Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong'o will star as mother and daughter in TriStar Pictures's The Woman King, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is based on "true events that took place in the Kingdom of Dahomey, one of the most powerful states of Africa in the 18th and 19th centuries."

Davis will play the general of the Amazons, an all-female military unit, who fought with her daughter (Nyong'o) against the French and neighboring tribes who had enslaved their people and attempted to destroy their world.

“The Woman King is the powerful true story of an extraordinary mother-daughter relationship,” said TriStar president Hannah Minghella in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “And there’s no one more extraordinary than Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o to bring them to life.”

No date is set yet for the start of the project.

  1. I like the combo. Two powerful black actresses

  2. Wow. Wow. Wow. I can’t wait. I really can’t. Whoooooooooooooooooo

  3. This is good. More of this good-news for our black people who are real and love their skin colour...

  4. I Guess telling the black people story is the new wave in Hollywood 😞😞😞

  5. Lupita is getting stronger this year I am happy for her! Viola Davis is a great actress too

  6. It's gonna be another block buster.

Loved Lupita in the Queen of Katwe. Chic is overtly NATURELLE.

Watched the film with the whole family and we loved it.
    Oh I love little Richard.

    Viola Davis

  7. I'm indifferent about lupita, but I'll watch anything with Davis in it, after finally watching HTGAWM

  8. Was it not some time ago on this same blog that BVs were saying she hasn't done anything after 12 years a slave. And that her shine was fading away because of her 'silence'..... smh

Goes to show you that you just need to stick to your plan and do you. People will always talk when they don't understand.
