Emergency Room Series:- Jehovah Witness And Blood Transfusion.

My hands are shaking as I type this. I just witnessed the most gruesome child abuse ever.

Before I start, I just want to say that I'm typing based on my feelings about an incident and if you feel I'm disrespecting your faith if you're a Jehovah witness, I'm sadly not sorry.

A young child was rushed in to the ER by the parents. The child was semiconscious, restless, weak, pale looking, underweight, jaundiced and with a distended abdomen. The vitals signs were also poor as the breathing rate was fast. The pulse rate was also fast and weak.

The parents said the child was a sickler and had been having body pains for a week. They were worried and panicking. They had been treating the child at home with painkillers and blood tonic but grew worse.

We took the child's blood to run series of tests which included tests to check the blood level. The child was placed on oxygen. We were certain the child would need blood. The child had saline drips to rehydrate and increase the blood volume. Stronger pain medications and antibiotics were also given while we waited for the test results. The blood tests came out to be shocking. The child's blood level was 11%. Blood had to be given fast. The child would need at least 4 bags of blood. The doctor informed the parents to get their consent to start the blood transfusion.

The parents refused!.

The doctor was stunned. They claimed it was against their religion as Jehovah witnesses to collect blood from another person. The parents asked if we could give plasma expanders because that's what they can use instead of blood whenever the child has crisis.

The doctor told them that plasma expander is not blood and will not give us a desirable result fast. The doctors pleaded and pleaded and told the parents the child could die if nothing is done fast but they were adamant. They claimed it was a sin against God and we should give the plasma expander like that.

We were stunned. The parents had the entire ER team begging them to save their child's life but they chose not to 'sin' against God. The mother of the child was almost considering the blood transfusion but the father was having none of it.

Since it was against medical practice to perform a procedure without the consent of the patient or relatives, there was nothing we could do than to painfully obey. I felt so much anger and disgust at the parents. I told them that the fact that they are Jehovah witnesses doesn't make the poor child one until the child was old enough to make such decisions.

The child had plasma expanders but the blood level wasn't improving as expected. The child also had a lot of intravenous medications given to boost the blood and improve the liver function but since the blood level was still low, the effect was slow and frustrating.

Eventually, the child slipped into unconsciousness and started having laboured breathing. The doctors kept pleading but the parents still refused saying that 'God is testing their faith'. I put my hand on my head and just walked away.

I knew they were desperate to kill the child. Can't they bend the religious rule? Isn't the child's life more important to them? I thought. We lowered the head of the bed such that the child's head was lower than the rest of the body. Its like bending or tilting your generator when you know that the fuel is about to finish.

We were desperate to save the child's life. and the director of the unit had threatened to sue the parents if the child survives or dies. The mother began to panic. The father then decided to allow us give the blood.

Anyway, since the heart, brain and other vital organs weren't getting enough blood they began to fail. Despite rushing a bag of blood, We watched in horror as the oxygen level began to drop and the child began to gasp. the child was surrounded by many doctors and nurses trying to save the child. We did all we could but we lost the child.

I simply walked away in anger and frustration because I knew I could rant and insult the daylight out of the parents if I stood close.

Is there a Jehovah witness reading this? Kindly explain the rationale behind not accepting blood transfusion since you claim it's in the bible. Until I reason with you (not likely to), I'll most likely be seeing witnesses in the bad light.

We need to know when to be religious and when to apply sense and wisdom.

*OMG OMG OMG!!!!...Oh Dear, this is wrong!!!

  3. They should be happy that they killed their child.

In 2006 Feb we had an experience like that with my 3rd brother, he was unconscious but breathing, he was not even blinking his eyes, we tried to put our finger in his eyes and he was not seeing anything. We rushed him to hospital and we were told he's left with 8% blood. He was infused with only on pint of blood and was discharged the 3rd day.

Those people should be charged to court for manslaughter, wicked people with stupid mentality

    3. My boss told me of a similar story this happened in a consulting room my boss sent the parents out with the excuse that he needed to do a procedure on the children and transfused the blood. The children had a turn around immediately the parents were happy but were not told it's blood. He was happy with himself he saved life. In this case whof would God be angry with?

    4. Your boss went against medical ethics. His license can be withdrawn if it ever becomes a case.

      Delete
    5. He didn't go against any medical ethics.
Out ethics says I'll do my patient no harm.
A child cannot give consent and if the doctor feels the parents decision will harm the child you go to the hospital ethics committee and get a court injunction. And transfuse the child very very well.

      Delete
    6. Yes you could get a court injunction!!!!

Remember baby charly of great ormornd street hospital London. The court decision over parents. Such cases are heard really fast in court.

  8. I am not a Jehovah's Witness (God forbid!),but I like accepting to study with them whenever they visit. I learnt that the refusal of blood transfusion is to prevent having the blood of a sinner or armed robber in their gene. Very ridiculous! RIP to the innocent child. The parents have murdered sleep by killing him.

    1. Did the people you study with tell you this? The answer is No. Please, instead of gathering things that are untrue about Jehovah's Witness (I'm proud to be one by the way)why not ask the the witnesses themselves since you have discussions with them. They will be glad to explain.
Now, the reason we dont accept blood transfusion is because of what is recorded in the book of Acts 15:28,29. There it says that Christians should abstain from blood and from things strangled. That same place also says that Christians should abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from sexual immorality. Many people obey the command to abstain from the other to or agree that we should abstain from them even when they find it difficult to do so. When they don't, they feel guilty. We as witnesses do not 'pick and choose' what to obey in the bible and we don't pick the ones we think are the best. We believe that the bible is the word of God and through it, he corrects, instructs, and disciplines us therefore 'everything' in the bible should be taken seriously. We as Jehovah's Witnesses do things that leave us with a clean conscience, things that leave us feeling happy that we have please our heavenly father. The portion quoted above is not the only place that the bible says we should flee from blood, reading through the Bible, you will find other places. For answers to other questions you might have about Jehovah's Witnesses, please kindly visit www.jw.org

    2. @Anon 13:53 But yet you don't believe that Jesus is the son of God. Abi is that one not in the Bible. They major on the minor and leave the important out mscheew

    3. Like I told Paul Okay, stop gathering information from non Witnesses and ask the Witnesses themselves. We believe that Jesus is the son of God.
We believe in everything the Bible says about Jesus I.e how he existed in heaven before coming to earth, his reason for coming, how God himself acknowledge him as his 'son'after his baptism by John in mathew 3:17 how he himself referred to Jehovah as his 'father'john14:28. To even call yourself a Christian and not believe in jesus honestly does not make any sense. Please, when next you see Jehovah's Witnesses, ask them to explain to you some of their beliefs you do not understand and they will be glad to do so. How would you feel if people peddled things that are not true about you to people who have very free access to you and those people chose to believe the things when they could have easily walked up to you to ask you? Every Jehovah's Witness who can express himself or herself( even a child) can explain to you that Jesus is the SON of God. Please, if you cannot approach witnesses you can visit our site: www.jw.org.

      Delete
    4. We don not 'major on the minor and leave out the important'. We take seeriously everything written in the bible. You should stop believing everything you hear. We believe that God is our father and as a Father, he knows what is best for us so, for this reason we obey all without an exception even when it is DIFFICULT to do.

"It seemed to the Holy Spirit and to us that you should not be saddled with any crushing burden, but be responsible only for these bare necessities: Be careful not to get involved in activities connected with idols; avoid serving food offensive to Jewish Christians (blood, for instance); and guard the morality of sex and marriage. These guidelines are sufficient to keep relations congenial between us. And God be with you". I pray the lord grants you all light and understanding of the word, so u stop sending ppl to thier early graves

Anon 16:56.I'm glad you yourself call those things NECCESSITIES. If the bible says they are neccessary, we dont decide which one is more neccessary. I said there are many other places in the bible where God actually says we should abstain from blood, I only cited Acts as just one example. In Gen9:1,5,6 when God told Noah and his family to include meat in their diet,he said only the blood of such animals they should not eat. We cannot claim we don't eat blood when we take it intravenously. After all, a person who cannot eat due to illness can take it intravenously, in that sense he's eating. God says we shouldn't eat blood and we Obey this. I have once again used another scripture to support why we abstain from blood, however there are many other scriptural backings. I will stop here. You can ask the Witnesses for answers to the 'complicating'things about us or you can visit www.jw.org. Enjoy the rest of your you all. Bye!!!

    16. I have seen a lot of these cases, I have had a neighbour how had c/s and refused to be transfused, she died and left her baby. If the scripture you quoted is the only reason you guys don't receive blood then you have done Zero justice to it. Abstain from blood. Simply means eating animals whose blood are still intact i.e animals strangled. That is the reason the chicken, cow etc are slaughtered. That is why you dont go around picking dead animals on the street to eat even if they recently died. So please give us more scriptures to justify this murder(not like I ll ever understand) .

  17. Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide refuse blood transfusion because of Jehovah's instructions at Leviticus 17:11,12 and Acts 15:28,29 in part it says;'no soul must eat blood' and 'abstain from blood'...blood here includes animal and human blood. In a hospital, when a patient cannot eat through his mouth, he is fed intravenously. Now, would a person who never put blood into his mouth but who accepted blood by transfusion really be obeying the command to 'keep abstaining from blood'? For GENUINE Jehovah's Witnesses obeying that command is paramount, regardless of the outcome... afterall Jehovah himself has promised to resurrect especially those who die while remaining loyal to Him.

If you believed so much in this your stupid doctrine why do you guys commit formication and adultery? Anonymous replier pls answer my question if you can swear you have never had sex, sexual thoughts or wishes. Why would someone refuse a medical intervention that can help his/her life? The same bible passage warned against sin as well but you rather formicate and commit abortions but refuse blood to safe your life. It is not just rational and I can't understand such thinking. As a woman she should have made the decision early enough for her child except she also wanted the child to die cos he is a sickler. God have mercy on them and I hope they can sleep at night knowing they could have avoided that child's death

  26. With due respect to allof you whose hands, legs and hands are shaking on bcos of Jehovah's Witnesses biblical stand on blood, have you done your research on how many lives have been lost or complicated as a result of blood transfusion? There is no guarantee that blood transfusion saves life;most times, if not always,it's trial and error. Please, take note that Jehovah's witnesses take their health and life seriously and have to that effect pioneered research on bloodless surgery which is saving life all over the world today. Life and blood is sacred to God.And He gave a clear command at Gen 9:4-5 that "only flesh with it's soul-blood- you must not eat.And besides that, your blood of your soils shall I ask back."This command applies to all of Noah's descendants right to our day. That decree establishes that Jehovah will hold to account all humans who disrespect life and blood. Again Acts 15:29 states clearly do not eat blood or rather keep abstaining from blood. The emphasis is not on the method of taking or eating the blood as it were, but on the blood and usage. Irrespective of how it's "eaten or taken",blood is blood and it goes into the body. And irrespective of the purpose, God's law is clearly against taking in blood.Even if you take the blood and live, you'll still die anyway. So what is the gain of going against God's clear command.Pls read Luke 9:23-25 where Jesus said:"if anyone wants to cone after me,let him disown himself and pick his torture stake and keep following me.For whoever wants to save his life will lose it,but whoever loses his life for my sake is the one who will save it.Really, what good will it do a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own self or suffers ruin?"In conclusion,we do not worship God on our own terms but rather on the terms or principles and laws God has set for us

    3. I had earlier posted as Anon 16:53 as I cldn't enable my Google account. May I therefore introduce myself as Eremi. Jesus did not mean that literally. If you read the said account you'll notice that even his audience at the time were shocked at such suggestion bcos they misunderstand him just as you are doing. He didn't give his disciple his literal flesh to eat or literal blood to drink, did he?Or when you take your communion, is it Jesus literal flesh and blood you eat and drink?Pls take note that Jesus used emblems to represent his flesh and blood. And pls take a moment too and ponder:God in his infinite love sacrifice his only begotten son for us to be redeemed from Adamic sin(John 3:16)Also Christ out obedience to his father and love for us too submitted to the Father's will (philipians 2:5-8,Prov 8:30).None of us can fathom or even imagine the pains both Father and Son went through. Now Christ said at Mathew 22:37 that the greatest and first commandment is that "you must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind." Obedience to that command is therefore paramount to our service to God.It's within the foregoing context that Christ again said at Mathew 10:37 that "whoever has affection for father or mother than me is not worthy of me;and whoever has affection for son or daughter than me is worthy of me.Whoever finds his soul will lose it and whoever loses his soul for my sake will find it."Did God not ask Abraham to sacrifice his only son and he obeyed and was blessed. Many of us would have screamed "cruelty" at God. But Abraham obeyed knowing fully that God was capable of restoring the life of his son.Abraham is the only one specifically called as God's friend in the Bible. Now that is faith in action!!!Jehovah Witnesses strive to imitate such faith.
Christ didn't say serving God was going to be easy.Rather he said "pick up your tortutr stake and keep following me". He also said only those who endure to the end will be saved(Mathew 24:13).

  31. In my humble opinion I think the Jehovah's witness are wrong on this. For a start, Jesus Shed His Blood for us. Jesus also said there's no greater Love than for a man to lay down his life for another. When you take a look at this it has to do with blood. There was a time I was feeling that my blood was too precious to share with others until God opened my eyes, that if Jesus can sacrifice his blood for me then who I'm I not to do the same. Saying you shouldn't eat anything with blood or that is sacrificed to idols, is completely different from someone willingly donating his blood to save another persons life. Saving another persons life is Noble. People should wake up.
