Fela Durotoye Is A Breath Of Fresh Air As President But 2019 Is Too Soon ...

Read through this Interesting report before you agree or disagree ...Dont argue Blindly please!

Motivational speaker Fela Durotoye threw his hat into the 2019 presidential ring on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in typical tech savvy fashion.

“Therefore, to be clear, I am aspiring to contest as a presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections”, Durotoye announced via an email sent to the Fela Durotoye Leadership Network.

Durotoye will be running on the platform of the Alliance for a New Nigeria (ANN), a political party “founded by professionals and technocrats with great political insight and wisdom required to build a formidable nationwide grassroot movement within the next 12 months and beyond”, he says.

“It’s time to choose our future over our past”, he declares. “It is our time and together we will deliver the future”.

Honestly, I very much would love for someone outside of the establishment to become Nigeria’s president in my lifetime. It was why I signed up to the Chris Okotie campaign in 2003 and 2007, distributing the candidate’s plans for a new Nigeria on cassettes all around Ojota in Lagos.

Durotoye’s biggest challenge at the moment can be situated in his own declaration statement.

Biggest hurdle

“It’s 12 months to the presidential election and we only have enough time to act quickly. So, let’s make each day count”, he says.

Therein lies the problem with the Fela Durotoye presidential dream. You don't build a "formidable nationwide grassroot movement" under 12 months. 2019 is just too soon for Durotoye and everyone else just making their presidential plans public.

You don’t wake up one day to become president because you talk a good game and appeal to a youthful demographic. This declaration from the 46-year-old Durotoye is coming a couple of years late. He should have been on that shop window years before.

Chris Okotie example
Okotie was pretty much the same. He would get up in the middle of the night--few months before the general election--and tell everyone who cares to listen that God has ordained him to be Nigeria’s president.

Fresh faced Okotie had no grassroot structure to his name, no ground game, embarked on zilch door-to-door campaign and appealed only to the elite who flocked his church while speaking through their nostrils.

To beat the PDP and APC at their own game, a newcomer has to have been working his socks off years prior. Durotoye should have been in our faces the moment Buhari was elected president in 2015. He should have been proffering solutions to Nigeria’s problems since the APC seized the reins of leadership from the PDP.

Durotoye should have been offering alternative policy proposals every other day on television and the internet since 2015.

He can actually start now. He’s only 46 after all. He won’t be elected president in 2019 for sure. For Durotoye, it’s time to begin walking the talk by building a ground game—one that would grant him instant name recognition in the villages of Cross River and Taraba ahead of the 2023 vote.

He's got to begin building that grassroot movement for 2023 if he's really serious about being president.

Yes, Nigeria needs a fresh face. But it’s got to be one who has earned his epaulet. Durotoye hasn't.

By the way, iyawo powder do me strong thing for face haaaaha

  2. Fela connects with the 1% that can understand what he says and how he says it. The Nigerian politics is the politics of hunger, stomach infrastructure as defined by fayose. If he can get help from people who can help translate his language to what people can understand, then he can start

  3. While winning the Presidential election come 2019 by Fela Durotoye may look like a seemingly insurmountable mountain, it can actually be done.

It will depend majorly on two things. Number one, how determined, focused and committed to the goal by him and his team are and secondly how ready Nigeria is for such a major shift. One

  4. Any body that thinks a politician can win without the grass root help doesn't know Nigeria. I saw a comment saying one doesn't need grassroot help, saying they need to campaign to only those in the urban area and those in the urban can reach the rural. Lmao. You think those in the urban vote? Think again. No one votes as much as those in the rural area. Do you know how many people stay in the rural area? That is where votes lies. That is why anyone that dances the dance of the rural area get elected. It's true this duro guy will not win. Because election is next year. Who know him? The noise makers on social media? 🤣 the keypad warriors? Think again. If he wants to be president, he should start now and wait for 2023. You can't win without anyone knowing who you are because you are the youth and appeal to the youth meanwhile those that really vote aren't on social media to know the noise the youth make there.

    1. True though. Since he has made his intention clear. He should begin his campaign now ahead of 2023.

  6. They have come with their spirit of discouragement.

At this point I don't even care if someone jumps up a day before election to campaign. As long as it's not pdp or APC, I'm so voting that person or not voting at all.

And if he fails we will vote a new person again until one person finally gets it right.

This is why people always don't wanna come out because some idiots somewhere will always have one discouraging talk or the other

  8. Fela is dreaming and it is good to dream, straight up tribalism; if a president will come from the south he must be Igbo.
    yes I said it.
and yes there are Igbo men with more experience, better pedigree and way way more qualified than Fela.
Yoruba achigo, Awusa chia, Ijaw chia...Igbo ga achi before onachighaa to yoruba, anything else is injustice.
whats the hype about Fela anyway???
Peter Obi is 500times the man Fela is so is Ekweremmadu....

  9. Completely agreed.

In as much as I would have loved to support him, I just knew he wouldn't win elections come 2019.

Cos nobody actually knows him(I mean those in the rural areas).

He was supposed to have made his intentions known earlier to enable people know and recognize him.

I know that's what makes most of these ambitious candidates lose out in elections cos they go through the grassroots.

What they don't understand is that politics isn't moin moin and it's not a one year journey.

You know say na who person see person know.

*I did not proof read so any blunder take it in good faith.

  10. 2019 will come and many young people will make the same mistakes we made in 2015, 2011.

We never learn in this country.

We only shout on Social media

    Keep abusing Fela Durotoye, ehn.

Go and vote your granddad's schoolmate

  11. That’s what was said about Obama and more. Was George Weah all this? These imbeciles who are too afraid to follow their own dream and face reality will be acting like they have all the answers and discouraging people up and down. Don’t worry about what Fela is doing. Worry about who you want to vote for and why. He is free to contest anytime as a Nigerian citizen. If well packaged he will win. Was MKO a politician? Did he even know what grassroots was? It’s all about your message and it’s delivery

    1. You are clouded by misinformation. MKO was a technocrat and a politician. He was known all over the country.

Despite the fact that George weah conquered the world of football, it took him 8-10 years before he finally became president of Liberia.

Fela should have it at the back of his mind he has to try again in 2023 and 2027 and 2013. Grassroot work starts now. Ask George Weah how he achieved it. More action, less talk

  12. Fela is a good candidate for the Presidential seat but not yet.

The Northeners must complete their 8years bid before anything only 4 years as about to be wrapped by Buhari, besides there are emerging forces from the Middle belt and North West.

Preferably a young guy whose running mate will come from the South is the gameplan because the Youth won't vote any old man.

    1. The North does not have to complete anything. They will vote for a candidate with sense. Leaders need to talk to Imams and community leaders and show them a true plan. INEC needs to get the child voting under control and you will see they will vote for him. Baba Buhari will win with them because he appeals to them and no one else cares to consider them as anything other than almajiri

  16. Nigerians deserve the leaders we have. You want him to start from somewhere and be under leaders who are corrupt and will crush any attempts he makes at sense. Do you all know that if we have sensible people running for president, more sensible people will run for Governorship and the House etc. In Nigeria, if the top is right all others MUST follow. Lagos even with all its issues is only seeing some change but true change will happen when the top is right. I pity Nigerians, if this man can convince the North...he will win. He should not worry about SE, SS. We do not even vote. SW might get behind him if their bad belle will not finish them. The North even with sentiment are more advanced in politics. Make sense to them and they will follow you.
