Abia State Gov Ikpeazu Alleges Returning Officer Prof Oti Was ''Unfair'' To Other Political Parties

The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has claimed that the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at the just-concluded March 18 governorship election, Professor Nnenna Oti, was “unfair” to political parties that participated in the poll.

Ikpeazu stated this during an interview with Channels TV on Monday night.
According to him, he conducted background checks on Oti and sent a complaint to INEC before the election.

On March 22, Oti, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, announced Alex Otti of the Labour Party as the winner.

The declared results by the returning officer saw Otti poll 175,467 votes to defeat Okey Ahiwe and Enyinnaya Nwafor, who garnered 88,529 and 28,972 votes, respectively.
Six days later, Oti revealed to her staff and students that she was threatened and pressured during the elections, but she stood her ground.

In reaction to Oti’s comment, Ikpeazu said: “If I have met her, if I have spoken to her, let her come to the public and declare so. I’m shocked that she is making a big noise out of nothing.

“At some point, when I saw the coincidence in name and traced a little bit of her background, I complained to INEC that this lady was not going to be fair, but they assured me that they had profiled her.
“I am still shocked,” Ikpeazu added.

  3. Nnenaya Oti is another proof when you pray, don't always pray for male children only.

A one Nnenaya Oti is better than a 1000 Mamood.

    1. How is Oti better? Oti announced the results that were collected at the ward and local government levels. The Inec chairman did exactly the same thing. The Inec chairman sent people to verify the local government results that was in dispute in one local government. So what did Oti do to deserve praises and Inec chairman condemnation.

    2. Good question Alexander,

When there was a dispute in the Obingwa local government area where the incumbent government come from, obviously cos the results there were inflated to favor PDP. When Nnenaya Oti saw what had happened in that local government, she refused to accept it or announe it. Reason is cos, votes can't be higher than accreditation in the BVAS.

She had to call Abuja for the result to be reviewed.

On the other hand, when party agents raised alarm on the same issue to Yakubu Mahmud about the over inflated figures in Ekiti collation that didn't tally with the accreditation, what did he do?

Did he pause for a review? The electoral acts permits a review in such circumstance but Mahmud never followed its rules and guidelines.

So do you get the difference now?

Ask another question. I have free time at my disposal.

    3. Oh please Alexander, you can't be this naive. While Madam Oti insisted that manipulations of voting and voting results would not be done under her watch, INEC chairman did 'eyes left' to all the malpractices. Who gave the order to his staff not to have results uploaded real time to INEC server? He watched without doing nothing while results were changed. He should have stood his ground and insisted that the right must be done but he didn't.

    4. Prof Mahmoud advised the clowns playing to the gallery that there was no over voting in Ekiti and it should be obvious to those deceived into thinking that LP garnered game-changing numbers in Ekiti that the complaints have to be tabled at the state level and reviewed there since by law, all the national rec can do is collate and announce results.

By now, we should have been receiving post cards from the plan Bs announced by desperate undemocratic people before the elections. It's quite comical that they are delaying their trips to Utopia on account of "zoo" politics.

  5. The two surnames are not related.
Prof. Nnena is from Ebonyi state while Alex, the governor elect is from Abia.

Prof. Nnena is a no nonsense woman from my experience with her. I would describe her as someone who's radical in what she stands for as well as 'proud'.
