Mrs Josephine Ugwu, the cleaner who found and returned N12 million at the Lagos Int'l airport will not forget Monday, the 9th day of March in a hurry, because it was a day that a Lagos- based Humanitarian organization,Voice of Change Network Int'l, decided to put a smile on her face.

While some commended her for her honesty in returning the said amount considering the fact that she was earning a paltry sum of #7800 in a month, others have taken to calling her some derogatory names, condemning her for her seeming "stupidity" in not taking the money for herself.
However,a Non-Denominational,Non-Religious,and Non-Governmental Organization,Voice of Change Network, decided to practically demonstrate their support and approval of the woman's act of honesty and integrity by visiting her at her work station, and presenting a cash gift to her .
Speaking at the occasion, the International Coordinator of the organization,Mr Gregory Azemobor said "Our mission as an organization is to encourage people all over the world to do good.Anyone who follows his/her conscience and does good to his brother and sister is a celebrity.Josephine is a celebrity. In fact, she is the true celebrity, because she has taught the world that it's possible to maintain one's integrity in a corrupt, greedy, and selfish world. Our mission is to raise a generation of men and women who will propagate, promote and model positive character and virtue in all areas of life.
We are here to create a relationship with her, because we want to know her better, where she lives, her children,so we could empower them, and assist them materially and otherwise. She is a true heroine. We are looking for more people like this who will stand for what is right"
Speaking further, Mr Azemobor said " what we are doing today is to appreciate, celebrate and reward good conduct and we sincerely hope that this gesture will inspire others to toe the line of moral uprightness. we need people like Mrs Ugwu in position of authority who will not selfishly enrich themselves at the detriment of the welfare of others"
He also called on public spirited individual to do likewise in appreciating a moral icon in the person of Mrs Josephine Ugwu
Mrs Ugwu , who is an employee of PATOVILKI industrial cleaning company, on the 23rd of January 2015, while going about her normal cleaning activities at the passenger lounge of the airport had found a package containing some dollars and other foreign currencies totalling 12 million Naira.
Knowing fully well that the money was forgotten or misplaced by a passenger, she, according to the orientation she was given when she got the job about three years ago, took the money to the security, who informed the airport authorities.Ironically, the owner of the money surfaced some minutes later, and after ensuring the money was complete, just took a long look at Mrs Ugwu, and walked away, without a word of appreciation. What a world!
Mrs Ugwu |
Responding to the superlative show of love and goodwill,Mrs Ugwu thanked the coordinator and members of Voice of Change for the cash gift, and words of encouragement. She also reiterated her decision and determination to live right and to continue in doing good.
This woman is really brave and i am so proud of her..I have found money before but at the point at which I found it,i didnt have a dime on me so i felt it was God's gift finding it,that was wrong of me...It is not easy giving back money like this...I really respect what she did.
She deserved it, a very honest lady. Keep it up
ReplyDeleteI thought they said it was 5.4million, this Nigeria sef ehn, someone might have shared it and let go of just that!

Give or take 6 months this woman will become history- she would be forgetten
ReplyDeleteNo body will even remember her name.
She should have taken the money.
Oh well! Her lost not mine.
So what if her name is forgotten? Is that a reason why she should steal?! It's amazing how people can't understand her decision to be honest. Goes to show who they really are. Shame
DeleteI don't understand why some ladies are so desperate. Guys are not even shouting they'll steal the money. *sigh* if you eventually take the money for yourself and you're later apprehended and sent to jail, will that better your life? Smh for desperate girls
DeleteShe's very honest...I doubt if I will do same if I were to be in her shoes, madam u try jare..
ReplyDeleteI just hope the cash gift given her, isn't peanut, because odiro kwa easy oo
How much was giving to her as a reward?
ReplyDeleteThey won't reveal the amount given her
DeleteBut the woman took a risk though. Imagine if the person she told about the money decides to kill her just so that he could take the money away? Imagine if the other point of contacts before the owner came, decide to get rid of her? Cos that was a huge sum o. Thank God evil thoughts didn't follow that money.
Meanwhile the owner is an ungrateful idiot. Haba, looked at her and walked away without a word of appreciation? See why some people do not like to do good... Rubbish
Sisi Eko" you just took the word outa my mouth, some people are just plain in grates, someone sees such large amount of your money and all you did was look and walk away? He would be run over a cliff... *longhiss.. am just happy she was rewarded, if not it would prompt her not to do good again.
Delete*ticktock
How much was giving to her as a reward?
ReplyDeleteSo how much was she given as cash prize? I hope its something substantial sha......
ReplyDeleteI can bet it's not. If it's substantial, they would have put a figure.
DeleteThat’s life for us all! a good name surpasses all the money in the world.
ReplyDeleteI commend the great woman earnestly, because e no easy to do what she did.......
I must commend her too she really tried.....but according to the news I heard the woman did not know it was actually money that was in the bag if not.....
ReplyDeleteI find the group pictures strange.
ReplyDeleteNot even one smile was cracked in both
On a more serious note
What this lady needs is a good job
Like in the Presidency
Dr Abati, pls take this woman to the President
She needs to be honoured.
Exactly!
DeleteA better job with financial security would have been truly rewarding, that way people would be 'gingered' to act same if found in similar circumstance
Dem no even talk how much be the cash prize kwa.
Na only God fit truly repay her rare act of honesty!
I swear. It pays to be Honest. I also read its not the first time of seeing huge Money and returning back. Oboi we need to upgrade her to become one of the staffs of EFCC or ICPC

ReplyDeleteTell me why people would return lost monies with animals like this in existence.
Does the idiot know what 'thank you' means to some people?
I really commend this woman for her honesty.
3 times?
If the money meant something to the idiotic owner, he wouldn't have forgotten it.
So............ LOL.
Lol..apparently, it was change to the owner, reason fr the stupid ingratitude...more reason why she shd have bailed with the money bcos it wouldn't hv affected the owner

Unless of course, he is preparing something really big to surprise her with....
hmmmn.......I really think that money was a blessing in disguise for her seriously
ReplyDeleteIts so obvious the owner didn't need it, not even a word of appreciation, besides that kind money no be under the box dem dey keep am as per safekeeping things....just wondering
She is such a brave woman and i respect her for that, now some people are criticizing her for returning the money but if she had taken it and maybe get caught in the process,it is still the same people that will condemn her for being a criminal.
ReplyDeleteHonesty pays, she might not get her reward now but it will definitely come.

But come to think of it,who forgets a bag with 50k in it talkless 12m?a bag that should be tightly clung to d neck d whole time.......
It takes Godly conscience to return that huge amount of money.
ReplyDeletePls let the govt give her a good job. It's not easy what she did. I can't even do it.
