Police Arrest Woman Over Attempt To Sell Twins

The Police in Katsina State have arrested one Salima Lawal, 30, of Marabar-Kankara, Malumfashi Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to sell her twin babies.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the twins are baby girls and less than two months old. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Besen Gwana, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Katsina. Gwana said the woman had approached a person (name withheld) in Faskari Local Government Area of the state and negotiated to sell the twins to him at the cost of N350,000.

He said that after negotiations to buy them at the price, the person went to bring the money. Instead of him to bring the money to her, he reported the case to the police. The next thing she saw were policemen who arrested her. The suspect told newsmen that she committed the act without the consent of her husband and father of the twins.

The commissioner urged people to continue to assist police with information that would assist in curbing criminal acts in the state. He said the woman would be charged to court.

  1. I can only wonder how she intended to go back to her normal life knowing that parts of her will be somewhere else, sold like pieces of items. I know people who give up their kids for adoption sometimes do the most noble thing giving a child an opportunity at a life one can't afford or giving another a chance to be a parent but....God will help us sha.

  2. Who no know no go know, she is doing it to give the babies a better life, to take care of twins no dey easy even for one month, try and see. Dont blame her much you will not understand her condition.
    Talking out of experience..

  3. A woman wouldn't just want to "sell" her kids, but as a mother, when she sees she can't give her kids a good life she might opt to sell them instead of them dying on her as a result of malnourishment or diseases.

I don't blame the woman too much, Nigeria of today can make one go gaga.
