Mama Tee Series - Bankers Are Stingy (?)

I had always heard people say bankers are stingy. I had an experience with a stingikoko banker to prove it.

Right from my growing up years, I heard people say this about our dearly beloved bankers.

This alone should have been a reason to stay away from them you would say but I couldn't help it when this sweet and handsome banker came my way.
Oh Lord! bankers were beautiful and handsome in those days, merely looking at them from the distance they would smell of class and sophistication. Most young ladies like me back then could not resist the captivating aura.... I am beginning to sound like a novel from M&B.

I met my Stingikoko boyfriend at a friend's birthday party, let's call him Lee.
Lee worked for one new generation bank which later merged with another one some years back. Back in those days, they paid them well.

He was always checking up on me and giving me advice. I was fresh out of school and searching for a job. Lee would advise me to take up any job in order to have job experience to boost my chances of getting a bigger job. My first teaching job back then, before I moved to Lagos, Lee made me to take it.

Now, his only problem was stinginess.

Lee would buy meat and count it, when I come around he would say:
' Eat anything you like, I still have like 7 meat in the stew' Lols
I only got to use his perfume when he was around, If he was not around, I won't see his perfume, he would hide it very well. Lols. Those times he was around, he would go and bring it and offer to spray it for me, he would now press it small 'pim-pim' on my armpits. Hahahaha

Lee would put on the generator when there was no light ONLY if he needed to charge his phone, he would not allow you to put on the fan those times too no matter how hot the weather was. He would tell you he was rationing the fuel.

This guy never gave me up to 3k at once all through our 7months relationship even when I was jobless. We used to see every weekend or thrice a month. He would give me 1k, 1500, 2k and the highest was 2500. Sometimes he paid the money into my account that I had with his bank.

Lee would be monitoring this account and when little change entered from elsewhere, he would not give me 1naira until the account became empty. I did not know he was monitoring it initially until one day.

My aunt paid in 5k to buy Jamb form for her daughter that was living with my mum. I saw Lee the next day and told him I was broke and he went:
" Haha? Broke? But someone just dashed you 5k yesterday na". Lols
That was how I went and opened another account elsewhere o.
Lee was always owing the women who were selling things on his street and when I passed, some of them would shout 'Aunty, pls tell brother Lee to come and see me o'. Lols

My friends were happy for me, they would say:

'Oh Mama Tee is so lucky, her man is so handsome and nice, he also has a good job to top it' lol

Later, he moved from his mini-flat apartment into a two-bedroom flat and wanted me to come and arrange the house 'the way I like it' (yimu). I did not step into the house till I left him.
Bankers in the house, pls don't be annoyed o.

So, is it true that bankers are stingy? Any personal experience?

Mama Tee.

    1. Bankers were very fine in those days though
Now, the banks can not afford the fine people anymore, they now employ palasas. If you want to see fine people, go to telecoms companies and oil companies. Doctors too are fine.

  6. Stingyness na personal thing. It has nothing to do with your profession. I have bankers siblings, them no stingy at all. Girls dey even rush my bro sef because of he generous nature.

    1. Exactly. Doesn't have to do with being a banker. Some people are even stingy to themselves.

    2. Personally I think bankers are stingy like a whole lot of them. I used to think it was just a myth until my bestie dated one. Kai! This one stingy die. Transport fare from his house was all she got and it was always change sef. Bestie is married to one business man now that spoils her silly.

I once had a very short relationship with a bank corper. Maybe na him stingy oh or aybe it was because back then I didn't know how to ask guys for money. So I never ever asked and he never ever offered

And cos I didn't live far from him, he would just put me on bike and pay for the bike. I'm not sure I ever got one naira from him. Only chop chop goodies.

      SMH

    3. And yeah, bestie's sis (a top banker) explained it was probably because they always have to make sure they have extra cash at hand incase their accounts don't balance up after the day's transactions. So they couldn't afford to be 'wasting' money

      Delete
    4. Lol. @EkaJoy, if your "top banker" besties sis told you that, then she's actually a teller and not a "top banker". I'm a banker (core staff) and I can assure you anybody that does that☝️ is a contract staff and not near the top yet yeah?

    5. Oh geez Femme! I'm not at liberty to share my friends story but if u know me on this blog, you'd know I don't make up stories.

Top banker (I think a manager at stanbic), the fact that she knows about it doesn't mean she's a teller, just means maybe people she worked with experience that.

Ffs, what would I gain by lying about that. It's so insane

      Delete
    6. The banker I dated was stingy too

      Delete
    7. Dear Femme, even a Head of. Operation can pay for shortages or overages, and some other sort of supervisors in some cash handling units too. There are lots of reasons that can make a banker appear "Stingy". Some have huge loan repayments on their neck e.t.c.

      Delete
    8. @femme...know know, some banks still use core staff as tellers and they pay you based on your level...check zb abuja and thank me later.

  7. lol....i think stinginess has to do with personality. i know a family relation that is doing very well, she has up to four houses in Lagos and in our state, but if she sees a widow eating her last meal, she will happily join the widow to finish the meal and still form class on top.

  8. It depends on individuals, most Salary earners calculates before spending.
Lee sounds more like a teacher to me.

  9. Me no know cos I have never dated a banker. I jess always hear that phrase 'bankers are stingy' at all times too.
The one I know is, they can chase anything in skirt for africa. Once you enter d banking hall...Eg can be seen in d case of d chronicle poster of yesterday na. Over stingy sha worry this your own mentioned above. Haba!!!😉🤣🤣🤣

  10. Hmmm..... Bankers over to you

  11. The banker I dated was just there, not generous and not stingy either. The problem is a lot of them quickly blow their salary, by month end they are broke. Many also have loans running. car loan, generator loan, cooker and fridge sef. So as salary enter, pim the money goes.
I am Yoruba, but I enjoy dating Igbo guys more and they are usually business men. infact I am dating one now, even though I work this guy gives me an allowance monthly, pays my rent, takes care of me and treats me like an egg. Anything that needs fixing in my house be it plumber, carpenter, he send someone to fix it. His only problem is jealousy and possessiveness, which I'm trying to control.
The thing is an average salary earner e.g banker cannot spend so much on a woman. Usually business men are better at spending.

  12. I dated a banker back in the days. Very stingy somebody. He will give me money to cook for him and the money will always be short. I will add mine but didn't mind then because i thought we were in a relationship after all.
It took me like 9months for my eyes to clear. A USER. I can't type all i went through but i am glad i didn't marry him.

  13. I hv dated 2 bankers in d past and they spoiled me silly.

  14. I think it depends on individuality. I dated one when I was in 100level.he was working with FCMB then as a marketr but he took very good care of me. The first time I held one bundle of 50k that is not school fees but dash was from this guy. He told me to get anything I want, he gives me money to make my hair every two weeks. It's not all of them abeg.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Today's bankers don't even earn much so they might not have enough for themselves more or less to give others.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It depends on the individual, I'm a banker and I'm not stingy, some of my colleagues are stingy sha or very meticulous with cash.

  17. I'm married to a banker and i don't know if i can call him stingy or not. He believes in providing just the basics (food, water, light, kids school fees, fuel and hospital bills),anything besides that you're on your own o, since i married him 4 years ago i haven't changed my wardrobe,i still wear all my old clothes and you can imagine how i look in them after 2kids,i make my hair once in 3 months, last year was even worst cos i made my hair just twice after plenty quarel becos he just built a house and said he was recovering wheras every month he must buy at least one shoe or shirt for himself. My kids didn't even buy Christmas clothes not because there's no money o but cos its unnecessary spending to him, almost all their clothes don't even fit cos kids grow so fast. He even goes to the market himself buys everything, foodstuff in bulk, meat even maggi and salt the only time i go is when he travels out for his leave once every year. But i'm not complaining o, i'm just confused about why he insists that i shouldn't work that he will open a business for me yet nothing nothing

    2. Chaiiiii nawa o. You just described my friends husband. Only difference is he spends heavily on the kids, the running of the home etc. The kids even go to very expensive schools.
While the kids look well dressed,my friend hardly has nice clothes and her hair is always messy. Because the hubby hardly lets her see change to do her hair. The hair can be due for 4months. Now she has even turn to natural hair. The husband also doesn't allow her work also.

I wonder how my hubby feels when we go out with him cos he can deck designer outfits from head to too while the kids and i are shabilly dressed beside him,my kids with their undersized clothes and slippers,me with faded and undersized clothes as well. I keep asking him if he doesn't feel ashamed

    5. My dear, if he doesn't see spending on himself as unnecessary, then he's not just stingy, he's wicked.

    7. And you don't know if he is stingy? Madam, he is stingy and oppressive in nature, open up to a close family member or friend who can assist you with capital to start something of your own, and stop letting him intimidate you. Inukwa, travels out for his leave without you, going to market by himself, oh Father, grant is single sisters wisdom to avoid such.

If my future husband refused me working after wedding, honestly I will divorce him after 2 kids
