the day after the beating there'll still be water on thebed

  15. My househelp it's 15yrs old and still bedwets on a daily basis. Truth is that bed-wetting can be very annoying especially when it's not a toddler.
The stench alone is frustrating. I would have sent her back to her mom but she is a good girl and like a daughter to me, so I am helping her through it but truth be told, it is tiring especially when the alarm solution is not working, even if she wakes up a zillion times, she still wets her bed like som thing is out there to shame her.
I was gobsmacked when I talked to her mum on the phone yesterday and complained about it for the first time, the mum said she took it from her that she did bed wet till she was a grown adult. I come weak! That's the genetic aspect the poster mentioned.
Hubby and my sister who is aware thinks I should send her back to her mums but her education will suffer and I really do love her, so I am going to keep helping her through it, hopefully we record a success story soon.

    1. Thank you for loving that girl like she's yours. Even for biological parents, it's very frustrating to have your teen wet the bed, it almost drove my mum crazy.
Since you say waking her at night does not help, there might be an underlying medical condition and if you can afford to take her to a child neurologist at LUTH (if you stay in Lagos), please do so she can be evaluated and whatever it is will be taken care of. Someone above also mentioned a 'teen night diaper'. That's also worth looking into too

  16. As parents, we need to help our kids stop this act. My mum told me she usually wake me up every 2 hours at least we I was growing up until i eventually was able to get up myself to urinate. Most parents don't even do half of this, you train your child with pampers at night till 3-4years and expect miracles to happen when you don't put pampers any longer. This situation needs training from the very tender age and it will become part of that child
