Chronicle Of Blog Visitor Narrative....

You read some things and get so upset you dont know what to do.....That's how i feel right now!

STAND ALONE NARRATIVE
WRONG DIAGNOSIS

This is the lady with the spotting. Like I said that day, I resolved to go to the hospital the next day. "unfortunately ", I started bleeding a little at night, I was devastated and so was my hubby. We drove to the hospital and after paying the emergency fee of 10000(only God knew what that was), we saw the doctor, though the bleeding have stopped by then. After scanning, he said my baby no longer have a promising fetal breath. They will admit me and by the next day he will check again.

I cried all through the night, praying and crying at the same time.

The next day, he checked again and told me my baby is not breathing. They will discharge me and by Wednesday that is today I should come for evacuation. They gave me two injections and one drug tablet. The bills were outrageous but I could care less, all I wanted was the safety of my child.I called my mom and she said I shouldn't touch that baby, that she saw me deliver in her dream. I was confused.Sunday came and I clutched to my rosary beads, I prayed and prayed.

On Monday I decided to use a well known lab around the area to be sure. I wasn't also confident with the machine the doctor used.On getting there, the woman in charge scanned me after I told her my ordeal. She was furious when she heard evacuation, saying that she had a case like that not long ago. Immediately the Doppler got to my stomach, I started seeing my baby moving although not that active, I could even see it breathing. I burst into tears, I couldn't contain my joy.

The woman said the spotting would stop that there is a water-like something under my uterus that it will stop. I should be on bed rest.

My mom was so furious about the doctor, my hubby wanted to even go and confront him. I wanted to go back there today to give him a chance to clear his name, let me see if this was a miracle or he wanted to try the "demons " in me. My mum wouldn't hear of it. Everyone I told said I shouldn't near that hospital again. Now I need a hospital I would go and they can have a thorough check out on me and know if that thing is something to worry about.

I have never been so confused in my life. Being a first time mum is the most difficult time for a woman. You hear all different types of advice not knowing the one to take, yet you know that any decision you make can make or mar you. My mom said I should stay put for now and be on bed rest. Everyone is saying the same but I don't know...

Please I want to hear from moms in the house too, please if you stay around Festac Lagos, you can also recommend a good hospital for me, I am new to the area .Funny enough the one I went is termed one of the best private hospital around.

Sorry for the long epistle please I am just an expectant mum who wants the best for her child. My baby is nine weeks(two months and a week).

Thank you Stella and bvs.

*I couldnt breathe reading this, was too upset..like WTF!

  1. God be with you, fellow preggo. No need to go back to that hospital and fight, God has already fought for you. Please stay on bedrest and take care of yourself. After delivery, you can write to the medical board with your complaint and all evidence such as your receipts, pictures of the evacuation pills and everything else that can prove your case.

    2. How far long are you? If your baby has formed well then you should be on bed rest, your leg should be elevated, it's like your cervic is open and if you keeping doing much it may bleed out with the water in your womb, just be on bed rest.
God would save us from all these ritualistic called doctors o, you will carry your baby my dear hold on to God, keep saying your rosery too, God would finish what he has started

    3. This is similar to Adanna Ohakims pregnancy story. You can watch her vlog on that to be encouraged. She was actually pregnant with twins and didnt know. Went to one of the best gynea's when she was in nigeria and was told she had lost the baby. And needed to do an evacuation or allow the miscarriage to progress naturally. She lost one baby but has a healthy one on the way with lots of bed rest. You will be just fine.

    4. Why are we always like this? If she didn't make trouble with the hospital how then will other preggo's life be saved from the hands of that quack doctor. The one that nearly killed my wife i made sure that he and the nurses that handled that delivery where all sacked. Avoidable mistakes and they were pleading with me to accept a N2million damage payment. I refused accepting such cos i was grateful to God for saving her from the hands of those killer but the only way they could settle me is to sack those guys.

    1. I thought so too. Please is it possible to send your husband to find out exactly what they injected into you and what you swallowed. During pregnancy, NEVER EVER take any drug of injection without a second opinion and even Google. The first 12 weeks of pregnancy is not a time to accept treatments you didn't cross check.

I had bleeding too during my first trimester and with plenty bed rest, it stopped and we are ok. Try not to get out of bed except to use the toilet. What you need now is BED REST not another hospital or doctor.

If you can stay in bed for about 1month then you can start talking of going to another hospital. Trust me, just getting out of bed can trigger another bleeding. I was walking on egg shells the whole time I was on bed rest. Any attempt to carry my toddler to move a little brought back the bleeding. Please send your husband to find out exactly what that doctor gave you. Run it by another doctor and take it up from there.
Good luck. You will be fine

    5. When it comes to Obstetrics matter, I would rather say be ‘Doctor specific ‘ instead of hospital as a whole.

Even in teaching hospitals, people who work there will ‘choose’ their consultant. Why? Because it’s based on specialty and experience

Poster, from what you are saying and the age of your pregnancy, the doctor probably thought it’s blighted ovum based on the technical result from the scan. Here comes experience, an experienced Ob/Gyn will say ‘REPEAT SCAN IN TWO WEEKS’ while giving you bed rest.

Foetal heartbeat is tricky to read when it is below 12 weeks and pregnancies are prone to spontaneous abortions within that time frame.

This happened to me when I had my first pregnancy. Doc said it wasn’t viable, we should abort. But hubby being a medical doctor himself said we should wait two weeks and repeat. Though we went 3 days later to another place with a more experienced radiologist, heartbeat was Seen but very faint. We repeated another week .and hen another before it was confirmed viable.

These things happen. Early pregnancy can be unpredictable. Not really doctors fault at this stage. The only part I blame him is he should have called for a repeat scan for confirmation!

      Phew!! What an epistle!!

  3. Private hospitals are the worst, you just opened an old wound for me. Lost my sister and her baby to negligence of private hospital she was using.
I'd ask that you find a general hospital or specialist. Most private hospitals employ doctors who aren't really qualified or experienced.
Happy for you that things didn't go left before it was averted. You can try Emel hospital, on 21 road or go to Navy town hospital biko. All the best.
Thing is general hospitals would take your time because of crowd and all that but they have better doctors.

  8. I worked for about a decade in Nigerian hospitals and I always advise folks to go to a government owned teaching hospital. Not because they are up to the standard I know as a doctor but the sharp practices and money grabbing tendencies of the private hospital is well contained there. Also, you have the opportunity of second opinions whenever a case is equivocal or confusing.

When I worked in a private hospital , I saw the other side of the love of money. Where I was directed by the MD to use a cheap drug that will not cure the patient of an infection e.g. urinary tract infection so that when they inflate the bills, the money will come to them since the patient will buy the drug (still 10x the regular cost) from their "pharmacy". Note that when the uti is not cured, the patient can have complications ranging from kidney failure, to infertility, sepsis/meningitis etc. It put me at variance with them because I will follow my training and prescribe the medications which the test indicates will cure the patients.

I know of women who were cut open in private hospitals for CS when it was simply normal delivery. Of course they will give them injections that will slow the labor.

Should I tell you about the one that used and re-used urinary catheter, syringes, iv canulas, used unsterilized equipment for circumcision and other surgeries etc.

Please folks, government specialist and teaching hospitals may waste your time but it is better, I worked in both.

This last scan you did is biased cos u told them what u are looking for . Please go to another scan center, do a scan, don't tell them your reason. You can't hear a baby breathe, but you should hear d heart beat doing kpum kpum. If u don't hear that heart beat, please dear, go for evacuation make u no kill. yaself. If u do hear it, don't tell them anything, just carry the result and Go and make trouble at that hospital.big trouble like suing unless they refund your emergency and admission fee. 1. The most sensible comment. Government teaching hospitals are just as bad. Doctors will waste your time and divert you to their own practices so you can pay them and it’s usually higher than what you’ll pay at the teaching hospitals. If you’re pregnant, I suggest you do your research and go to the BEST hospital around you. Might cost a lot, but if you had 200 million at your disposal with Complications from carelessness from both you and quack doctors , 200 million may not bring that child back. Now if you’ve gone through these things, you better go to a very good hospital or Mecure for proper tests and imaging to be sure that baby is fine.

      Delete
    2. Thank you jare. I don’t even see any misdiagnosis here. It is tricky to hear heart rate this early and it does not always show. The doctor just interpreted and read the scan and advices accordingly

It’s like Nigerians are always just waiting to crucify doctors and remember all their actual and perceived mistakes!

Poster pls calm down. All the agitation is not good for you. I understand it’s first pregnancy and you’re understandably confused and the people around you are not helping matters.

  15. I don't even know what to say. The medical field in this country is just a mess.
So sorry for your ordeal dear. That is why it is good to seek 1st, 2nd and 3rd opinion in this country. But then how many people can afford it.
I have been told I have typhoid twice in my HMO work hospital, I would be placed on injections and drugs. It was just becoming too rampant, I decided not to take their drugs and go to my own family hospital. They will also carry out their own test and say nothing is wrong, I just need rest and they give me multi-vitamins. Probably work stress. I will do that and become okay.
I have also been giving a wrong test result before in a supposed good hospital in VI. Thank God my name was called at a point the doctor addressed me. I now said No that isn't me. Whose file and test result was given to you. They had given me an Ngozi's result and that Ngozi was severely anemic and needed to see a specialist. They had even given me drugs for the supposed anemia and I just had malaria.
Madam for now just register in another hospital. But keep all your records, test reports, bills etc. If you can even get smthn written stating they want to do evacuation. Tell them you need the note for work. Add it with your evidence.
After you have delivered and healed, start legal proceedings or better still report them to Lagos state.
You need your rest so the spotting cant stop, don't stress yourself for now. Just compile all evidence ready for later.

  17. I'm not sure i read the first post. But let me tell you my experience. I have had 3 pregnancies and two live births. In all my pregnancy, i always bleed. More than the supposed spotting some women are suppose to have. With my second, i bled for 3 weeks straight!. Some doctors termed it"threatened abortion" . (Now this is Canada) And some said it was implantation bleeding and it would go away. And yes, it was implantation bleeding just that i bleed more than the medical text book says. It takes experience to know that. My first two kids are normal and healthy but the last one passed unfortunately. So my dear. dont' touch that child. if i were you i'd stay home and visit a good hospital when i am at least 4 months gone. In the meantime, please help yourself with a good pre-natal vitamin with folic acid.

    1. I agree. She should wait until she's at least 4 months gone

    2. Implantation bleeding occurs at the very early stage, most times before it appears positive on the test strip. It's when the fertilised egg has moved from Fallopian and down to the uterus, where it tries to attach itself to the wall of the uterus (implantation).

  26. Since that hospital mentioned coming back for evacuation, they may have given you those injections and tablet to induce or hasten evacuation.

First of all, send someone to find out exactly what was given to you and press for the truth. If possible, find a way your folder from there can be looked at.

Secondly, take this from an experienced mum, bed rest while bleeding is VERY VERY IMPORTANT. Don't joke with it. Observe the bed rest for about a month unless you have any more complications and need to return to a hospital.

After your bed rest, go for another scan at a reputable centre and get yourself to a GENERAL hospital for antenatal. I used one and had to register at a private hospital during my 3rd trimester because someone advised me to. I ran out of there after one visit and returned to the general hospital.

  27. I am sure that the hospital is EMel Hospital.
I had my first child in Parklande Hospital successfully via planned CS. Very good clinic. Infact rated 4.5 on a scale of 5.
When i was about to got pregnant for my second child, I registered with Outreach children's hospital as I was informed that Emel and Outreach were the two best hospitals. Their ante-natal services were horrible and I gave myself brain by registering with Emel when I was to put to bed. The experience in Emel was also horrible. Infact, I appealed to the doctor to discharge me after two days, to enable me take proper care of myself at home (Planned CS delivery again). I did not get any attention from the nurses, as they were too preoccupied with so much responsibilities.

It could be that the doctor was so tired that he didnt pay special attention to the baby's breathing.

Let me rephase that I planned to deliver normal with epidural, but EMel did a scan and informed me that it will not be possible as my baby weighed 4kig. When she arrived, she weighed 2.9kg. Was later informed that scan does not give the actual weight.

Please try Parklande hospital and get quality medical services that you deserve.

I lost a baby at 20weeks due to cervical incompetence..my 2nd pregnancy i registered in two hospitals Kings college and st.thomas...i did not trust the Drs totally thats what a loss can do to you.

Normal D-dimer test they do for pregnant women suspected of having blood clot, 98% of Nigeria doctors don't know what it is. My sister have been to different hospitals asking for this test, doctors and nurese there were just staring at her like what the heck is she talking about. I just can't with Naija doctors. My husband is a doctor in Nigeria, he too didn't know it when I mentioned it to him. Thank God he's coming out of that shit hole country. He's coming over here to have a proper medical training, make money and go home and help save lives. I pity sick people in that country. My father's death taught me a big lesson. Those doctors don't know jack. I'm pissed. Even those that claim to be senior cardiologists move around with grey hain on big heads with empty brains.

My friend's husband, a renowned heart surgeon, who normally travels to Nigeria to help carry out heart surgeries, said to me " listen, those doctors commit murders in that country". He was dazed and broken when he saw what those doctors prescribe to their patients......Murder!

No time to proof read. I'm pissed at all medical (murder) schools in that country. The lecturers know nadan, students know nadan. Don't let me start with nurses.

    1. Please it’s not all Nigerian doctors. My mum who was pregnant in her 40s started bleeding when she was in her first trimester, i mean serious bleeding, not clotting. She was rushed to Nigerian hospital where they saved that child, (my brother), she spent her entire pregnancy in the hospital on bed rest and she delivered that healthy baby safely via CS. Royan hospital in Ojodu Berger, Lagos did a great job, and of course God kept her and the baby safe.

I, on the other hand live in the US and I had a traumatic birth experience in Ben Taub hospital, Houston. If I start recounting what some of the mean nurses put me through and how I had to be rushed in for an emergency C section after being in labor for 36 hours because they infected my amniotic sac and I started shivering like someone in Antarctica, you’ll understand that there are incompetent doctors and nurses in every country.

Poster, please remain in bed rest and elevate your leg, that’s what my mum did for the first few weeks after she started bleeding.

  39. You need to take up a case with the hospital NOW.
What did they inject you with????
God forbid, if your child comes out deformed and you go back to the hospital they will wash their hands off you and even boldly deny seeing you.
You need solid evidence should anything wrong.
Oyibo say prevention and preparation is a digging of a crater in between halves.

You need to register your complaint NOW

This is not acne or dandruff you are dealing with.

  43. From your lab results, is your cervix closed. . With the spring and all, you should be on bed rest; Asin do not cook, do any form of cleaning, sex. Just lie on the bed, eat, sleep, pray and watch t.v..

There was this lady that lost 9 pregnancies, my Dr. sutured her cervix and admitted her in the hospital from her 14th week, his reason being a Nigerian woman can't be home without doing any chores.

Your pregnancy is high risk, you should be on bed rest till you are delivered..

  44. Madam you are experiencing what they call foetus implantation. The foetus at this stage is attaching itself to the walls of your uterus. Why don't you Google and read more about this information.

  45. My sister had her baby at less than 30 weeks, she and her baby were very well taken care of at Mother and Child. I would recommend that you register there, they have qualified doctors.

  46. Dear poster...YOu donot need to worry so much.I spotted through out my first trimester..from week 1,I had to go to the hospital for checkup and they said it was threatened abortion and all I needed is absolute and complete bed rest and I took to their advice n that’s what I did during my first trimester,.the bleeding stopped on it’s own .Just rest properly and don’t stress your self too much, your baby would surely be fine.

  47. Poster i'll advice you to go to that hospital and confront the doctor. what nonsense! Well i just hope the injections he gave you doesn't have effect on you and your baby. That's the more reason i think you should confront him and tell that if anything happens to your baby he will be held responsible. May God be with you dearie and i pray you deliver safely IJN

  48. Madam anonymous... Ur husband must be very daft to not knw wat D-dimer is. See her generalizing her claim, rubbish. There are good doctors in Nigeria, and dey are doing well irrespective of the ill-equipped nature of the hospitals. They av learnt to improvise almost everything. Because a quack killed ur dad n ur huband doesn't knw D-diner doesnt mean others don't. PS: its mostly indicated in cases of pulmonary embolism.

  49. please let God lead you.I had a very nasty experience at that Govt hospital(maternal and child center) at 1st gate, festac.
I lost my first child due to the negligence of the gynaes.

Most of the gynaes that attend to you on ante natal days do not know jack. They are inexperienced.
They have 2 experienced ones, a woman and a man. Both of them are consultants.

They only allow you to see the two of them if you are well connected, as in , paddy paddy things.

I saw hell. Ha !!!! i have not recovered form the trauma.

All those saying the hospital is well equipped, i shake my head...

I had my baby thru c section and i can tell you there is nothing in their theatre. Just the bed, and that light the use to carry out surgery.

My baby was admitted in the NICU. He was put inside a non functioning incubator cos they didn't have enough for the babies. I didn't know all these cos I was still in pain and couldn't get up to see my new born.

it was after my husband got back from travelling that he discoverd all these but it was too late

long story short, follow your mind
