Idahosa Says He Was Present As Obasanjo Knelt Down Before Atiku Begging For Second Term

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Charles Idahosa, has said he witnessed when former President, Olusegun Obasanjo knelt before ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in 2013.

He said this while reacting to Atiku’s defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Atiku Abubakar, former Vice- President recently resigned his membership of the ruling APC and returned to the PDP.

He told Independent, “Atiku was a protΓ©gΓ© of the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua. He has a political machinery that cuts across the country.

“When Yar’Adua was in prison during the Abacha era, he confided in some of his lieutenants that in case he dies in prison, they should ensure they draft in Olusegun Obasanjo in order to compensate the South West for what happened to the late MKO Abiola.

“Yar’Adua’s key man then was Atiku so Obasanjo was forced to work with him. When Obasanjo was contesting as president, he had no money. Atiku provided all the funds.

“I know all this because I was part and parcel of the whole thing. Having agreed on Obasanjo, they needed people to execute the project. It was Atiku that called Chief Anthony Anenih to lead the campaign of Obasanjo.

I was the first person Chief Anenih took from Benin in 1998. We usually meet in one very popular hotel in Abuja. That was where the whole plans started before we went to Jos for the convention.

“Atiku had already won election as governor of Adamawa state because that was his ambition then. But Obasanjo insisted that he wanted him as his running mate so he contested as running mate to Obasanjo despite his position as the governor-elect of Adamawa state. According to sources available to us that time, Obasanjo said he will do a single term but after that, he decided to go for second term.

“I was physically present at Rivers state Governor’s Lodge when the heat became too much and Obasanjo in the presence of all of us knelt down in front of Atiku begging him to allow him do a second term.

“I think that was how Atiku missed the opportunity by agreeing to Obasanjo’s plea. His thought was that at least, if Obasanjo completes his second term, he will hand over to him but you all know the story of Third Term Agenda and that was how they fell apart.

“Atiku had the best opportunity to become president in 2003 and lost it. He had the support of PDP governors then. Now, in the process of jumping from one place to another to realise his ambition, he has lost woefully.”

Idahosa was a former Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Edo state in 2013.

He later served as Special Adviser on Political Matters to former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

    1. Wasn't Jonathan in his 40s when he became president?? Last I checked, 40s is still youth. And he messed up. No young blood that hadn't been in the corridor of power can handle power. Because power intoxicated. Just how when someone who has never seen money sees plenty money for the first time.

Anyone that wants to contest should be 45yrs and above for presidency. Those under this age should go start from the low level politics and work their way up.

    2. This one weak me.
PDP should bring out another candidate because this so called Atiku can't get my vote that's if vote actually counts in this country.
They want to give Nigerians another disaster like Buhari.

  8. Atiku is still the better option right now.he is not tribalistic and he is not a fanatical jihadist.he has massive support in the north, and I don't think the present govt will get any vote in the south and east.did we see what happened in the akwa ibom LGA election. The only state the present govt would have won would be IMO, but with the stunt and drama their governor is pulling upandan, the citizens are so tired and can't wait to kick them out.the north have the highest population but if 60-70percent of that population go to Atiku,he will definitely win it.right now everybody is tired of the present govt and the history of 2015 is about repeating itself.
    I pray for the best.
Just analysing my opinion.if you don't like it, say your own and don't insult anyone.

    1. Unfortunately buhari will defeat Atiku in the north and south west, south south and south east vote don't count in Nigeria

    2. Handsome beat, incase you don't know, even the northerners are tired of buhari. They want someone different. And no, buhari doesn't stand a chance against atiku in the North. Atiku is a man of the north. Ask northerners. He is loved..

And oh, once north votes for atiku, and the South South and South East vote for him, he doesn't need west.
Jonathan didn't get massive vote from the West. His votes were from North, South South and South east

And who says South East and South South vote don't count?? Last time I checked, that's what put Jonathan there along side his vote from the North.

    3. Atiku's official wife is Yoruba!!!!!

Yoruba will vote Atiku once their daughter is First Lady!!!!

    4. Who cares about his wife?
I hope you all have voter's card. Don't come be analysing and when the time come to vote, you sit infront of TV in your house and you expect your preferred candidate to win.
You will all be shocked when Buhari win his second term with a good margin.

  9. People are already tired of Buhari bouhahaha . I believe Atiku is a strong contender for buhari come 2019. But what of east and west region? They should present viable candidate abeg

    1. Nigerians are very hard to please, those who voted buhari believing he would be better than Jonathan are the ones complaining the most.
The truth is no president in this country will ever achieve anything if political parties continue to sabotage each other's government so they can be in power after the next election.
For this country to have any form of development, political parties should see themselves as allies working towards a common goal, rather than enemies seeking to distort each other.
